I finally saw Iron Man yesterday, and it is truly awesome as everyone says.

They are getting better and better with these superhero movies. happy

Generally.

Spider-Man 3 wasn't great and Rise of the Silver Surfer was OK but easy to beat the first movie. Hulk wasn't great either.

But yeah, most superhero movies of recent years have been pretty good.

I have yet to see Iron Man but will try to next week if time allows (I may just try and make some time though).
But the new The Dark Knight trailer is enough to satisfy me..... now that's proper comic book adaption film making guys and girls wink

I have seen Speed Racer however and really enjoyed it grin
It is pretty much a live action anime, and even though it's billed as a "kid's Film", it really isn't. The plot and structure is far to sophisticated for anyone under the age of 18, and in essence the film is about evil corporations and corruption in sport, aka Ferrari in Formula 1. The first segment is beautifully done it almost brought a tear to my eye. If you like anime, formula one, or just ballsy film making, you'll like it. If you don't like any of that, then you might get a headache tongue
Easily the best thing the Wachowski have done since the first Matrix film (because let's face it, Matrix 2 & 3 were dire and their involvement with V for Vendetta and Invasion did little to help those films).

Not long now for Indy 4. Biggest film of year?!?! I think it will be.

V for Vendetta was a very good film, but I agree their input probably didn't alter it very much/at all from what it would've been were they not involved.

Speed Racer does look good though.

Indy IV will hopefully be good. They seem to have played with Indy being old and tried to be humorous with it, which is good. Don't want it to be silly like Rocky Balboa was.
I am still concerned about the stuff with aliens, it could work as long as they don't actually appear in the movie.

My GM at work informs me that Sex & the City has been outselling Indy 3-1. At least that's at our Odeon.
It seems to me that the bad reviews it's been getting are affecting people.

Sadly Sex & the City is also outselling Indy at our cinema too.... what a bloody travesty that is plain

Despite that terrible news, I can say with a degree of safety that Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal skull is good!!
It's not brilliant, it's not a masterpiece, it's not life changing, but it hoots along in great fashion and I found it to be entertaining, funny, tense at times, and good fun.
There are a few rolling_eyes moments, one just after the first reel (20 mins) that I still find very bizarre, and another involving some Capuchin Monkeys, but other then that I felt everything was there and it clicked very nicely indeed. I even liked the story, but that's because I've always had a small interest in ancient cultures links to aliens which are very apparent, hence why Gods always come from the sky wink

I loved the 50's setting, a nice crop of characters (and performances) and it all tied-up nicely. I give it the thumbs-up grin

i'm doing my best to avoid spoilers, but i want to know if they'll do another one... seems like they should, given the trend for sets of threes...

We went to see the Indie movie yesterday and I really liked it.

That, considering I can't stand looking at Harrison Ford for too long and my other unfavourite Sean Connery added to the line just put me off from giving it a whole try. I've seen excerpts from the originals but never wanted to get the whole experience.

However, my friend was mad about the new movie, so we went and it was fun. I had no expectations, like Indie-fans would have. I enjoyed the storyline for the most part, my friend agreed with the ending.

I liked the 50s setting because I love the musice but the atomic bomb testing didn't sit very well with me because I've been to Hiroshima and it just struck a painful chord. Any mention of atomic bombs sends me reeling how we can still have emotionless monsters for political leaders around the world who think creating these arms will make their agendas acceptable. Sorry for the off.

Anyway, the movie is a thumbs up from me. And my friends. And a positive mention goes to the kids behind our row in the cinema. We thought they were going to wreck havoc as kids nowadays usually do but they behaved exceptionally well. Well done.

The bomb sequence was vintage Spielberg film making, haunting but with an air of humour.

Hello Everyone,

I hope you're all keeping well. Its a Monday afternoon and as I have nothing better to do here at work, I'll rant about Indy 4. I emailed this previously to the groovy gang but wanted to share my thoughts here as well. Please only read this if you've seen the film as there will be *spoilers*.

For the last month or so prior to the film's release I was really getting into all the hype on tv, newspapers, magazines etc to the point where I was beginning to expect another Raiders of the Lost Ark. But after the premiere I began to see some negative reviews which sort of brought me back down to Earth.

We went to the Ziegfeld cinema in midtown Manhattan on 23rd May and as expected the crowd was buzzing. As the Lucasfilm logo appeared there was an enormous roar and all negative thoughts promptly disappeared from my mind. I was a kid again back in the 80s. And I thoroughly enjoyed the film from beginning to end.

I think our biggest concern was whether Harrison Ford (at his age) could maintain his dignity and charisma as the man with the hat. And I thought he did a fantastic job. I never for a minute thought that he was too old for this. The acting all round was great, especially Cate Blanchett. Ray Winstone and John Hurt also made good contributions.

The action sequences were very clear and easy to follow. Yes some of the stunts were questionable (even for Indy) but its all part of the fun. Its not meant to be a serious film.

I was really hoping the film wouldn't have any computer/CGI animation and stay true to the 80's style and format, but unfortunately that wasn't to be. I think we're just in an age now where action films simply cannot be made without some form of digital animation.

And with that in mind and just like with Star Wars, I dont think we can compare this film with the previous three. Its a separate age (both in the story and in real life) so we should treat it as a stand-alone film. But hopefully it might become a duology in the near future with an Indy 5.

My only real gripe is the whole alien theme. I understand how and why it fits into the story and the convenience of erasing all evidence at the end, but for me Indy always took a religious/biblical point of view (even Temple of Doom) and it was very odd seeing the aliens and the spaceship at the end. Another reason I suppose why this film should be treated differently to its predecessors.

I know a couple of you were also annoyed by the little gophers and monkeys (clearly a merchandising ploy), but it didn't really bother me as they were quick sequences and didn't adversely affect the film (*cough* Jar-Jar *cough*).

No real surprise with the Mutt (Shia LaBeouf) revelation and the wedding at the end. And nice to see that Indy held on to his hat - I wonder if there's a subtle message there.

Ultimately Indy 4 is a great feel-good adventure that's a lot of fun and thoroughly enjoyable. I'm pleasantly surprised by its box office success and I hope it will go on to become the biggest film of the year.

Time for a cup of tea. Until next time..
Cheers,
Ram
