Not only did the Red Sox blank the Oakland A's 5-0 yesterday, but Kevin Youkilis finally broke the record errorless game streak @ first base with his 194th consecutive game without an error at the position. The record was previously held by Dodgers great Steve Garvey. Congrats Youk! grin

Surprise! The Bruins made the playoffs last night with a win over the Ottawa Senators. They play their final game of the regular season tonight against the Buffalo Sabres with their playoff seeding still undetermined...they could be as high as the #5 seed in the Eastern Conference.

This could be a big night for the Celtics, as well, as they travel to Charlotte to play the Bobcats. Not only can the Celtics clinch home court advantage throughout the NBA playoffs with a win, they can also break the record for the biggest single-season turnaround in league history with at least a 37 win improvement over last season. They will have to do so, however, without captain Paul Pierce, whose wife gave birth yesterday.

Call me superstitious but, I can't say I would have had Bill Buckner throw out the 1st pitch at Opening Day at Fenway this afternoon.

The rings are beautiful!

Beckett was announced to the theme from Indiana Jones

And, they are up 2-0 in the bottom of the 4th!

Go Sox!

They also played the medal ceremony music from ANH during the ring ceremony. I believe Coco got his ring when that was being played.

I forgot to mention that the Celtics clinched home court throughout the playoffs and the record turnaround on Saturday night while resting the "Big Three" of Pierce, Garnett, and Ray Allen, adding to their 20-point win total in the process. Nice accomplishment for the bench, which has played very well for much of the season. grin

Actually, it was all of the outfielders (Crisp, Manny, Drew and Ellsbury) who received their rings to the 'The Throne Room/End Title' music from ANH. According to the Red Sox it was chosen "because of its regality and splendor reflecting the myriad personalities of the Red Sox' spectacular outfield last season."

And the Red Sox are once again raffling off championship rings to lucky fans, this time making 9 customized rings available, and a 10th winner receiving one of the limited Red Sox-edition Volvos. Details @ http://www.redsoxfoundation.org

One other thought...given the reception he got from the Fenway faithful prior to throwing out the first pitch, I think "Red Sox Nation" forgives Bill Buckner for '86. happy

I'm so freaking tired of the media and the 'all is forgiven' angle they're taking with Buckner. The Red Sox fans 'forgave' him already. He got a standing ovation during the 1987 home opener and then again during the 1990 home opener when he returned to the Red Sox before retiring a month or so later.

There was nothing left to be 'forgiven' for yesterday. It was just a chance to say 'thank you' for a guy who played his guts out for the Red Sox on 2 bum legs.

IMO, the only person from the 1986 team who should be looking for 'forgiveness' is the Manager John McNamara who put Buckner out there in the 10th inning of game 6 instead of defensive replacement Dave Stapleton.

Peep this!

http://www.nypost.com/seven/04112008/news/regionalnews/highjinx_hits_yankees_106016.htm

Apparently, some Red Sox fan on a concrete crew working on the Yankees' new ballpark buried a Red Sox t-shirt in the concrete in the area that will become the visiting team's locker room. laugh

In the "Frozen Four", BC used a four-goal first period onslaught, and Nathan Gerbe tallied a hat trick with one assist in total, to send the Eagles to a 6-0 blowout of North Dakota, who they had lost to in last year's "Frozen Four." BC will play Notre Dame for the national title tomorrow.

So much I've let slip in the past couple of days...the Sox taking 2 of 3 @ Fenway against the Yankees, David Ortiz finally getting out of an 0/17 last night, and the Bruins finally getting off the schneid against the Canadiens the other night @ the Garden. As for the latter, the Bruins better hope they can rally to win the series in 6, because they're not winning a Game 7 in Montréal. plain (And I hope I'm using the right accent.)

Thankfully most of them are on the road. I can't stand going to night home games any more. Weekday ones are the worst. I usually need to take a half day off from work day of game to get to the stadium early. If I wait until after 5:00 it will take me hours to get there and I only live about 15 miles from the stadium.

Then after the game getting out of the parking lot is a freaking disaster. If I don't leave the game early I usually don't get home until around 1:30 AM which means I'm a freaking zombie the next day at work.

I'm glad there are alot more 1:00 home games this season. I think last year there were only 3 maybe?

With a win over the New Jersey Nets at home in their last game of the regular season, the Celtics finished w/ a 66-16 record, a 42-win improvement over last season and the best record in the NBA. They will open the playoffs at the Garden on Sunday night against the Atlanta Hawks in the first game of a best-of-seven first-round series.
