Yeah, we all knew it was coming anyway, but SW.com has officially announced it today.

http://www.starwars.com/community/event/celebration/news20060526.html

Star Wars Celebration IV will fill the L.A. Convention Center from Thursday, May 24 to Monday, May 28, 2007. Admission to the first day of the event will be for worldwide members of the Official Star Wars Fan Club, many of whom will help plan and run special programming themselves. The convention will be open to the general public from Friday through Monday, Memorial Day.

...

Lucasfilm is also working on other Star Wars-related events in the Los Angeles area just prior to Celebration IV, "so we're expecting Southern California to become 'Destination: Star Wars' from the weekend before through Memorial Day weekend," Sansweet said.

...

One of the highlights for fans at a Star Wars convention is the chance to buy unique merchandise, including an exclusive, limited-edition action figure. Because this has led to bottlenecks and long lines in the past, the Celebration IV store will be bigger than ever, self-service, well-stocked with merchandise, have plenty of check-out lanes...and be open 24 hours a day from the opening of the show on Thursday until the close on Monday!

...

Online ordering for tickets to the event and for discounted hotel rooms is scheduled to begin late summer/early fall. There will also be information on getting around Los Angeles, traveling to and from the Convention Center, and on shuttle buses available for convention-goers who are staying in the city.

I wish us all luck trying to book a hotel through the con website--you know all 30,000+ geeks log on at exactly the same time when it opens. rolling_eyes

The good thing about it being in LA is the guest list will probably be better. And there's plenty other stuff to see there.
If your flying, its probably only $75 more in airfare than going to Indianapolis. --Billy

If anybody's a fan of JetBlue, it services the Burbank, CA airport, which is pretty close to downtown LA. grin (Although I have to admit that while JetBlue is cheap, it's not always THE cheapest...)

Okay, so I think I saw most of the club raise their hands at our last dinner together about attending C4, but truly--seriously--who IS gonna make official plans to go? I'm wondering about how things will play out this time. Would we do the group thing like MEPA did, fly out on the same plane [and call it GeekJet? laugh ] Or is DB516 less concerned with group travel? I have to say it's a lot more fun to go together.

(Yes, it's a year away, I knowwwww...I'm just curious. rolling_eyes tongue )

I cant wait for the trip. triss and I are making it a vacation and flying out a week early.
The way oit sounds, not everyone is sure if they are going at this point so any group travel will be difficult to arrange I expect. --Billy

I suspect the club members who are most financially able will definitely go. Like, I can't see Abhay not going. tongue

Yeah, I kinda figured this club wouldn't worry as much about group travel as MEPA did. I'm just curious because if we all wind up going our separate ways there I may consider grouping with other local people I know, non-fanforce related. There are online friends I have who are also in Jersey and will wind up flying out of Newark too. Same goes for lodging--I might decide to share a room with other people for a change.

Hey, as long as we wind up meeting at a bar somewhere after the con, it's all good. tongue

What's inconvenient about the LACC is that there are only 2 hotels right next to it (relatively). All the others are like a 1/2 mile, 3/4 mile, 1 mile, or driving/bus distance away. Under a mile is walkable, but the rest...eh. tired

The official con website may open up for registration/reservations next month--that's what happened for C3. So keep your eyes peeled (and be ready to wake up exactly when it opens or you'll be sorry tongue ).
