Stolen Chance
is a fanfic I began on a whim because I felt that more attention needed to be shed on the relationship between Jacen Solo and Tenel Ka. I had no idea exactly how well it would go over, but I'm glad that it has. The following are links to pages with posts on them; I hope they help you if you're a new reader:

Stolen Chance
_____________________________________________
Prologue
It has been six months since the Galactic Alliance successfully pushed back, and finally defeated the last of the Yuuzhan Vong forces. Supreme Overlord Shimrra had been killed when the final confrontation above Yuuzhan’tar, formerly known as Coruscant, had resulted in the destruction of the last Yuuzhan Vong worldship. Along with the death of the Supreme Overlord, the worldship had taken with it to its fiery grave, Master Shapers, High Priests, and what was remaining of the military hierarchy of the Yuuzhan Vong. After the fatal blow had been delivered, the remaining enemy forces had taken to performing acts of bull-headed suicide, resulting in the deaths of many Alliance pilots.
The battle was won, however, and the threat of the Yuuzhan Vong was ended. With their space navigation capabilities destroyed, strike teams of Jedi were sent down to Yuuzhan’tar to destroy the remaining factions of hostile Yuuzhan Vong. Under the leadership of Jacen Solo, the dhuryam, now an adult World Brain, was left alone, allowed to continue its peaceful Vongforming of Yuuzhan’tar, given instructions to maintain peace and balance through its mutual bond with Jacen. The Shamed Ones and slaves were freed, and given their freedom. Although they began slowly, under the guidance of the Jedi and with help from Alliance medical teams and refugee aids, the former slaves began taking the planet under control. Jacen visited the World Brain one final time, emphatically relating to it that it was to coexist peacefully with the new inhabitants of its planet, and that they would aid in its cause to help Yuuzhan’tar flourish. Content with the reassurance that Jacen offered it, the World Brain agreed almost happily, and began to work alongside the new race of Yuuzhan Vong, humans, and assorted aliens, to build a new home for themselves.
The former slaves who still had families to return to were taken and returned to their homes by the Alliance. After transporting sufficient supplies to those who chose to begin anew on Yuuzhan’tar, the Alliance began a routine drop route from Mon Calamari, the current headquarters of the Alliance, so that the colonists would have access to news, food, and space travel, should they require it. Satisfied that their work had been completed, the Jedi returned to Yavin 4, and began to rebuild the Jedi Order. Alongside the new awareness brought forth by Jacen Solo, Luke Skywalker began to learn and integrate the new awareness of the Force so that other Jedi would learn empathy for the Yuuzhan Vong, as the Solo brothers had.
The galaxy was finally righting itself. After what had seemed to be a lifetime of bloodshed, peace had finally arrived, and the entire galaxy embraced it as a husband would his wife. There was no longer a New Republic, no longer an Empire, no longer a Yuuzhan Vong invasion force. There was simply, the Galactic Alliance, and with it, the now embraced and celebrated Jedi Order. Although sorrow still hollowed many hearts, peace eventually came to them, and old friends reunited, trying to heal each others’ wounds, where a loved one had been ripped away. The Solo family was no exception, with the loss of their youngest son, the Jedi and hero, Anakin Solo. Tahiri Veila, who would have most likely married Anakin, was practically destroyed. With the support of the Solo family, and of the Jedi, she slowly began to regain her soul, and held the Dark Side at bay. There was, however, a light in the darkness. Ben Skywalker, now two years old, was the joy of both the Skywalker and Solo families. Luke’s son bore striking resemblance to Anakin Solo, and Anakin Skywalker, his cousin and grandfather before him. Along with this joy, Jaina Solo and Jag Fel had consummated their love, and were married, bringing the Chiss formally into the Galactic Alliance, at least a little bit. All across the galaxy, open wounds slowly healed, and new love sprung forth from the pain and hatred of the past. This brings us to our story, one of stolen love.
Jacen Solo had endured and survived the hardships of the Yuuzhan Vong, and had returned, a changed man, with new perceptions. He had fought many battles since then, rising to the position of General in the Galactic Alliance, and was considered key in the destruction of the invasion force, because of the empathy, understanding, and ruthless conviction he had gained from Vergere’s teachings. He had accomplished much, and had changed drastically, maturing from boyhood to manhood in the span of only a few years, his teenage years forcefully taken from him. There was, however, one constant in his life. One that Jacen had tried so very hard to conceal in the past years, for it hurt him so to open that part of his life again. It had been easy then, the constant battles, the apparently endless meetings with the Jedi, and the sleepless nights spent in the briefing rooms filled with the greatest military commanders from both the New Republic and the Empire. But now, it was over, and he had nothing left to do, nothing to suppress that part of his life. Taking its opportunity, it exploded across his mind. Images, thoughts, memories, dreams, childhood fantasies, things that he had thought long gone, came flitting back across his retina, causing him to slump to the ground of his private quarters in a heap, and he could only form one coherent thought through his turmoil.
