Sorry, I was gone yet again. School is scary.
Oh, and sorry for the bad writing in this one...I know it sucks, but I'll try my best.
“So what squadron were you transferred from?" asked Thedar, once Aden was seated.
"I'm from Omicron." The name elicited a puzzled look around the table.
"Omicron," repeated Nenan. "I don't recognize it-"
"Oh, sorry. The name is new. The techs dicovered a flight of Skiprays in one of the ghost hangars, and squadron 'Omicron' was programmed in their flight computers. The techies were too lazy to break the encryption, so we were stuck with the name," answered Aden. There were several more moment of silence as people pondered whether or not to ask more questions.
Hefd spoke up. "Is it true that you and J-"
Nenan whacked him on the back of his horn before any more words came out of his mouth. The temporary sobriety of the Rouges' table dissapeared, and a multitude of voices erupted again.
----------------------
"Seven, Nine, I'm taking lead."
"Roger, Eight," responded Jysella. She had "coincidentally" inherited her father's call number, Rogue Nine. This had made Corran all the more proud of his daughter. Having a old friend of your father as your commader changed a lot of things. Nenan, Rogue Seven, clicked her transit button in agreement.
The three-craft triangle split and rearragned so that Thedar, Rogue Eight, flew up front. "Okay guys, we're taking the high road." He transferred energy away from his shields and to his engines. Jysella and Nenan followed suit.
"Okay, quiet everybody." Gavin's voice silenced the squad channel. "Keep in a close combat air patrol formation. We're protecting the Valiant through this particular jump, but you guys already know that. Keep close to the ship. All group leaders, take your triplets to their respective locations." Individual X-Wings vectored in groups of three to the top, sides, and to the bottom of the Star Destroyer. Hyperspace data was transmitted to each pilot's astromech droid. Through a millisecond translation of data into three dimensions, the droids calculated where the jump point would be in real space and displayed it as a hyperspace becaon on each craft's sensors.
Jysella's R9, Kegareth, also relayed this data. It commented in the process that Jysella's chair showed her body temperature unusually high. "It's fine, Keg. It's just a fever."
Keg whistled apprehensively. "I'm okay!" She couldn't help but smile at her droid's protectiveness. "You just worry about keeping this flying hydrospanner from blowing apart during the jump." The droid shrilled in fear, then calmed down as the system diagnosis showed no malfunctions and it determined Jysella's comment was a joke.
Rolling her eyes, Jysella concentrated on staying behind Thedar, managing to keep exactly 2 meters behind his X-Wing. Nenan was doing just as well, their wingtips almost touching while turning to avoid the multiple outcroppings of the turbolasers on the side of the massive capital ship. "Okay, matching speeds now, ladies." commented Thedar.
The trio slowed to the Star Destroyer's cruise, preparing to jump at the same time the
Fortitude
would. More starfighters joined them; Omicron Squadron's skiprays, and Gold and Green Squdron's A-Wings. The pilots of the A-wings kept twtiching their ships, seemingly wanting to burst forward. It was something their pilots were immensely proud of; their crafts' pure speed. They seemed not as organized as the Rogues were, but that was only natural-no one had done as much formation flying at political gatherings. Jysella almost envied them, as she would rather have something to shoot at than to just fly around in circles. Wasn't that Jedi training supposed to do something about that?
That is, only if I could only touch the Force.
At that thought, the feelings of nervousness russhed in again. She began longing for the reaasuring coolness of the Force, the calm-mindedness it often gave her. But she couldn't worry about that at such a crucial moment. She pushed the distressing issue out of her conciousness, so that only the nervousness remained.
Vice-Admiral Dey'Fa's accented voice came through the comm. "Stand by, all ships. Prepare for hyperspatial jump on my mark."
Gavin began a pilot call. "Rogues, report in."
"One, present."
"Two, here."
"Four, standing by."
"Rogue Three, I'm green."
"Rogue Five, standing by."
"Six, standing by."
