FYI Wonderfest is this weekend at the Crowne Plaza Hotel (Executive West). I've never been but I think Yoda Jammies has some experience with it and has even displayed some of his model work there. Don't forget we have a trivia night that Saturday evening but I'm planning on dropping by the Con and checking it out Saturday afternoon and again on Sunday if anyone else is interested. Members of the 501st will be there but I don't know if they're going to have a table or just lurking. The Rebel Legion discussed getting a table but there wasn't enough support at this time. Might be worth scouting out/looking into to see if we can get/want a table for next year. Maybe we want to do a group model project and enter it. Something to think about.

Also artist Ken Kelly will be there. I met him at a con last year and he's really nice and I'm a big fan of his work from waaay back (covers of the Horseclans books) but he's also done some Star Wars work so I'm hoping to get some stuff signed from him.

Oh, i'm feaverishly (spelling?) putting the final touches on my Y-wing!

Speaking of WF, I realy need a HUGE favor. HUGE FAVOR!

I'm working from 8-1 that Saterday, and the contest entries have to be in by noon on saterday. I emailed the WF peeps, they will let me fill out the forms on Friday, and have a proxy enter the models in my place that Saterday.

Just need a friend to lend a helping hand. Any takers?

Please? Your my only hope!

Jammies

Thanks Mika, I will name my first born after you.

Wonderfest is fun! This year's theme is Aliens I think, so if you like that your in for a treat. Also, weird and cool things happen in the rooms aside from the main hall. For example, 2 years ago they had all the models made for the movie 5-14-77 (the date ANH was opened). 5-14-77 (and I may have that name wrong) is sorta like Fanboys. The movie, which I guess is still looking for a distributor, shows a kid in high school in the seventies who sees Star Wars, and then goes to Hollywood to try to make it big (like the director). In the movie, he hitches a ride to ILM. So, to pull the movie off, the director had fans re-create all the old ANH models in the aproriate scale. The model builders and the director and actors were there, just hanging out in a room showing off the HUGE Star Destroyer and the trailer. Those are the kind of Wonderfest Memories I love.

Also, actors and movie artists are there too. So, get your autographs! Last year, Dave from 2001 was there (freakishly unaged), as was a very, very, very drunk Starbuck.

Okay, autograph story from Uncle Jammies... So, I never get star struck, I just don't care about celebs. Unless they are Sci-Fi celebs. I'm standing in line to meet Robert Picardo-- the Dr from Star Trek Voyager (can I say Star Trek in here?), and in my head I'm thinkin up what I want to say. Stuff like, "My mother and I both love your work in Star Trek, however I also love your self-derected short films. Your work on The Beach was so wonderfully disturbing, what made you think of that charictor?" but as I get closer and closer to Robert Picardo, my nerves get more and more unsettled, and I can feel my IQ drop in direct corelation to my proxemity to the Trek actor. So, when I did get to him I think I managed, "My momma like you on show."

"How nice for your mother," he replies sardonicly JUST LIKE THE EMH.

The real hit of Wonderfest is the models. It is the largest model contest for Sci fi. Hundreds of ILMers, hollywood model builders, and fans like me that put plastic together afterwork will have our stuff on display. Also, we like complements. Well, I do at least (as I never win anything).

There is also a dealers room. It wouldn't be a con without a dealers room. Most of it will be models and props, but some vintage toys will be on sale too, as well as Japanese and UK toys.

Last year the 501st had a table, and were out in force. I think they are doing the same this year-- they didnt realy have much of one in the past.

So, that's WF. Hope to see you there!

Since I can't make it, can you post some pictures with your Y Wing?

Would love to see it!

Thanks!

My Y-wing is pretty much patched up (hey, they are the workhorses of the Rebellion right? So what if there is some "battle damage").

I hate to sound trite, but, I'd really like to win something this year (my 6th time in the contest). Sure, I do it for me, and it is neat to see little kids go WOW over something I made but...

I'm a geeky guy who lives alone with little painted pieces of plastic, and I want to be an award winning geeky guy who lives alone with little painted pieces of plastic happy

And thanks to Mika, for helping me put these kits into the show (I will be working on Saterday). So, thanks again mate!

Check out the Juggernought Clone "turbo-tank." Not only is it a great model, but the guy (or gal) built it from scratch-- a very talented skill!

Check out the Rebublic Star Destroyer that "floats" as well.

First time at WonderFest and I have to say there was a lot of good stuff. I even found a couple of resin props to spend some money on. The models were great although I'm jealous of the talent it takes to put those together. The 501st was there in force although they didn't pimp out their table. Not only did they have the usual stormtroopers and such, they also had some guys with an Iron Man and Batman costume and they had a whole bunch of guys dressed as Starship Troopers. Talking with them was very valuable. Not only do they know someone with Hollywood contacts (those Starship Trooper costumes are actually from the films) but there is someone locally (in Clarksville) who has the set up to make stormtrooper armor (in white OR black). They offered to help me get my kit together so it doesn't fall apart on me in 5 minutes and I'm hoping if I totally screw something up I can get replacement parts from them. I mentioned maybe a future "field trip" for our group to see how the set up works and they seemed okay with that. I dropped some of our cards off at the free flyers table (but I didn't think of it until today) but I think getting a table next year is something we should consider.

Here are some pics

Oh...and it turns out we have a WonderFest award winner in our group but I'll let Jammies make that announcement himself applause

So we have a potential local contact for storm trooper armor? Most excellent! Probably not in my budget in the near future, but I wonder how much it costs.

I am all for having a table next year. Hope I can go next time happy
