Note: This is an entry for the Jedi Purge Challenge.
warning: contains very little Jedi, no Sith, no bounty hunters, no action, no - well, you get the drift.
Fifteen Hundred Credits
They were offering 1,500 credits for any information leading to the arrest of a Jedi.
Iddu Car'yot stood in front of City Hall, trying to gather the courage to go in. He had nothing to fear, he told himself over and over again. He would go in, inform the officials that he had seen a Jedi, and collect his reward. The transaction would take thirty minutes at the most.
Of course, to do that he would have to tell them where he had seen the Jedi. And that would mean having to explain what he was doing in the Saddar District, where every other man worked for the local crimelord.
Iddu Car'yot was not a criminal. He was merely a temporarily unemployed worker in need of funds for his youngest daughter's medical treatments. The fact that he was trying to borrow those necessary credits from someone of ill repute did not make him a criminal. Besides, Laxan had turned him down as a bad investment, as the banks already had.
On his way back, cursing the struggling economy and his place in it, Iddu had ran into a tall man and was knocked down. The stranger had offered him a hand - a rarity in that district - and when he did, Iddu had caught a glimpse of an odd cylinder attached to his belt.
It had taken him until he was almost home to realize the object had been a lightsaber.
He had no idea what the Jedi was doing there, but Iddu did not want to know. All he knew was that if he turned the Jedi in, he would receive fifteen hundred credits and his daughter would be well again.
Iddu Car'yot had no love for the Jedi. When he was twenty-five, they had taken his firstborn son away from him. Some years later, his request to see his child was granted, but the polite boy he met was a stranger to his eyes. Even later, Iddu had been thrilled to learn that his son lacked the skills or the discipline to become a Jedi Knight and was leaving their Order. However, his hopes of reclaiming him were shattered when he heard that he was joining the AgriCorps, to become a farmer - a soil-grubbing farmer, of all things! - on a newly colonized world Iddu had never heard of.
How Iddu had raged over this injustice! First they took his son away from him, then they declared him unworthy and cast him away!
And now - now they were offering 1,500 credits for information about the Jedi, and the fates had dropped one in Iddu's lap. All he had to do to claim those credits was go in and tell them what he had seen.
The only thing that kept him from doing so was the nagging fear that they would mistake him for a criminal, and keep him for further questioning.
His daughter's face flashed before his eyes, then that of his eldest son. Not the quiet boy he'd spent ten uneasy minutes with in the Jedi Temple or the young man who'd sent a holocard to his biological parents before being exiled into the middle of nowhere, but the toddler he had been when they took him away from him, all those years ago.
Iddu straightened his back and took a deep breath before stepping forward.
He had already lost one child to the Jedi. He would not lose another.

Thank you, and please forgive me for taking forever to reply.
Basically, I wanted to point out that it wasn't just evil people who took part in the purge. It's probably been done before (and better, I suspect), but this vignette was my two cents on the matter.

Great viggie! I've always thought the Jedi's way of dealing with children and their parents was wrong, and you brought that out nicely.

From his viewpoint, that "someone else's child" has already been lost to the Jedi. A lame rationalization, I know, but that's the way he would see it. Thanks for reading!

In fact, this vignette started out as Judas's tale (the man's name is a dead giveaway, no?). The title was supposed to be a reference to the fifteen silver coins Judas got, only when I checked I found it was thirty. After that the vig took on a life of its own.