"Rogue Eleven, standing by."
"Growwwllllll."
"Gotcha, Twelve."
"Rogue Eight, standing by."
"Rogue Seven, standing by."
"Three, standing by."
"Nine." Jysella acknowleged. "Standing by."
"Beginning countdown to jump. 5...4...3...2...1...engage all drives." The ships simulatmeously leapt forward, strechting towards eternity for an instant before disappearing.
In her cockpit, Jysella watched for the sudden violent alarm and reducement of starlines into visible stars that would signify a dovin basal in the way of their jump. But she was horrendously tired, for some reason, and she fell asleep, with Keg in silent vigil.
For another two hours she slept, until Keg woke her up with a short beeping sound, teeling her that there was five minutes until they reverted to realspace. She yawned as she gave her thanks, and sat straigher in her seat. There would be no violent interruptions this time. She wondered if she would ever see combat at all. In a short while, the entire convoy came back into realspace. The nav controller on the
Fortitude
immediately began to give docking orders. Jysella breathed a sigh of relief. No attack meant there was no chance to fail, or to get herself killed.
"Rogues, commece to hangar 2-11/B." There was no need to tell any of the pilots that; they knew their hangar location by heart.

RE: Jysella Horn-Through the Devastation
FIVE MORE MINUTES. NOT TOO MUCH TIME. GET READY.
Jysella hoped that they would not dragged out of hyperspace by the Vong before that. Clenching her stick tightly, she made ready to dispatch any threats if they were indeed surprised. It had happened too many times in the sims, and if it did in real life, she would be dead. That would be ther perfect ending to a bad day.
Slowly, the seconds wound down to the exit time. 10 seconds to the appointed time, Keg made a long, drawin out tone that announced they would be coming out of the jump shortly. Finally, the colors dissapeared. She was jolted forward in her seat as the starlines formed themselves back into little pinpricks of light. Several of the fleet came out after her, seemingly htting an invisible wall as they made a sudden deacceleration.
"Rogues, report again."
"Seven, I made it all right,"
"Rwooaaaaaaar."
"Rogue Four, standing by."
"Rogue Eleven, standing by."
"Rogue Nine, standing by."
"Rogue Ten, standing by."
"Rogue Five, standing by."
"Rogue Six, standing by."
"Rogue Three, standing by."
"Rogue One, standing by."
"Rogue Two, standing by."
"Wait-someone's not here." Nenan's worried voice filled the comm. "Where's Thedar?"
"Darn." Gavin swore. "Where is that kid?"
Jysella felt a sickening sensation.
Sith! Thedar gone...just like that...
"Attention all ships. We have a small starfighter entering the system at 29 kilometers. We're relaying sensor data now. Rogue Squadron, check it out. Gold Sqradron, you're backup. Greeen and Omicron groups, the flight coodinator will give you docking directions."
"You heard him." Gavin's voice was reluctant, almost mournful. "Rogues, head toward it, and split into alpha and beta group. We'll bracket it if it attacks." The fighter quadron separated into two groups half a klick apart.
Shortly after they had closed to sensor distance, Hefd spoke. "Sensors show it's an X-Wing...its transceiver is down, I can't tell who's it is. Wait...I'm getting a transmission from the ship...broacasting now..."
A voice crcked into Jysella's helmet. "You did-...genious...that easy?"
"It's him! We found him!" shouted Jysella. Wild cheers and relived sighs filled the channel.
"Gold, we won't be needing you anymore. Tell the fleet we found one of ours." Gavin smiled.
"Sir, I'm getting an analysis from his astromech...his core is heavily burnt out, and his alluvial damper is scorched. Three of his engines are damaged heavily...he's dead in the water. One of his foils is off. Looks like the damper malfunctioned, causing his core to overheat and explode."
"Thanks, Ten. Nine, pick him up, and let's head back."
