	Disclaimer: I own nothing! It’s all George Lucas' world; I’m just hanging out for a while. Sue me and get nothing; I’m in charity work aka nearly broke. AUTHOR NOTE: OK, this just popped into my head and demanded to be written. Perfect timing what with DRL kicking my you know what of late, but what could I do? If anyone likes it, I'll do my best to update regularly. If nobody does...well, it was fun to write this much. For the record, this is the most ambitious project I’ve ever undertaken. As to where exactly it’s going... your guess is nearly as good as mine at this point. Ideas, scenes, and dialogue I’ve got; everything else... A general sense of this universe, yes I’ve got that, too. Still a few things that need to be tweaked, but this damn bunny insisted on being let out of his cage, immediately. This stories ties directly to some of my other works, both completed and in progress, but we’ll get to that later. I would have liked to have kept this under wraps a bit longer, but it is one of those bunnies that just won’t let you alone. So to save my dwindling sanity, I’m posting its beginning, and saying a few silent prayers in the process. Title: The Sith Insurrection Author: JD. Characters: The Skywalker/Solo clan, and a galaxy of others. I’ve listed some of the others below, but more will be added over time. Type: Novel-length AU Era: Post-NJO Genre: Drama/action/romance/political intrigue, and whatever else I decide to throw in. Summary: Will the return of a hero bring jubilation, or herald the end of postwar peace...and the Galactic Alliance? Dramatis Personae: To be updated/edited as needed by yours truly. 	Chapter 1 The unwilling servant Korriban was a hellish place even in the best of times, and these were not the best of times on the Sith homeworld. Lightening lit the night sky, and loud cracks of thunder shook the planet's surface. The nightmare creatures that called Korriban home scattered as the raging storm continued to intensify. The planet had no natives left for they had died out long ago, but there were people now present on the darkside shrouded world. Deep within the bowels of the burial complex that had been erected to serve as the final resting place for Darth Vader, she sat quietly. The large stone chamber was illuminated entirely by old style torches, and it was sparsely furnished. Three long sets of stone steps lead to up to a single jewel encrusted throne; a throne that now held the last living vestige of the Sith. Light from the torches danced off her shiny, metallic body. Her eyes were closed as she awaited the visitor she knew would soon be arriving. When at last she felt his presence appear before her, she opened her eyes slowly. Hidden behind her head-wrap, her mouth quirked into a cruel smile. "Welcome home, My Master." "This place is not and will never be home to me, Shira. I would expect you to understand that better than most," his ghostly form retorted. "And you should know that name holds no meaning for me anymore," she replied harshly. "It doesn't have to be this way, you know. You could throw off the shackles of the darkside and embrace the light; it would welcome you as it once did me. The lightside can be most forgiving if only you would allow it into your life." She ignored his plea and began taunting him. "I should thank you for all that you have done for me, Master. Without your help I would never have gained such a powerful and worthy apprentice," she spoke in a casual voice. "You must release him; he was never meant to serve the darkside. Free him now,...Lumiya, and you might yet be spared." She snorted in disgust. "I have restored him to life, Master, as the Emperor once restored you. As you once restored me, if I recall correctly. If these circumstances pain you so, then you have only yourself to blame. It was you, Master, who taught me things forbidden to all but two. You who revealed secrets of the Sith that no mere disciple should have been permitted to learn. I am as I was trained to be, as you made me, Master." "How have you done this, Lumiya? I did not teach you such things, and the Emperor surely did not." "I have studied and learned much since your death, since the demise of your Sith order. There are ways that one who is no more can live again, can be as they once were, Master. He owes me his life, as you owed yours to your master." "He will never be yours, Lumiya, he will never be a slave to the darkside." The blue specter's fists balled at his sides; his anger growing at her insinuations. "Apprentice, come here. Now!" She waited as her young apprentice moved to stand beside her. Anakin Skywalker's heart broke as he watched his grandson take his place beside the Dark Lady of the Sith, Lumiya. How could the Force have allowed something like this to happen? Hadn't his family suffered through enough; hadn't he paid for his crimes? And why Anakin? The boy was pure and good, not tainted as he had been. Had not the burden of redeeming his wretched name been enough? Anakin Skywalker could feel anger and hatred swelling within him, but, unlike before, he was able to push such feelings aside. Tell me, Anakin, who is your master now?" Lumiya began again. "You are, Lady Lumiya." Anakin Solo's