I've just now joined this board because I've got a question. I work at the library, and we are planning a program for adults and teens to celebrate the upcoming 30th anniversary- but we want a good turn-out from people who would really enjoy it- but they won't come if they don't know about it! What's the best venue for publicizing an author signing to the Star Wars fan community? We went ahead and applied for the grant to do this- and I know 3 or 4 folks who will really be tickled, but we'd love a good turnout. Any help? Ideas?

One thing you can do is contact the TFN staff and get the details put in the news section. Once you have all of the details (time, date, place, who is appearing, etc) drop an email about it to TFN. The 'contact us' page is here. I suggest using the main contact address (listed first).
I know the book publicists sometimes put posts in the
Lit forum when SW authors are signing. If your author is a SW author, drop a PM to one of the Lit mods to see if they will let you post about it.
Just click on the mod's name in the forum header to get the screen for the PM.

So, how many mailboxes are going to be stolen by obsessed fanboys?

LAJFett is right. Author signings are big deal and if you guys get one, we can have costumed appearances by our 501st friends (stormtroopers, Darth Vader, etc.) more than likely, plus we can put in on our Myspace page and also do word of mouth, not to mention the folks here that will turn out. Do you guys know which author you're trying to get?

This May, the Memphis Public Library and Information Center, in conjunction with Random House, is sponsoring an author event to celebrate THE 30th Anniversary. This intergenerational program, targeted to teens and adults, will feature a visit by author Daniel Wallace. Mr. Wallace will speak and autograph books. We anticipate lots of time for a question and answer session, and want to invite all Star Wars fans in the area to come mark this occasion with us. Costumes are welcome!
The program will be on Monday night, May 14, 2007, from 6:30-8:00pm, in the meeting room suite of the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library, 3030 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN. The event is free, and open to the public.
I hope you will be able to help us get the word out to the Star Wars fans in the Mid-South. Many thanks to Laj-Fett and Rhondaroo for steering us to The Force Net contact folks to help our effort to promote this evening to those who would most enjoy it. I haven't heard back from them yet, but the room will accomodate at least 175 people, so we've got high hopes for a big crowd.
Thanks!!
Ms.Mary

One of these has been sighted in Nashville, on the corner of 21st ave and Wedgewood. Once the empire gets pics, I will post them here.

Has anyone found an R2 mailbox in Memphis?

Here's a link to find Artoo's nationwide. Memphis is on the list, but no location yet.

I've heard that they're all at indoor locations, so it's probably in one of the malls that have mailboxes. Knowing the Memphis Post Offices, it's in Southland Mall.
