I'm a Californian. Always will be. My family and very close group of friends are there. Out here I have Nicole and Madison. My mom and brother are here but it is not the same as having my entire rest of the family out there.

I have two high school buddies here. One I see once or twice a year and the other I see during NASCAR racing season. What else do I have? I go to work all night, come home and sleep for up to five hours if I am lucky and take care of Madison while Nicole is at work. When she is off I sacrifice sleep to see them. Do what you have to do. I have no other outlet to enjoy myself. Not saying my family is not enough but we all need some outside enjoyment. Call me sad but seeing the group once a month was that outlet. Something I could look forward too. Nicole and I have only the one vehicle and lets face it, we're 'poor' so I am somewhat limited to certain meets as of late. The last thing on my mind when seeing or looking forward to seeing the group is being anything 'serious'. I have too much other 'serious' matters in life to deal with. FIS should not be one added on.

The problem I see here is that some want to get serious while others say lets talk about matters but not be serious.

We should NEVER schedule a meet just to go over 'serious' matters, NEVER.

Each meet should be as they always have but with the preconceived idea that at some point during said meet a con, shirts, site etc will be chatted about.

No one has stepped up during a meet to talk about any of these things past the point to 'okay this is where we are going and that is how it is'. With Chris stepping down I am more than happy to be that guy to get the ball rolling but only if it follows under what our meets have always been about. Having a fun time together. Bottom line for me folks.

Chris stepping down is a bummer. When I think of the FIS, he is the first person I think of. This is his baby and at no point from day did he ever get 'serious'. He kept this thing going because he LOVES Star Wars and what a FanForce SHOULD be about. I feel the same as he did/does from day one.

I also urge all of you to let Chris know that he is still the man as far as CR goes. We can all chip in to get things done around here without having to remove his title/colors.

Chris, take all the time you ever need but I and all here would be just fine keeping the seat warm for you.

Bravo, my friend.

I'm still very new here, but that post was so poignant... you pointed out what's wrong with SO many SW groups... everyone wants to take them too seriously, when the entire fandom should be about having FUN.

Good morning, Happy Monday and all that jazz...

I completely concur with what was written here. I know that most here have been trying to get me to a meet for several months now and I am excited to meet all of you but, as was said, when I go out to gather with friends, it should be on a fun basis. Yeah, we have things to talk about but, usually there is no conflict within this group. I think all will be well.

I really like what you said about Chris' title and colors. Let him keep them.... we'll just step up and keep things rolling along until he is ready to return.

We can get business done and not be formal. I agree with what you said to the letter. Getting business done and formality are usually at odds as a matter of fact. How much experience do I have? The DC FanForce is it. And that one basically had three rules: 1. meet once a month, 2. someone has to mention slash at some point, 3. everyone gets thrown out at 10PM, but promptly let back in. Where #3 came from, I don't know... never understood it. But looking at #2, you can see how seriously they took things. Sure, they keep minutes (I think the boards require it), but everything else was open for interpretation. Was there a gavel? Heck no! A couple of times, we met at a restaurant over tapas and margaritas. Keep it casual and have fun with it. Get together with like-minded friends, not adversaries on topics.
