For all those interested in the FORCE and the SITH, I highly recommend this series. Omen is book number 2 of the Fate of the Jedi series, and I think Christie Golden did an excellent job for her first Star Wars novel. The storyline so far for this series has been really intriguing and there has been a nice continuity between the two books.

Not really spoilery, but highlight to read just in case:

In this book, like the first, Luke and Ben go visit another Force-sensitive society, this time the very secretive and mysterious Aing-Tii. I have to say, that it has been really fascinating learning about these different groups, for many reasons, and the Aing-Tii don’t disappoint. A must read for any Star Wars fan. I can’t wait to read about where Luke and Ben go next.

The other very cool part of this book was reading about the Sith civilization on Kesh, cut off completely from the rest of the galaxy for over millennia. A very intriguing society, all the way down to the Sith artists. As I was reading about them at first, I was thinking, ‘Sith aren’t so bad... how nice,’ but eventually I changed my tune, and was like, ‘Oh... yeah... they’re Sith tongue .’ (BTW … I’m predicting another bad girl love interest for the Skywalkers. As Luke had Mara, Ben will have Vestara, which is almost too obvious... I mean, come on, their names even rhyme... Ves-TARA... MARA. silly If it doesn’t happen, I’ll be happily impressed with how the authors fooled me.)
Ship (a.k.a. the Sith Meditation Sphere), I’m still trying to figure out. I almost see him with the same personality as R2-D2, definitely helpful but with a naughty side and his own agenda. You want to see yourself as being his master because he’s not necessarily a being, he’s a ship, but you’re really not.

Back on Coruscant, the Force illness becomes even more of a mystery. I am very intrigued to find out what is going on. Lots of insane things happen. I won’t spoil any more than that.

Lastly, I want to give Christie Golden kudos for changing my opinion about certain characters. She does a lot of first person for a variety of characters, and you really get to see and understand their side of things. It benefits not only the reader, but gives more suspense to the overall storyline. Golden also did great with her research and really knowing this universe... she even brought back Ben’s slang word for “cool”... “lubed,” which I always thought was a ridiculous word tongue , but little things like that make a difference to Star Wars fanatics like me. Way to go, Christie Golden! applause

Finished. I liked it. It was a fast/light read though. I liked the Han/Leia segments much better this time. Liked learning more about other Force traditions again and liked peeking in on the Sith.

Fate of the Jedi is actually just the name of the 9 book series. Omen is book #2 of the series.
Hmmmm... Fate of the Jedi... Return of the Jedi... I wonder if this series might have some very epic outcomes to it since the title is reminiscent of the final movie.
DarthZannah, I also think you’d be very interested in the Lost Tribe of the Sith series which ties into these books. It is in PDF form right now, and can only be read on the computer. The stories are not very long, but if reading off a computer screen isn’t for you, I’d be glad to lend you the series once I get it in print.

Agreed. Agreed.
Yeah, it was a quick read. Luckily, book 3 comes out within the next month, and supposedly Christie Golden has written an extra short story to go along with Omen, which should be in the hyperspace packets (I’m keeping my fingers crossed that mine is in the mail).

I’m hoping Troy Denning will wow us with a lengthy novel next month because it is going to be a long wait until the fourth book comes out in February, which is understandable, due to Allston’s health difficulties.
