Hi! I'm new to the forum and I'm wondering if any one out there knows where I can get a good, quality Obi-Wan Kenobi costume. I've seen the ones that are mass produced but don't really like them very much. is there anyone in the Maryland area (or outside of the area) that can put one together?

For a good quality costume, you have to make one yourself. if you want a lead on some good tutorials, let me know. as far as I know, no one makes jedi garments. Stormtroopers and what not are a different story. I know some that make those.

Yes please! If you could give me whatever info you have on making the costume I would be very grateful! Thanks!

Well for the boots do a search for Jediboots, they are easy to modify but may be costly depending on what you are looking for, some companies will costom make the boots but your looking at about a 3 to 6 month wait[unless in stock] and the price start's at arout 300 bucks, Pants are kaki with no pleats, the tabbards obi are just made of any light brown or kaki color fabric, the tunics are made from patterns that you can buy from wal-mart[ it cost ya about 5 bucks]
The patterns are well worth it cause it has the pattern for the robe as well, The belt can be custom made[$$$$$$$] or you can make it yourself out of what we call nerfskin, pleather in other words, any good fabric store will even have the snaps for the belt and the small buckle as well.

And since the fabric that was used in the movie can't be found[ what has been found is real close] alot of costumers believe the fabric was made only for obi's outfit for the films.

Any other questions hit me up at oncedead1@yahoo.com
[ to much stuff to type here]
I hope this helps

As for the saber look at the prop fourms and ask around to see if someone is looking to get rid of a saber, If your looking for the Ep3-4 saber, Parksabers has a coll kit for it but the Ep1-2 you should find on a fourm

they call them Hiroka and are not licensed but are damn near close enough. boots and belts are pretty close too. No robes, but simplicity 5840 has a so-so robe patern ( http://www.simplicity.com/index.cfm?page=thumbnail.cfm&cat=4&type=19&sec=0&id=59&StartRow=11 )I'm pretty sure that McCalls has one too, but I couldn't find it on the website. If I still have the pattern for mine, I'd be happy to make one for you. I use a heavy wool weave, it's more costly but it's worth it. Or I could make one from PolarFleece or even felt. wool would run you about $150, PolarFleece about $75 and the felt one I would do for $25 but given that it's felt it's not the most quality of fabric. Just PM me if interested.

Dear Friends in the Force:
I agree with WuLongTi, the 5840 is the best. I actually bought it and made the cape last year with a little help from my mom when it came to use the sewing machine to finish the garment. but I used a heavy-weight, gray color cloth and I cut it myself. In addition, I hand sew the whole thing together for last halloween. It was awesome. It had the correct lenght (almost touching the ground but not dragging). As for inside garments (shirt and pants) the 5840 has some very close designs. But, for mine I used the Luke Skywalker ROTJ approach: long sleeve (and turtleneck) shirt, black sewater pants (for the moment, since I'm trying to find utility-military style pants) and a black cloth belt with no design. I used steel 8" high boots which give the impression of military/futuristic boots. Now the awesome step would be to find a jumpsuit/flightsuit but in black color. I've seen blue, olive green (US armed forces pilot), orange (close to the one used by the ESB Alliance Hoth pilots) and some tan color. I'm still in the search, but for know I think that the best approach would be to do your own. That would give the garment a touch of personality.

Now for the sabers... hmmm, hard to tell it is. You see you can be able to built your own out of different parts. There's a website that tells you step by step how to make it with metal parts and it would look great. In my case (eventhough I'm still taking my time to build the metal one), I found that sometimes the dollar stores have the best items to use. Not so long ago I found a toy sword in the dollar store that had a built in light. After looking at it for a while I noticed that the handle itself look good enough to be the handle of a light saber. I bought and I opened it. It was a simple wiring structure. So, I painted it with black and silver. I went through my old stuff and found an old flashlight and I remove the reflective metal looking part from the top. You see, this part by itself looks very close to the top of a lightsaber. Using rubber and some tape/glue I was able to keep the part inside of the handle. Then I included a lightbulb at the end. After closing it and putting a battery inside now a have what looks like a lightsaber that also works as a flashlight. It still needs some fixes here and there... but it works.

The second I did was easier than that and I even included a "blade" made out of wood (old broom), which i painted light green. You might actually laugh about this but I built the handle from a plastic plunger I found in Wal-Mart. happy I went to the bathroom section in the store one day and they had this black and plastic plunger that uses a handle and a cup in two separate pieces. The handle itself has a decent shape and even has a little square bump on the side (factory made) that painted looks like the activation switch/button. I took the time and painted it metallic and glossy black in some parts. Then, using the alphabetic drawings from the Star Wars Monopoly Trilogy Edition I inscripted my nickname in it. I went to my garage and grabbed an old broom which its handle was made of wood. I painted it light green and measured the diameter to compare it against the diameter of the plastic handle. I used hard rubber and electric tape around the lower part to keep it in place inside the plastic handle. I went through my bolts/nails/screws bin and I found a small metal hook that is used for wood. I made a little hole in the bottom part of the plastic handle and drove the hook until it went inside of the wood. The purpose? Now I have a blade fixed in place and when I don't want to use the blade I can use the hook with a snap-ring/snapling to hang it around my belt.

Sorry for the long message... but you see the only limit to build your own stuff is your imagination. So, go ahead and try some... and let us know how it go.

Regards.
God Bless.