Tenel Ka
The name held so much for him. She was his light, his pulse, his air, his reason for returning to the living. When he had come back, however, he had been afraid of seeing her. He was afraid that she would have slammed the doors to her heart in his face, for he was a changed man. He knew it, and didn’t try to hide it. He had found repeated excuses for not meeting her, not contacting her, but now, he could no longer deny his heart. He didn’t care what she thought of him, all he knew was that he belonged to her, heart and soul. He was hers, and nothing else mattered to him. Even if she did what he feared she would do, he would beg her, get down on his knees, grovel, cry his heart out, throw his dignity at her,
blast it, he would
die
if that’s what it took!
Slowly, he regained his composure, and made up his mind. He would go to Hapes, unannounced, and seek her out. He didn’t care if she was too busy for him, all he knew was that he needed her as he needed the air he breathed. And if he had to break through a Hapan armada to get to her, so be it, no army was great enough to stop him from claiming what was rightfully his. He stood, and packed his meager belongings. He left a hastily scribbled note on a sheet of flimsiplast and placed it on his desk. He knew that one of his family would eventually come looking, and he didn’t want them to worry. He walked out the door, and went for his personal X-Wing, to set a course for Hapes.
This is what the note read:
Mother, Father, Jaina, Uncle Luke,
Whoever finds this note, do not worry about me. I’ve been thinking a lot as of late, and I’ve discovered that I’ve been keeping half of my being locked away. I think it is time that I took a trip to reclaim what is mine. You may or may not know what I mean, but it doesn’t matter. I don’t mean to alarm you, but if I do not find what I seek, I will not return. I hope that it does not come down to that, but it is as I have said. I hope the Force guides me, as it always has. I love all of you, but you must understand, my soul yearns for the love of another. I have gone to reclaim the other half of my soul. Wish me luck.
Sincerely,
Jacen (Jasa).

Thank you, The_Hooded_One and rogue11lovesjag, at least I managed to please the two of you.
I will work on Chapter One as soon as possible, but I really should get back to my work now, as I have three projects to work on for school. I swear, the life of a teenager is hectic, hehe. At any rate, expect an update by Saturday.

Thanks, MightySpork and zeekveerko.
As some of you have asked, here's the next installment in my fanfic. I hope you like it:
_____________________________________________
Chapter One
Jacen woke from his hibernation trance minutes before dropping out from hyperspace. As he counted down the remaining seconds to his arrival in Hapan space, he used the Force to soothe his cramped muscles. Sitting in an X-Wing for extended periods in time was not his idea of relaxing. As the counter reached zero, he pulled back on the hyperdrive lever, and watched as the star lines reverted back into solitary stars. His comm. unit came alive immediately, as Hapan Space Control hailed him.
A curt voice came over the channel, “Galactic Alliance fighter, this is Hapan Space Control requesting your identification and business in the Hapes Consortium.”
Smirking at the, probably captain’s, insolence, he replied in kind, “This is General Solo of the Galactic Alliance Military Forces. I am here on business with Queen Mother Djo, and request permission to land.”
A hushed silence followed on the comm. unit, and Jacen was willing to bet his lightsaber that he had just ruffled more than a few feathers. A moment later, a reply came back, “G-General Solo! We received no warning of your arrival, forgive my informality. My superior has authorized a landing pad for you, but your request to meet with Queen Mother Djo must be handled through the palace officials. They have been notified, and will be awaiting your arrival.”
Jacen was wearing a small grin by this time, “Thank you, flight control. Standing by for landing coordinates.”
The captain’s voice came back, clear this time, “Landing coordinates are as follows: Landing Pad YXK-1248. Maintenance crews will see to returning your craft to maximum space-faring capabilities upon landing.”