"Roger." Jysella closed to .02 clicks of the battered starfighter. The snubfighter had a large gash in its aft portion, where the hyperspace core and surronding components once belonged. The burnt, tattered edges of the body shell above the gash looked like they could be snapped off with bare hands, as they probably could. There was little remaining of the core itself but the charred, black remains of electronics. One of the s-foils had been completly blown away, the armor where it had been once connected to the fuselage scorched and twisted. His R9 droid had been miraculously unharmed. Jysella sucked in her breath. Even though it had been a small expolsion, a slightly larger one would have killed him. She gently used her small docking thrusters to manuver herself above the other ship, then had Keg lower docking clamps. "Gotcha, Eight." When Thedar did not respond, she reasoned that he must have shut off all power after his transmission.
When everything was secure, Jysella pointed both ships back to the Fortitude. "Keg, tell me if anything happens to him."
SURE. HE'S SUFFERED NO INJURIES, AND ALL SIGNS ARE NORMAL.
She finally sat back and breathed. The fear had been too much for her, the possibility that Thedar could have died in a simple accident surpassed by the reality that it could have happened to herself as well. Everything was getting too dangerous, even for wartime. You weren't supposed to be killed just cruising hyperspace lanes. Although she knew beforehand about such accidents, she had always seemed so invulnerable to those things. Maybe because of the reassuring peace of the Force, but she certainly didn't have that ability, that luxury now.
The Star Destroyer now loomed in front of her, a giant fortress protecting the lives for thousands and thousands of crew.
But even a fortress isn't impregnable,
she reminded herself.

RE: Through the Devastation (Jysella Horn, NJO) Updated 8/3
Yes, sorry again for the interruption. But this time, I swear on my own grave that I will be consistent. Which isn't saying much.
The hangar was easily visible from her perspective, a brilliant gem of light on the Star Destroyer's underside. She could make out cranes and docking droids, in the light, ready to deliver maintinence on the returning starfighter. She flipped to the flight deck controller's channel. "Flight deck, Rogue Nine here...I'm carrying Rogue Eight along with me. Prepare a blast team in another hangar, so I won't kill anyone flying though a loose reactant tank's flare."
"Acknowleged, Rogue Nine. Blast teams are now securing blast perimeter and standing by. You are clear to land at docking bay 21-B4." Jysella pointed her craft per the crontroller's instructions. The voice came on her comm again after a few moments. "Standby to engage tractor beam." At once she felt a tug at her ship. She powered down her engines and waited to be drawn into the huge bay. Even though she was not inside the ship yet, she could see multiple hangars lined up around the port, starboard, and front sides of the docking bay. The armored doors of the attack hangar to the aft were closed tightly, not needed at the moment. Above the doors, the multiple windows of flight deck control kept vigil over the loading and docking processes. She was being directed away from the Rogues' normal hangar, however. "Nine to Lead, it's looks like we're spillting up," she informed Gavin.
"Roger, Nine, don't hit anything."
Finally, it was over. She was safe now, in the hands of skilled tractor beam operators, who would rather die than face Commader Darlighter becuase of a dead pilot. "Keg, is he okay?"
The droid warbled a cheerful note. "Good."
Then the tractor beam suddenly stopped. The two X-Wings slowly drifted towards the bay, but this time with nothing to guide them into a hangar. Keg screeched in momentary surprise, then relaxed again after Jysella started the boosters again. "Nine to deck...what just went wrong?" Funny...she thought she heard something strange in the distance.
When the man replied, she could hear running and shouting on the control deck. "What's wrong? A random Yuuzhan Vong attack force caught us. A big one. Sensors ae telling us we've got a worldship on out hands...rIght now power is being shunted to the forward shields."
Gavin's voice replaced him seconds later. "Rogues, just our luck. The Vong suddenly decided to show up. We've got new orders, I'm relaying them now. Guess our work isn't done. You may have a tought flight on your hands, people, get to work. Get back into your respective elemets." Worried gasps filled the channel.
