jedimomchandra,
I personally liked The Courtship of Princess Leia, but then again I'm a hopeless romantic! Keep in mind though, the two who didn't like it are male and therfore you might want to give it a chance since us females tend to like things that the opposite sex doesn't. Just a thought.

Hopefully steering this away from the dreadful Courtship and back towards the HP universe...
I genuinly almost started bawling at the last chapter. What saved me was that I was reading it on the throne, and I didn't need to complicate matters.
I have to believe that Snape is good. A: It's just too easy to make him bad, and Rowling never makes her characters 1-dimensional. Even the wand maker flips out in book 6. B: Snape seemed to be trying still to teach Harry while he was dueling with him. C: My hunch is that Snape is going to have to sacrifice himself to save Harry.
What I find odd aboot this book is that it provided some of the biggest laugh-out-loud moments for me in the entire series. Most notably is the stuff involving Kreacher, but even Dumbledore gets some great stuff in.
I still think 4 is tops, but 6 has to come into 2nd for me.
1. GoF-The most fun, by far, but with real weight behind it
2. HBP-An amazing mix of sorrow and humor
3. POA-Proves that the threat of something can be just as dangerous as the thing itself
4. OotP-Dark, dark, dark. Not quite to the point of depressing, but sometimes I want to throw it out the window to get rid of some of the characters in it (or reach in and strangle that freakin' toad-lady)
5. CoS-Lockhart!!!
6. SS-Not bad or weak by any stretch of the means, just not as much of a ride as the rest of them (but that's okay)

Not to step on Miller's territory here, but I'll take "Things I Didn't Need To Know" for $1000, Alex.

I agree with Matt's rankings of the books.
Goblet of Fire is my favorite. Throught the book Nothing but action pretty much.
Half-Blood Prince- The last six chapters were great. Probably the best chapters in the series.
POA- Sirus debut. Great story.
OOP- Mysterious
COS- Very good. Building blocks for the4 future
SS- THe first book. It was alittle slow moving, but there was so much stuff to introduce. I also read the book after the movie, which may have hindered the enjoyment of the book. But overall not a bad book.

Speaking of ROTS and LOTR, ROTS just passed ROTK for 7th place on the All-time US list. I am not that big of a LOTR fan. I am definately a bigger Harry Potter fan than LOTR.

My Niece recently got me to start reading the HP series as she agreed to read the series on Drizzt. I am in the middle of the 3rd book The Prizoneer of Azkabaan, and love them. I guess I always assumed it was reding for kids, but the books do outshine the movies IMO (and i like the movies).
As for reading LOTR, Samaritain, and The Hobbitt, I have forced my self to do so 4 times in my life hoping that each time I will have a better understanding of the series and enjoy it more. And though I realize Tolkien is the godfather of fantasy, and i appreciate hiw work for what it is, I find the reading boring at best. The movies rocked the house though.

I like them equally. I think HP is our modern day LOTR.

Careful where you say that, Bud. I have seen some hardcore LOTR fans throw huge flaming hissy fits over similar statements...
(Just for the record, I agree with you)

Big HP fan here, as well as LOTR. I agree with LadyXaverri. I've seen hardcore "Rings" fans wield axes and toss dwarfs at Potter heads.

I love the LOTR movies, and have read the books several times for LOTR, and I do appreciate Tolkein as being the grandfather of fantasy. Also I love the mythology of the books, but find the actual reading of them tedious work.
I am now into the middle of book 5 in the Harry Potter series, The Order of the Pheonix. Rowlings does such a great job of making you either care for or hate her characters. I know it's a fantasy book, but I can not stand that Umbridge woman at this point. I get so fired up at the injustice she and the Ministry are dishing out at this time.

I like it when a book actually makes me have an emotional response.