“That will be satisfactory.” With that, Jacen cut off his comm. unit and fed the landing coordinates into his navicomp. Setting it on autopilot until he reached landing procedures, he continued his Jedi exercises, slowly relaxing muscles that had been coiled and stressed for far too long. As he did this, his thoughts strayed again to Tenel Ka. He dwelled on her for a few moments, recalling happy memories from a past he had thought lost, but forced himself to stop. The last thing he wanted to do was lose his control when he saw her, and do something stupid…like hugging her. He silently laughed at himself for that, because it would have been exactly what he would have done, had he not matured in the past few years. She was Queen Mother now, ruler of sixty three worlds. Even though he was a General, he was nowhere close in rank to Tenel Ka, and would treat her as such. Perhaps he would be a little more intimate if they were given privacy, but even then, he promised to show restraint. He doubted she would have liked his display of emotion, anyway. A beeping sound snapped him out of his reverie. He hovered above his designated landing pad, and wondered how he hadn’t noticed entering Hapes’ atmosphere. He pushed the thought aside, and switched back to manual control. With the ease born of thousands of takeoffs and landings during the war, he set his X-Wing down with little more than a soft thump as the repulsors deactivated themselves.
As he opened the cockpit, he saw Hapan Royal Guards spilling out of a nearby structure, flanking an elegantly dressed woman wearing a veil. Jacen mentally winced when he recognized the woman as he picked up his knapsack and leaped over the side of his fighter, landing nimbly on his feet. Straightening out his flight suit, he walked towards his arrival party as technicians rushed over to take care of his X-Wing. The guards stopped as the woman halted her footsteps, five men at each of her sides. Each of them carried the infamous Gun of Command on their right hands, and a powerful dual-barreled blaster in the other.
Jacen paid them no mind, however, and strode as close as was respectful to the veiled woman, and bowed formally. “Lady Ta’a Chume, it is an honor to be graced by your presence. I am General Solo of the Galactic Alliance.”
The veiled woman replied, “Such formality! Come now, young Jacen. Surely, your deeds precede you, be not so stiff!”
Jacen could imagine her deceptive smile behind the veil, but knew better than to fall for her sweet words. He had been warned many times, by his uncle, his father, and even Tenel Ka, that Ta’a Chume was not a woman to be taken lightly. “My Lady, it is only befitting your prestige, but I will dispense with such formalities if it will please you. As you already know, I requested an audience with Queen Mother Djo, will this be at all possible?”
At this, the woman seemed to freeze, but only a trained eye could have caught the fractional movement. She immediately relaxed, and began, “Of course, young Jacen. It would be my pleasure to invite you to the Grand Palais. I am sure that my granddaughter will be most pleased by your presence. Do you wish to return to the palace with me, or do you have more to do here? I can send for you later, if you so wish it.”
“I do, thank you Lady Ta’a Chume.” Jacen wore a superficial smile as Ta’a Chume and her guards departed, and dropped it immediately after. Whatever it was she was after, he was determined not to play into it. He was here for Tenel Ka, and for her alone. He had no time for political games and subterfuge. At the moment, however, he decided that he should send a message to his family, in case they had gotten worried even after discovering his note. He walked over to the technicians, and pulled one of them aside. “Could you tell me where I would be able transmit a Holonet message?”
The tech’s eyes seemed to bulge, but he answered, “T-t-that building over there. It has Holonet capabilities, but you’ll need authorization.” He fumbled with one of his many pockets as he said this, and produced an ID card that he gave to Jacen. “Uhh…this may seem out of line, sir, but I am very honored that you would speak to me. I wanted to be up there, you know? Fighting with the Alliance! But…I never qualified.” A sad look crossed his face, but he quickly shrugged it off.
Jacen was slightly fazed by this, but wanted to give the tech some small consolation. Flashing one of the trademark Solo lopsided grins, he said, “Trust me, being a pilot isn’t all its cut out to be. Besides, you techs are important as well, without you, half of our fighters wouldn’t take off.” Jacen swore the tech would have swelled like a balloon with pride if he had been able to, and forced himself not to laugh. “I really have to get going now, but thank you for your help, err…what’s your name?”
The tech jumped as if he’d been stung, “Stargazer, sir, Kaze Stargazer!”
“Thank you for your help, Kaze, I’ll be sure to recommend you to your superiors.” Jacen smiled as he watched the tech reluctantly return to his work, wearing a huge grin. He began to walk towards the building Kaze had pointed out, when something clicked in his mind.
‘Stargazer…he is from Tatooine!’
Jacen looked back at the young man, who had gone diligently back to his work. He stared for a moment, but passed the chance meeting off as a coincidence. Somewhere in the back of his mind, however, a voice whispered:
There is no such thing as coincidence, there is only the Force.