That was the shortest briefing I've ever had,
Jysella realized. She couldn't believe it. Why did it have to happen right now? Why couldn't have happened at a later time, when she was ready? She panicked, as she realized Thedar was still in trouble. "Lead, I've still got Thedar. What do I do?"
The response was reluctant. "Let him go, Nine. Deck will take care of him." The squadron knew, however, that he was as good as dead if coralskippers got near him.
No! I can't...I'll be killing him!
Deep inside, she knew she had no choice. "Kegareth, release the clamps and shut off the beam. His fate is now in the hands of the tractor ops." Keg whistled an apprehensive note, then complied. "It's okay. If they can't, I'll come back for him."
"Okay, let's go! Show em' what we're made of! Up and over the Deuce." Gavin grimaced. It was their job to distract the coralskippers so that the capital ships could engage the enemy worldship. A gamble of impossible odds, but it had to be done.
Jysella put her ship into formation with Nenan's and started heading over the Star Destroyer's side. The nose of the ex-iperial ship had been obsucring her view, so she was truly unprepared for the sight of the oncoming Vong. She knew they were dead when she saw the worldship. It seemed to be in development, lacking the usual biorganic mess that usually came with Yuuzhan Vong archetectire. Even so, it was terrifying at a distance. The worldship's huge dovin basals meant that there was no escaping ther area, having the effect of an Interdictor's gravity wells.
"What the-it's huge!" exclaimed Nenan.
"Keep the comchatter down." This did not stop several more Rogues from muttering in amazement.
"Skips at 12! Engage!" A multitude of skips were heading towards them; apparently they had the same orders as they Rogues did. The first wing consisted of 24 skips. Two-to-one odds. For once, Jysella grinned.
Nothing we can't handle.
Jysella closed to 2 klicks befre activating her targeting system. "Nenan, set your lasers to intersect at long range. We're gonna try to drop 'em now. Power up your gravs as well." The reverse-polarated lasers came in handy, as it solved the problem of trying to outsmart the coralskippers' dovin basals while trying to aim at long range. With the problems ombined the task whas near impossible. But some very good pilots had done it, and that was why the coralskippers were already jinking at their distance. "Seven, get the ones on thethe right. See those two on the edge of the wing? You get top, I'll take bottom."
"Roger."
Positioning her HUD's aiming reticle drectly on the coralskipper's nose, she folled the moving target effortlessly, wtaching her targeting display for a laser lock. The green circle suddenly appeared around the coralskipper, and black lasers lanced out to greet the oncoming skips. The grav-lasers shot straight through the useless dovin basals, and hit the nose head on, congelating the yorik coral and melting their way into the ship and through the pottom of the cockpit. It slowly came to a halt and started spinning slowly, spatters of organic matter in partial orbit around the disabled ship. Its comrade beneath it fared slightly better-Nenan's lasers had ignited the volatile chemical in the skip's engines, causing it to explode in a quick, painless death for the pilot. Other black bolts filled the space between the two opposing forces. As the coralskippers drew closer, they switched red to noraml lasers. The extra power would not be needed to destroy ships at close range. "Keg, give them all desginations and transmit them to Eight's astromech." She keyed the comm. "Eight, im sending target info to you." In her HUD's enemy craft list, 17 coralskippers deginated YV-1-17 appeared. A small box appeared ahead of her, surronding a skip. "Thanks Keg." The R9 had automatically targeted the closest fighter. "Eight, bracket Vong twelve."
"On it. I'm up."
"Got it." Diving, she pulled out at the outlined coralskipper. It had begun to fire, thinking that a lone X-Wing had decided to engage it. Nenan was doing her best to avoid the plasma bursts, while firing at the coralskipper, watching none of the lasers pull through.
Hang in their, pal...
While the pilot was distracted, Jysella armed two proton torps and positioned it above the skip. The targeting bow went green as Keg tried to find a firing solution that worked, and then turned red as Keg's constant piiping became on solid tone. She let fly the torps and watched as they spiraled upward and vaporized the emeny ship in a bright flash. "Dovin basal that! On to the next one, Eight."
