Hi-
My lovely Michelle spotted these and suggested I mention them in case anyone's interested in 'em:

First, Book Revue in Huntington--the best indie bookstore on LI--is holding a Star Wars day; here's the listing on their site:

Sunday, May 18th, 2pm STAR WARS Author TROY DENNING Star Wars author TROY DENNING will be speaking about and signing the final installment in the Legacy of the Force series, Legacy of the Force: Invincible. Invincible is the ninth and final book in a series whose drama and tension have been building for three years. On hand to celebrate the release of the book will be the New York Garrison of the 501st Legion, a volunteer, non-profit costuming organization acknowledged by Lucasfilm for their accuracy in costume detail and for their family-focused volunteer work. They'll be available for photographs the day of the event. Fans are encouraged to join the Garrison and dress in costume for our big Star Wars day at Book Revue!

Second, she spotted this, happening at the Metropolitain Museum of Art in NYC. If it's anything like the 'stage costumes of rock stars' fashion exhibit they did a few years ago, it should be fairly cool:

Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy May 7, 2008–September 1, 2008 Special Exhibition Galleries, 1st floor This exhibition will explore the symbolic and metaphorical associations between fashion and the superhero. Featuring movie costumes, avant-garde haute couture, and high-performance sportswear, it will reveal how the superhero serves as the ultimate metaphor for fashion and its ability to empower and transform the human body. Objects will be organized thematically around particular superheroes, whose movie costumes and superpowers will be catalysts for the discussion of key concepts of superheroism and their expression in fashion. The exhibition and its accompanying book are made possible by Giorgio Armani. Additional support is provided by Condé Nast.

and elsewhere on the web, it's written:
The Metropolitan Museum of Art has chosen "Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy" as the theme of its Spring exhibit. The museum plans to explore the superhero's iconic costume of cape, mask, and bodysuit as it has appeared in fashion. The exhibit, which is co-chaired by Giorgio Armani, George Clooney, Julia Roberts, and Vogue editor Anna Wintour, will run from May 7 to September 1, and the accompanying gala, known as the Oscars of the fashion industry, will be hosted on May 5.

Approximately 70 ensembles will be featured, from high-performance sportswear and iconic movie costumes to avant-garde couture looks spanning the decades, all inspired by Catwoman, Wonder Woman, the X-Men, and more. Designers represented include everyone from Balenciaga, Armani, and Alexander McQueen to Jeremy Scott, Pierre Cardin, and Nike.
