Hello all! Drew Wilkin here. I've got a job up in Worcester and will be moving there soon. Just wanted to say hello.
My wife is also on here: PinkYaddle. My 2 year old son isn't on here, but we've already started indoctrinating him into the SW universe - we watch our favorite movies with himat times.
Oh, and Han shot first.

Chris Wilkins, meet Andrew Christopher Wilkin. The world keeps getting smaller and smaller! BTW, did you know that the name Wilkin is derived from "William's Kin" and therefore we're related to William the Conqueror? We're royalty, dude!

Your name is Andrew Christopher Wilkin , wow it is really a small world.
My full name is Christopher Lee Wilkins. I think I was named after the great Count Dooku himself, well that's what I was told when I was younger but he more known for Dracula back then.
I did know that the name Wilkin is derived from "William's Kin" but did not know about being related to William the Conqueror.
We have a member of Foxboro who lives in Worcester, DarthIC2 and like chewykingwookie said he lives close by in Shrewsbury.
I am sure they can help you out whatever information you need to know about the area.
Good luck with the moving and hope to meet with you soon.
Chris

I will definitely help out. I know what it is like to be new to the area. I am originally from Ohio and moved here via Minnesota 5 yrs ago. I am finally getting used to the East Coast or shall I say New England. lol I still miss the midwest and that way of life, but I do call this home now. Uneven though I would much rather be in Hawaii or some where else warm. lol

Well, now that you mention it, we're trying to figure out how to deal with housing. I'm going to be up there for a month without Christa and Zachary until we sell our house down here. Dealing with short-term rentals is enough to give anyone a headache. Any suggestions would be quite welcome.
Chris, you're scaring me now... My wife's name is Christa Lee Malik Wilkin. Maybe we're related in some strange way!
Mr. Wookie, I'm looking forward to meeting your little one. Having younglings is an adventure by itself! I have been a stay-at-home-dad since Zachary was born in late 2004.

Drew is definitely in the area. I spoke with him last night (New Year's Eve) after his trip up from the D.C. area. Must have been a long trip with a rental truck. My move out here from MN was long as hell in a rental truck so I know the feeling. I will be trying to meet up with him today. From what I understand he will be officially up here in mid Jan and should be ready for some meets.
Welcome Drew and I hope you enjoy New England.

Finally welcome to New England, Drew.
I hope everything is going smoothly, I know how much of a hassle moving can be just locally.
Hope to hear from you soon and keep us updated.
Anything you need to know just ask.

I'm a little late here but welcome and I look forward to seeing you this Saturday. May daughter turned 2 in December. Great age until they don't get their way.
Worcester is getting better but can be a rough place. Looks worse than it really is though.

I am definitely here folks. I'm knee deep in Series 7 testing (like the bar exam for the brokerage industry) and my brain is mush right now. I'm looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow and having a relaxing visit.
I'm currently in Worcester in Quinsig Village. Victoria Ave, for those who know the area. It's a beautiful old grand dame of a house we're renting. It'd be a fantastic investment for someone who can afford the time and energy to fix her up.
I'm walking to work every day about 3 miles. Even today when there was snow on the ground. All the hills are great exercise!

HEY! That was MY line you stole, you buttnut!
Oh, hi everyone. This is DarthIshyZ's wife, Christa.
We've made an offer on a house and only now do I begin to understand... how stressful this is. ARGH! Look for me up there late February or early March, heck maybe even mid-February, depending on how the move goes.
Anyone else ever moved interstate? How the heck do you coordinate all this crapola? Do we move before or after closing and what do we do between closings and where is our two-year-old supposed to sleep in a "broom clean" house?
See ya!
Christa

Depends on how big your 2 year-old is. If he's small enough, you could probably get him one of those large dog carriers and just toss a couple of blankets in with him.
Congrats on the impending closing and move into the new home. Generally from my experience (on my 3rd home now) you can't do anything with your new dwelling, other than a final walk through (usually with your realtor present) until AFTER the closing. Actually moving in, even if it's only some of your stuff, would require you to work out some negotiation with the current owner. On top of that, there's also all sorts of insurance issues as well. The last thing the current owner wants is for you to get hurt on the property or for there to be property damage while they still own it.
I've never had to do an interstate move although the wife and I have discussed it seriously over the past couple of years. The cost of living here is going through the roof and the winters (except this one so far) are just brutal.
Good luck to the whole family with the purchase/closing/move.
