Blah. It was so nice yesterday. Now we're heading into our three minutes of winter for the year.
Anybody else still not getting the Christmas Spirit yet?

It's another day. Another one that we work through in order to live. I'd love to be in the spirit, but it's just not happening righ now.

Another dead soldier! WE SALUTE YOU!
I have a tree, but no ornaments on it. And I really don't want to bother getting out the decorations. I usually love decorating for Christmas, but this year is just so damned blah. I guess I lost my faith in the Christmas Spirit when I realized it was on sale at Wal-Mart for $3.99 a pound.
It's almost like this:

I think Wal Mart has marked it down to 1.99 a pound...
I'm blaming Del Rey for killing off a beloved character and putting everyone (Star Wars fans that is) into a Holiday Funk...
(Somebody has to take the blame)
Anyways, Drink me a toast...It's the last day of my finals!!!
Be safe.

Tim, you act like the commercialization of Christmas is a new thing. Like me, I'll bet you weren't complaining in the 70's when the Sears Wish Book came.

You're right, Roo, I wasn't. Of course, Christmas didn't cost me anything back then either. I guess that's a big part of it- The whole "Show someone you love them by going broke" mentality that retailers are spreading. Even if you're not a religious person, the sentiments of the holiday season can have meaning that goes beyond your pocketbook.
Speaking of rampant commercialism- This bit of information is about one of my biggest pet-peaves of gift-giving: Gift cards. I hate giving gift cards because I always feel like it's a cop-out. I mean, it's like saying, "I don't know you well enough to buy you something you like, so here's this card that you can use to buy yourself something from me. And, by the way, the monetary value of our relationship is $10." I mean, I'll give someone gift cards if they ask for them, but otherwise I hate doing it. (The one exception for me: iTunes gift cards. That's the one gift card that everyone I know loves and uses, including me.) Anyway, my hatred of gift cards aside, gift cards are a 35 billion dollar industry for retailers. Here's why they love them, though: 33% of funds given in the form of gift cards are never used or redeemed. So, when you're reaching for that "Yarns and Crap" gift card for your Aunt Ida, (you know- the one who smells like Halls and arse and keeps calling you by your sibling's name), ask yourself, "Do I really want to give 'Yarns and Crap' this $10 that Aunt Ida is never going to redeem?"

I don't mind getting them, in fact with the gifts my family gives, I'd rather have them. I mean really, can't we just get together and drink? Let me buy for my family and you buy for yours or at least, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD LET US DRAW NAMES...ahem, I digress.
But if I DO get them, I'd rather have Wal-Mart or Target where I'm going to use it. Nothing like your mom giving you that laundry detergent you need for Christmas in April, when you have $20 left for the rest of the month for bills, gas and groceries.
But Border, B&N, or some specialty store like Pier 1? No, thanks.
Really, can't we just get together and drink? I'd like you much better then anyway.

AMEN to that, Roo!!!!
Why in the blue bloody hell do we have to always bring up DRAWING NAMES in my family??? My mother called me a couple weeks ago and asked if we wanted to be a part of the family name drawing for gifts. We haven't done it in 10 years. I don't know why in the heck she thinks we'd start now. I don't even want to go to my family's place for Christmas!
Getting together and eating and drinking is just fine to me.
And I'm with you- There's a whole bunch of folks I'd like better with a little booze in my system. (Or I'd at least be able to tolerate them.)

Christmas Spirit? What is this Christmas Spirit you speak of? Quick, we must exercise it!!!
Me, I never have holiday spirit, for obvious reasons. But that doesn't mean I don't get dragged along with others in their spirit-driven festiveness. XP
Which reminds me. I need to start looking for stuff for my "random present giving that has nothing to do with December 25 nu-huh."