They had barely time to target the next ship when 24 more objects appeared on her sensors. Lead, the got more coming, from your 5."
"Rogues, you heard Nine. Break to engage." The pilots without targets turned to meet the new arrivals, while those already with targets tried to finish them off.
"I have got a few on my back. I need assitance." Tam'uk's military translating droid's prim voice seemed alien even in the enviroment it was designed to work best in.
"Coming, Twelve. Jysella, I'm going to help him."
"Coming with you, Twelve. He's got more than one. Where's Ten and Eleven?"
"Number Ten is gone," responded Ta'muk. "Number Eleven is busy."
"I didn't hear him-"
"Focus on the task at hand. Talk later." Nenan scolded.
"Roger." Jysella struggled to contain her anguish.
Cram was a good man. He's now a corpse practically before the battle stared.

RE: Through the Devastation (Jysella Horn, NJO) Updated 8/8
The coralskippers were now systematically eliminating the X-Wings one by one, dividing into 3 groups, obviously under the conrtol of a yammosk. Yuuzhan Vong technology seemed to be involved in a constant struggle against New Republic technology. Danni Quee and the rest of the the Republic Military scientists would develop a new way to counter some Vong device, only to have the Vong themselves fins a way around it Jysella preferred to leave the technogical battlefield to the technicians that specialized in the art; however, there were times where it was essential to her survival to know which component did what.
"Four skips ahead. Ten took two skips with him; let's finish the job." Jysella locked onto a skip, and fired two proton torps away. Detecting the projectiles, the skip's pilot waited until the torpedoes were near and sideslipped, letting the twin streaks by him. They slammed into their intended target-his wingmate. Jysella couldn't resist whooping in victory as the debris of the enemy ship streamed past her. Nenan's torpedoes had found their target as well, and now the skips were facing superior odds. Another timed laser blast from Tam'uk, who had slowed to 1/3 throttle and caused the skip to overshoot him, blew arapt the rear of the yet another organic craft. "Eight, bracket the remaining one!" Complying, Nenan slipped to the right while Jysella took an attack vector from the left. Tam'uk concentrated on drawing the target's fire.
The concentrated attack ended abruptly as Keg found a targeting solution to the proton torpedoes. Jysella switched to the the torps and let them go, wtaching intently as they veered straight into the coralskipper. The pilot probably had no time even to be surprised as his craft was expolded into its basic components.
"That was for Cram. Let's tackle the next bunch, Nine. Good hunting, Twelve."
Tam'uk growled his thanks and rushed to aid his wingmate, Hefd. Jysella redicted her snubfighter into what was now a heated furball between the capital ships. "Eight, stick to me. We're in for a rough ride."
"Got it." Nenan flew to a position beside Jysella's port wing, matching her every move. Her X-Wing's sensors showed that Gavin and the others had taken care of the enemy wing. "Leader, this is Nine. We mopped up the remainder of the first wing, and am proceeding to assist. Group Four is on its way as well. But we've lost Cram."
"Think about it later, Nine. Good job, but we've definitley got more work to do. New orders from command, we're going to try for the basals on the worldship." Two and three flight will provide cover for one and four group as they launch torps toward the dovin basals, hopefully disabling them.
"Lead, we can't get too close. The gravity will tear us to shreds, if not the plasma." Jysella nodded. There was truth in Aden's comment, as the dovin basals possesed a tremdous amount of crushing gravitational power that both propelled and protected the huge world. How did Aden know so much when he was new?
"Acknowleged, Six. Fortitude is going to concentrate their firepower over a large section of the worldship, so hopefully, they'll be busy. Any questions?" There was a pause of silence. "No? Let's do our jobs, people."