*****
Meanwhile, on Calamari…
*****
Jaina waited impatiently outside Jacen’s apartment door as she tried his guest alert one more time. When he didn’t come to the door, she produced the spare key Jacen had given to her if she ever needed to use his apartment. Swiping the lock, the door hissed open, and she entered. She called to him playfully, “Jaaasaaaaa? Are you home?” When no one answered, she walked into his kitchen area. Everything was cleaned and set away, no traces of food were left out. She frowned slightly, as Jacen always had some food sitting out, since he had an unstoppable appetite. She walked into his living room, and saw the same thing. The Holonet receiver was powered down, the couches seemed unused, nothing was set out on his table, and no clothes were left about. Now, she began to get slightly worried. She checked the spare room, and it was as she had left it the last time she’d stayed with her brother. She went to the refresher, paused to listen for anything, and slowly opened the door. Nothing there, either. She padded quickly to his room, and opened the door. Here, she saw a lot of things thrown about, and immediately suspected burglary. But as she opened herself to the Force, no negative emotions were left behind. All she could sense was rushed, confused emotions, and somewhere amidst the chaos, her brother’s Force signature. She wondered why he had thrown his room into such chaos, and scanned the room. Her eyes settled on a piece of flimsiplast that was left on his desk, and crossed over to it. She picked it up, and read it. Her eyes widened, and she could only utter the words. “Oh no…”
*****
Back on Hapes…
*****
Jacen sat down in front of the Holonet transponder, and produced the ID card Kaze had given him. Looking for the authorization slot, he found it, and inserted the card. The monitor blinked to life, and spat out a request: ‘RECEIVE or SEND?’ Jacen picked send, and was met with another request: ‘WHAT IS YOUR TARGET DESTINATION?’ Jacen selected Calamari from the list, and was brought to the recording screen. He bent closer to the voice recognition sensor, and clearly spoke his message, and watched it appear on the screen.
“Everyone, I’ve arrived at my destination. If you’ve read my note, please don’t worry yourselves too much over it, I just need time to sort my life out. I will tell you where I’ve gone in due time, although Jaina might already know what I’m planning to do. If you do find out, don’t come after me, please. I won’t do anything rash, I promise.
-Jacen.”
As he ended the recording, he selected the ‘PROCESS REQUEST’ option, and watched the message get sent. After he was done, he retrieved the ID card, and looked around for somewhere to put it. Not finding an appropriate return area, he simply placed it on the counter, figuring a tech would come in and take the ID card. Picking up his bag, he walked over to the reception area again. As promised, a speeder awaited him, ready to take him to the Grand Palais. He climbed in the back, and after the driver checked his identity, they were zooming towards the palace. Jacen noticed a bag near his feet, and picked it up. He opened it curiously, and found a note written on expensive Hapan paper, something so antiquated that it was considered ancient. He handled the material carefully, and read it to himself quietly.
Young Jacen,
Inside this bag, you will find formal Hapan garments. I invite you to attend a ball tonight, a celebration held in honor of my granddaughter. It will take place exactly seven hours from the time I left you, so please, be ready. You will be escorted to your quarters when you enter the palace. Feel free to use all amenities available to you, and call the servants if you are in need of anything. The ball is very formal, so do take care to…tidy yourself. The garments should fit you perfectly, so do not worry over that detail.
Ta’a Chume.
Jacen found himself smirking cynically.
‘Tidy myself, eh? I’ll show her how “tidy” I can become…’
He carefully placed the note beside himself, and looked at the garments. He pulled it out carefully, and his eyes widened. These weren’t normal formal garments, they were made of the finest silk known to the Hapes system. These garments alone could by a battleship three times over. Fearing that he would embellish the garments, he carefully placed it back inside the bag, along with the letter. He would look at it
after
he had thorough use of a refresher unit. He sensed the speeder slowing down, and looked up. Looking through the windows, he beheld one of the most spectacular feats of architecture that he had ever seen in his life. In his silent reverie, he realized that the Grand Palais rivaled the majesty of the former Imperial Center itself. His concentration was broken, however, when the driver coughed noticeably. Jacen brought himself back to reality, picked up his belongings, and stepped out of the speeder. Approaching the entrance, two guards barred his way.
The one on the left spoke up, “Identify yourself.”
“I am General Solo. I believe I have an invitation from Lady Ta’a Chume, herself.” As he said this, he lifted up the embroidered bag, and the guards stepped aside, allowing him entrance. He stepped inside, and immediately felt the sheer grandeur of the reception hall dwarfing him. Staring up, he saw an ancient mural painted across the expansive ceiling. He didn’t allow himself to think of the amount of time and meticulous patience it would have taken to accomplish such a feat, but supposed that whoever did it, left behind an eternal legacy. When he looked down, three Hapan women were approaching him from the North wing of the palace.
