I think you'll find a few of us are Harry fans. I finished the book on Tuesday. It'll be a long wait for book 7, I can tell you that.

What you'd think of it?
I wish she would have kept Snape as a good guy that hated Harry though.

While it's possible that Snape is now a bad guy, I really hope JKR doesn't go that route. Snape was one of the best characters in the books precisely because he hated Harry, yet he was still a "good" guy.

I think she showed us Snape almost being forced into taking the Unbreakable Oath in the beginning was to give us some sort of justification for Snape doing what he did, like he had no choice.

I can see this coming down like the classic G.I. Joe episode "The Traitor," where Dusty ends up being a triple agent infiltrating Cobra, only all the Joes think he's a traitor, and all the Cobras think he's on their side, but only Dusty and Duke know that he's really working for the Joes, but Duke's in a coma.

I have read the book. We might want to get ahold of somone to put a spoiler tag on the Subject line. I know one person in the group who still has yet to finish, I bet there probabably are a couple more.

I think we are lead to believe Snape is a villian. We actully do not know what happened. It is probably like the rest of her JKR's books were we are led to one conconclusion and find it to be false

I have all the HP books, but haven't read the first one yet. I originally bought them for my son, but he hasn't shown alot of interest in them. I will get to them eventually, but I'm currently reading the Thrawn Trilogy and I'm also reading The Chronicles of Narnia. And then add on to that a Stephen King book or two that I haven't finished and the entire Dark Tower series. I need more hours in the day!

As for myself NO but I do have many friends who love HP. I love the films. Plus I do not have time to read HP with all my expanded Universe stuff I am reading. Maybe someday I will read all the HP books.

I can't wait for the Goblet of Fire movie to come out this November. It was my favorite book so far in the Harry Potter franchise.

I'm with you, Goblet of Fire is still my favorite.
For those who have read book 6, do you think RAB could be Sirius's brother, Regulus Black? In Order of the Phoenix, when they are cleaning out Grimmauld Place there is a reference made to a gold locket that won't open...
Melly pointed it out to me, and it would make sense. It would especially explain some things about Kreacher, if Regulus took him and had him drink the potion. Maybe it messed him up and that's why he thinks out loud...
I think on these things far too much tongue

It has been forever since I have read the Order of the Phoenix. I RAB could be Sirus's brother. It does make sense. I can't wait for book 7. Even though it will probaly be another 2 or 3 years away. Maybe they would release the book and movie around the same time.

LadyX that's a cool theory, you're probably right.
The Order of the Phoenix is still my favorite.

I read it again, Plastic I think you're right too about Snape. In the 7th book I bet we find out Dumbledore was asking Snape to kill him the Death Eaters would think he's on their side.

JediMom, The Thrawn Trilogy rocks. Which book are you on? After those read Zahn's Hand of Thrawn books, unless you're trying to read the SW books in order.

DarthBud - I've just started The Last Command. This series does rock! I wasn't sure if I'd get into the EU books or not, but I love it! I'm not sure if I'll read the Hand of Thrawn series next or the books that come in between (can't think of the name for the life of me). Zahn is so great, I just hope that the other authors don't disappoint me.

In my personal opinion, skip them all and go to the Hand of Thrawn stuff. Again, in my opinion, almost everything published in-between is total crap. I didn't like Truce at Bakura, Courtship of Princess Leia, the Jedi Academy Trilogy, Darksaber, or The Crystal Star AT ALL. It was after reading those that I was like, "Dude, this stuff isn't worth my time" and dropped reading Star Wars EU fiction. The Hand of Thrawn books are nowhere near as good as the Heir to the Empire trilogy, but they're still decent.

Then again, based on your earlier post, my pesonal suggestion would be to drop everything else on your read list and get to King's Dark Tower books. Those are just incredible.

Beware! Many of the EU books were pretty bad. I mean really bad. Zahn's stuff is good, and so is Stackpole's and Allston's.

If you absolutely have to read everything (like I do)then just be forewarned that the quality of some is really poor. If you can avoid them, I wouldn't read anything by Kevin J. Anderson, and I wouldn't read: Courtship of Princess Leia, Truce at Bakura, Crystal Star, New Rebellion, Children of the Jedi, and probably a few others I'm forgetting at the moment....

And I like the NJO books. The whole Yuuzhan Vong invasion storyline was good IMO.

I'm not a HP fan, but I do like alot of the EU stories except for those mentioned by my husband. I liked the Zahn's series Stackpoles X wing series they don't deal with the major characters but some of the side characters Wedge Antilles, and others casually mentioned in the movies. If you like thrilling stories go for the New Jedi Order it's very dark and very good It was such a let down when that series ended. Some of the prequel books are good too the book about Mace Windu Shatterpoint (you see how bad@ss he really is) The Yoda book Dark Rendevous is very good too. I'm pretty picking about what I read it has to have good writing and imagination and stay within continuity.

Thanks for the flood of information everyone! Now I just need to decide where to go from here. But, SK is calling me very strongly. I've been reading almost nothing but King for the last 18 years. Oh god, that makes me feel old!
