I know you guys aren't into charity stuff, but Christina (Romo) and I are kinda desperate for people to volunteer for this. If we can't generate enough interest in the next few weeks we'll have to scrap our plans, which would suck majorly. frustrated I've posted it to the Rebel Legion already, but the way things go lately, it seems most events get overlooked for some unfathomable reason. Anyway, here is my copy-pasted post:

Christina Romo of MEPA, the NYC Fanforce, has been interested for a while in having people participate in this walk-a-thon in Battery Park, so I figured this was a good place to post about it. I had a lot of fun when I did the AIDS Walk in Central Park in costume, and as always it's for a good cause. I'd really like for this to happen; I've been looking forward to it, and this is a personal cause for Chris. It'd be cool if we could get at least a dozen people for a team (or more!) though that's probably wishful thinking. We have strength in numbers. A couple of people walking in costume would just seem weird, but a big group of us would make an impact. (Chris was also thinking of designing t-shirts for anyone who'd like to walk but would prefer to be out of costume, or doesn't have a costume.)

The good thing about this is that since it's in October the weather won't be as hot.

To find out more about Walk Now New York here's the link: http://www.kintera.org/faf/home/default.asp?ievent=144270

If there's enough interest here Chris or I will go form a team and start fundraising!

So yeah, we're looking for people willing to do this walk-a-thon in costume, preferrably. We need to get this going a reasonable amount of time beforehand so we can actually raise a decent amount of money. People in stormtrooper armor would be uncomfortable walking any distance, but other costumes...heck, I walked across Central Park and I was fine. It's doable.

So, anyone interested in joining our team? praying

You know, you might get more people if you posted this in MEPA and NJO too.

I know Chris had already talked about this in December, and Will and I had told her we want to do this as well. Who else does she have that is interested?

I should be able to make it.

And dressing up ion costume shouldn't be too wierd since it is roughly a week before Haloween.

The only questions I have is if I'll be comfortable walking a long distance in my Jedi boots. I remember my feet were killing me after wearing them for a full day at ICON.

That and where will we have a place to change into our costumes and to store our stuff?

Dan, I don't think there's going to be a place for you to change and store things before starting the walk--you might be able to change if you go into a business nearby and use the restroom tongue but this is outdoors, so I doubt there'll be a place to drop stuff off at. I don't think the registration area would hold it, though you could ask. I'm trying to remember what I had to do for the AIDS Walk--I'm pretty sure I left home already in full costume.

If it's any consolation, I've ridden the LIRR and subway in costume and it hasn't killed me. tongue

Or...if you have a large pocket or two in your pants, you could put half your outfit on and carry stuff like tabbards, belt, and sash in a small plastic bag. When you get onsite, finish dressing and stuff the bag in a pocket. If you have a robe, don't wear it, just sling it over one shoulder until you get there. Then semi-undress again when we're done.

Do you have room in your boots for insoles? If you don't have any other shoes or boots you can substitute I'd advise you to do this, because yes, your feet will hurt in unreinforced boots. Or, if you can't and you're really worried about discomfort, just wear go ahead and wear sneakers. It won't be the end of the world to see a Jedi in running shoes. wink