As they reached him, the woman standing in the middle said, “We have instructions from Lady Ta’a Chume that you are to be shown to private quarters, and are to be tended with the utmost care. I trust that you received the Lady’s gifts?” She looked meaningfully at the bag he carried, containing the letter and garments.
“Yes, I have, and I hope you will convey my sincere thanks to her.” She nodded, and the two women flanking her took each of his bags, while she extended her right arm towards the East wing.
“We will take you to your quarters. The ball begins in exactly three hours. I trust that it will be enough time for you to make yourself presentable?”
Her bluntness surprised him, but he nonetheless respected her direct attitude. “It will do nicely. You will not need to tend me while I prepare, all I ask is that you show me the way to the ball room when the time comes.” He finished his sentence as they stopped by a door. The woman approached the keypad beside the door, and punched in a series of numbers that Jacen photographically memorized with his Jedi enhanced memory, in case he needed it for later. When she was finished, a panel below the keypad slid away, to reveal a voice identifier.
She stepped away from it, and motioned for Jacen to speak into it, so that the lock would respond to his voice command. He stepped forward, and said, “Open.” The identifier made a few beeping noises, retracted, and sealed itself in the wall once more, while the door hissed open.
“Whenever you wish to enter your room, enter these numbers in the keypad,” she handed him flimsiplast with the sequence she had punched in, “and use the identifier as you have just done. We will leave you now, and as you requested, come to collect you a short time before the ball begins. I suggest you destroy the number sequence once you have it memorized, for your safety and privacy.”
She stepped away from the entrance as Jacen walked in, and he turned around. “That won’t be necessary, I memorized the sequence when you punched it in.” He allowed a smile to show when he saw her stunned expression as the door hissed shut. He crumpled the number sequence, and threw it into the disposal unit he found near the door. Picking up the bags the two aides had deposited in the room for him, he dropped them and himself onto the nearby bed, to allow his back some rest. Jedi calming exercises helped, but laying down was infinitely more comforting, especially after sitting upright for such a long period of time. As he rested, a thought suddenly hit him.
‘Those were Hapan
women
that came for me, not men.’
Now that he thought about it, it confused him to no ends, as the Hapans were a matriarchal society, with men being treated as slaves and concubines. He had no idea why Ta’a Chume had sent women to act as aides, but he knew that she had hidden intents behind all of her actions. Out of curiosity, he checked the room for bugs.
Ten minutes later, Jacen came up clean. Now, he was very suspicious. He had never known before, a dignitary to except anyone into their homes without tapping their room, even if they knew the visitor would find and dispose of the bug. It was almost, you could say, tradition. Jacen stopped mulling over the subject, and decided to check the refresher unit. When he opened the door, his eyes widened considerably. The refresher unit was easily the size of his room, and contained a large, nearly pool sized, bath unit. Jacen walked over to it, and noticed a number of controls on the side, and grinned slightly. His mother and sister would strangle him if they found out what he was going to be bathing in tonight, it would probably be heaven for them. Glancing at the chrono, he noticed that a half hour had already gone by. Wasting no more time, Jacen allowed water to flow into the bath unit as he stripped off his flight suit and grabbed three random bottles of cleansers, from the hundreds lined up on the far side of the refresher. Sinking into the water, he allowed his muscles to relax, letting bliss claim him for a little while. Seemingly out of nowhere, he wished that Tenel Ka was in here with him. No sooner had he thought it, that a red color had crept up over his face, and it was not caused by the warm water. He
pushed
the thought out of his mind, but decided to get cleaned up as fast as possible, while making the water colder. He decided that he needed to shock himself so that he would be sober when he was done with this.
_____________________________________________
The next chapter will be better, as you will ge to see the reactions of both Jacen and Tenel Ka as they see each other for the first time in two years. Also, Ta'a Chume is, as usual, up to her old tricks, hehe.
Again, please, critique me, give me some feedback!

Except for the J/Jness in it, this is really interesting so far. (I'm a K/Jer, but I'm also a TK/Jer as well which is why I read.

looks like a great start... I haven't read any NJO but I did enjoy the parts with Tenel Ka because I liked "The Courtship of Princess Leia".

These posts are great. I can't wait for more! I have to see how Tenel Reacts to seeing Jacen. And what is that scheming lowlife Ta Chume up to now, hasn't she done enough in the past!
