I didn't watch the Bruins game last night instead I watched Sox/Yanks...should of watched that game.

I am so happy to see the Bruins putting in such effort and taking it to Montreal.

They have not all but a majority of rabid fans similar to the city of Philadelphia.

I hope the Bruins can take the rest of the games.

And that garbage owner of the Bruins doesn't allow a lot of those ticket sales to go to Montreal fans like a few games back.

And the Sox are looking better and I think "Theo" needs to stop kidding himself and figure out that Ortiz needs to sit out and get whatever is bothering him..most likely his injury taken care of.

I'm never one to defend the owner of the Bruins (Jeremy Jacobs) but I think the blame for all of those Canadiens fans has to be pointed at the season ticket holders. I saw a picture from the game and there was a group of about 30-40 Canadiens fans sitting down low to the ice, obvious season ticket seats.

I think alot of the season ticket holders figured it would be a 4-game sweep and decided to make some money off the tickets by scalping them to Canadiens fans.

The game last night was absolutely superb. Even the 1 - 0 Loss a few nights ago was a great hockey game. If the Bruins play as hard as they did last night on Saturday, Then there is one hell of a chance they can win the first round in Game 7. Everyone has almost counted out the Bruins. Even our own Governor has dissed the Bruins by only displaying a Celtics Banner. I would love to see the Bruins prove the Nay-sayers wrong.

This is a great weekend for Boston Sports. Bruins in the Playoffs, Celtics in the Playoffs, and the Sox are playing all weekend AND in first place. I dont know how it can get any better than this.... :-)

A few Boston Marathon notes...

Robert Cheruiyot (KEN, 2:07:46) is the first four-time winner of the men's race since "Boston" Billy Rogers.

Dire Tune (ETH, 2:25:25) had an epic battle down the stretch with Russia's Alevtina Biktimirova, resulting in the closest finish in the history of the women's race (2 seconds)

Seven-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong was under three hours in his Boston Marathon debut, finishing in a time of 2:50:58, good for 488th place.

The only thing that prevented Boston sports from having a perfect holiday weekend was the Bruins' 5-0 loss in Montrèal last night, which ended their season. As nobody expected the Bruins to even get to a seventh game against the Habs, lets hope they take this as something to build on for next season. grin

BTW, note the icon...ever since I found out they made the sports team logos available for the playoffs, I've wanted to have this one. wink

EDIT: Also, I hate when I'm right about one of the local teams losing. plain

Kevin Garnett today became the first Celtic player ever to be voted the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year. Garnett averaged 7.3 defensive rebounds, 1.2 blocks, and 1.4 steals per game while helping hold Celtics opponents to 90.3 points per game, the second-best figure in the league. The Denver Nuggets' Marcus Camby, a UMass product, was second in the voting.

Well it was nice to see the Bruins go as far as they did.

They played pretty tough in the playoffs.

Canadiens won't make it past the Flyers anyway.

The Celtics in the playoffs..it's been so long since I could actually say that and believe they can win it all.

And I know I am probably alone on this one here but I am happy for The Cubs great start so far.

Maybe this is their year?

I've often posted stuff like this in the "Random" thread, but, given his claim to Boston fame, the sports thread seems more appropriate for this...

The Patriots traded the #7 pick in this year's NFL Draft, acquired last year from the 49ers, to the Saints, who took DT Sedrick Ellis out of USC. The Pats also gave up their fifth-round pick this year, and received the Saints' first-round pick this year (#10 overall) as well as the Saints' third-round pick.

With the #10 pick, the Patriots finally addressed a need in the first round and selected ILB Jerod Mayo out of Tennessee. Mayo is touted as a fast player with good instincts who can rush the passer inside or outside, and can also be a cover 'backer in a cover-two scheme. The ESPN crew touted him as a smart, versatile linebacker...definitely two qualities the Patriots look for.

Boston College QB Matt Ryan went early, as expected, going to the Atlanta Falcons with the third pick overall.

Update: Another BC player, OT Gosder Cherilus, was taken by the Detroit Lions with the #17 pick overall.

The Celtics weren't supposed to need home court advantage against the Atlanta Hawks, but the home team has won every game in the first-round series so far, with Game 5 set for the Garden tomorrow night. I hope the C's can find a way to win Game 6 in Atlanta, b/c they'll need the rest before the next series after this.

They say an NBA playoff series doesn't really start until a visiting team wins a game, but in the case of this series between the Celtics and the Hawks, a road win by the C's tonight will end it, given the 25-point blowout win in Game 5 the other night at the Garden. The series between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Washington Wizards, the winner of which will play the winner of the Celtics' series, has also gone 6 games, so at least the C's potential opponents aren't catching much of a break by ending the series early. A Game 7 in either series would be on ABC Sunday afternoon, and if the C's and Cavs both win tonight, Game 1 of that series would be at the Garden on Sunday afternoon instead.

After last Sunday afternoon's 34-point blowout of the Hawks in Game 7, the Celtics are now getting ready to host LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals tonight. Let's hope they can win one on the road in this series.

The Celtics somehow survived a cold shooting night for both Paul Pierce and Ray Allen, limiting LeBron James to 2/18 shooting and getting a couple of key late buckets from Kevin Garnett to take Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the Cavs last night at the Garden. Game 2 will be played tomorrow night.

LeBron James once again had a cold shooting night, and Ray Allen woke up with 16 second-half points in a 15-point win by the Celtics that wasn't really as close as the final margin indicated. The C's now travel to Cleveland for Games 3 and 4...let's hope they can win one on the road this time. grin

Seems like this is becoming a carbon copy of the Atlanta series...the Celtics, 21 games over .500 (31-10) on the road during the regular season, still can't buy a win on the road in the playoffs. Last night was the best chance at one yet, as they were close late, but the Celtics couldn't hit open shots and the Cavs went on a run, keyed by a highlight dunk by LeBron James, to close it out. Game 5 is set for the Garden tomorrow night.