Wordlessly, Wedge and Jysella's wing groups flew behind Hefd's and Asla's flights, as the latter would clear up any opposition first. It was a desparate attempt at allowing the Fortitude to reach hyperspace before the Vong overhwhelmed it. The disabling of the dovin basals would eliminate the huge gravitaional field preventing any hyperspace jumps. It would also provide a window of confusion in which the Rogues would be able to jump away as well. Then, hopefully they would be able to regorup and tend to casaultites.
"Target in range. Engage!" Hefd's voice ignited action in his flight, and they were away, pouncing on the relatively small group that had been directed away from the main furball to protect the vulnerable basals. This was the only surprise involved in the attack, so they would have to speed up the attack. Also, the dovin basals had a chance of realizing they were in danger, so Jysella would have to "dark fire" her torps. "Dark firing" was akin to the dive-bombing technique used by a few bomber-pilots in atmospheric enviroments, and it was also a step up from "blind firing," which was launching torps without guidance and targeting. Basically, the X-Wing you accelerate to a high speed, the release the missle. The momentum would propel the torpedo, and the low friction of space would keep it going until it hit its target. The upside was that there was no heat invovled in the process, so the Yuuzhan Vong would not detech the launch. After intructing Nenan to do the same, they fired simultameously. Normally, a Jedi would be able to propel them with the Force alone, freeing the X-Wing from the risky job of accelerating in a straight line and making an easy target.
I wish I could do that now. But It's not the time to whimper now.
Wedge's flight did the same, and Jysella watched as the projectiles speeded toward their target. When they were a considerable distance away, she launched the rest of the missles. "Okay, we're done here! Let's give Hefd a hand." Nenan wagged her wings and followed. Hefd had held his own against the patol, evading whenever possible. The coralskippers seemed only concered with the two groups attacking them, not the mysterious antics of the other X-WIngs, which was fortunate for the squadron. Now they would have to hope that the proton torpedoes did their job. Meanwhile, Jysella began to assist her outnumbered squadmates.
No sooner had she done so when a skip took an interest to her. "Nine, watch your six!" shouted Hefd. Plasma began to scorch at her aft shields. "Got it, Four." She jinked left and sideslipped to the right, throwing the skip's aim off lsightly. That was all she needed to drop to 1/3 throttle and nose downwards, causing the skip to overshoot slightly. When she pitched the starfighter up again, it was easy to position the crosshair over the turning skip and squeeze the trigger. Red bolts melted holes in the control surfaces, making it list slightly before heading toward the worldship in a twisting spiral that would lead to its demise.
"Uh oh. I've getting double teamed her, Nine. Help."
"Coming, Six," Nenan replied. Then to Jysella, she said, "I'll be back."
"Fine." Jysella turned to engage the skip that Gavin was harrasing Gavin. "I'll get him off your tail, Lead."
"Thanks, Nine." However, Gavin's words barely finished when a loud explosion nearly blinded Jysella. Saved by her blast visor, she turned her head and saw a large mushroom cloud erupt on the surface of the world ship. Static cheering from not only the Rogues also erupted through the comm.
Proves that there's still a bit of magic left in the Rogues after all!
She shouted her victory in enjoyment, as she tracked her stunned quary. Blinded by the light, the confused pilot was easy to kill. Now eased of distraction, she looked out to where the Formidable should have been. To her amazement, it was gone. They had made it.
"This is Rogue Lead! Proceed to hyperspace point, now!"
"Aden, you still owe me that fifty creds. I never forget."
"I was hoping you would."
"Nah. It was what kept me alive."
"Shut up, you two. That's an order."
Jysella closed her eyes. It had been close. Too close. But they had managed to escape a worldship, against all odds-something only they would have been able to do. She would have to get some more sleep on the next jump. There was no more danger of them being killed now; they were free of anything th Vong could send after them. She turned back once more, and could spot the flaming area where the basals once resided in the distance.
Reaching the jump point, the Rogues in front of her hyperspaced out of the area, in no hurry to stay. Keg whistled when they had reached the point as well, and Jysella rammed the lever forward that would take them to the regrouping area.
