Ya gotta love the medical droid 2-1-B. I elect him DB516's Star Wars character of the month. No one lists him as their favorite character except our member Ken Deep. So some attention from us is in order.
Lets give the guys. . .or droids behind the scenes some credit.
Does anyone want to share some of our favorite 2-1-B moments?
I am actively persuing a DB516 fan club dinner with the voice of 2-1-B. Wouldn't that be great to ask him all the things we ever wanted to know?
Does anyone know who did the voice of 2-1-B in Empire?

LOL, Billy. It was fun in the good old days when the SW Insider had the 2-1B column. Every issue he complained about something, mostly about him not getting enough credit.
Hmm. If it's not in the movie credits, I don't have the faintest clue where to find out who did the voice.

the closest thing I could find is the voice actor for the radio drama Russel Horton. Based on the sound of his voice I can only assume that Ben Burt Did the voice himslef and altered his voice to sound that way.
And he his a hero saved Luke twice gets no respect.

You know...come to think of it, if you listen to 2-1B and then Ben Burtt, they do kinda sound alike. Maybe it was him.

Very Interesting yes about Ben Burt.
Part of this interest came about when Triss and I listened to the radio drama last week and 2-1B had alot of lines. We were surprised.
And he mentions something interesting. He says he worked in an Imperial clinic or something. I bet there are a bunch of stories there. I wonder what he had seen?
Maybe he was even present when vader was assembled - you know the Lucas ties everything together?
Okay maybe I will try to track down Russell Horton. Anyone have any leads on him? --Billy

Well guys, I think I have had some success. I looked up an actor named Russell Horton who also did voice over work in the 70's and 80's and found his birthdate.
I then searched a people finder site using his name and birthdate and came up with only the info that he lives in IN NEW YORK ! What are the chances this could be him?
That site wanted to charge me for further info.
I then went on AOL's white poages listings for New york and searched his name and found an address and phone number.
Now I just have to decide how to approach him so he doesnt think Im a maniac. I'd mainly like to get him for a fan club dinner but I wonder if he would be interested in autograph signing at I-CON?
Hell, everybody does it now. I think 2-1B was way more important than Taun Wee.
I'll have to think about this. Any suggestions on the approach? --Billy

Pretty much the best way to do it is to play it straight. Say where you're coming from, that you're affiliated with a local LI SW club, you're interested in working with lesser known SW characters, exactly what you want to do as far as activities or I-CON, etc. Just be polite, business-like, and simple. I once asked Christina what her big secret was to snagging so many celebs, and the gist of her answer is just straightforward honesty and a professional tone. (aka, don't sound like a fanboy if you don't want to come off as one.)
The only thing you have to lose is a "no" response. Usually these actors/voice actors are very receptive to being approached, they appreciate the attention, and they're good people. Only the rude ones are truly turned off to doing anything like this.
Oh, and by the way...to this day I'm still tickled by the fact that David Allen Grier had a bunch of background roles in the SW radio dramas.

Yes that stuff goes without saying. But I may start it off with an interview to use in The Coruscant Courier to loosen him up into fandom. --Billy

It sounds like a great idea -- just go for it. The more people you approach, you can approach other Star Wars people as you gain confidence momentum, meaning more fan dinners :P