voice was barely a whisper, and his ice blue eyes reflected the depth of pain in his soul. "You see, Master. He belongs to me," she announced triumphantly. "He is an unwilling servant," Anakin Skywalker remarked coolly. "So he is," she conceded. "But, unwilling or not, he is mine. In time, he will grow to accept his destiny, his place at my side. Just as you once did with the Emperor, My Master." "I appear before you as a free man, as proof that you are doomed to failure. I broke loose from my master's control; so will it be with my grandson." "After how many years, Master?" She paused to enjoy her former master's pained expression before continuing. "I assure you, I will not waste time as the Emperor did before replacing this boy with a more fitting apprentice. The Galactic Alliance will fall, and new empire, my empire will rise in its place. The darkside will dominate once more, and our dominance will come at the point of your grandson's blade,...Lord Vader." "If this is the course you truly wish to follow there is little more I can do for you. But beware, you bring your destruction down upon yourself, my former Apprentice." "The threats of a ghost mean nothing to me," she said as she turned in her seat to receive a datapad from one of her red-robed, royal guards. "I warn you, Lumiya, do not underestimate my powers." And with those words he retreated back into the Force, and was gone. The Dark Lady turned her head back, but Anakin Skywalker's blue image had already faded away. She quirked her eyebrows in curiosity, but soon thoughts of her former master were replaced by thoughts of her future empire. Her plans had been well laid, and with the Yuuzhan Vong threat now over she was free to begin at last. It would require much work, but, in the end, she would emerge the victor. The Jedi were her only real threat, and the Vong had seen to it that their numbers dwindled to less than half their previous strength. Not to mention the fact that the most powerful among them now served as her right hand. The Dark Lady's attention was drawn to the steps before her as her chief advisor approached. Adorned in flowing burgundy robes and with a matching miter atop his head, Vaj Balbri approached his master cautiously. His sickly appearance was in a word- deceptive. Beneath the seemingly frail exterior lurked a cunning and ruthless mind. Trained in disciplines including: law, politics, and the dark arts of the Force; Vaj Balbri was a man with few peers and fewer friends. "I overheard you speaking with someone, Master Lumiya." Balbri's voice was inquiring, but he didn't dare ask a direct question. "My old master came calling, as I knew he would once he learned that I have the boy." "Lord Vader was here, Master?" "It was expected, and should not concern you. His powers have grown weak, and he cannot interfere." "But what if he informs his son, or some of the other Jedi?" "Did you not hear me? He cannot interfere with my plans. Doing so would spell death for his grandson, and he will not risk that." "I see your point, M'Lady." "I knew that you would. Now, tell me what you have learned." "Princess Leia will be arriving on Denon within the week. She has a busy schedule of appearances planned. But there will be...opportunities, M'Lady." "I trust you will be a most accommodating host, will you not?" "Oh I most certainly will, Master. I am quite looking forward to having a woman of such esteem as my guest." "Good. I wish you to take my apprentice with you when you leave for Denon. I believe the experience will prove most valuable to his training." "You are most kind to lend me his services, M'Lady." "I'll kill you!" Anakin suddenly spit out as he momentarily broke free of Lumiya's control. His ice blue eyes narrowed as his gaze locked with Vaj's green orbs. "No, Boy," Vaj chastised gently. "You will kill the princess, young Solo. And I shall be most grateful to you for your assistance." "I'll die before killing my own mother," Anakin proclaimed, struggling to get each word out. Lumiya rose from her throne and moved to stand in front of Anakin. She ran a silver, gauntlet covered hand against his cheek. "No, you will kill your mother for me, and do you know why, Anakin? You'll do it because it is the only way you can stay alive long enough to stop me. You know my plans, how the pieces are all in place. They cannot stop me; my victory is inevitable. You yourself have foreseen my conquest of this galaxy. You are their only hope, their only chance of defeating me. Jedi always put the good of the many above the concerns of the one, isn't that right?" Anakin began to shake with anger and frustration. A film of sweat broke out on his forehead as Lumiya continued to caress his cheek. He wanted so desperately to pull away, but he was powerless to do so. She was so close, and he was armed, but... "Besides," she continued, "your mother has proven time and again that she is willing to give her life to save the galaxy from people like me. Do you honestly believe that has changed any? And what better way to die a hero than at the hands of your own son? I would think she would take some measure of comfort in dying in a manner such as that." Standing halfway up the last set of steps, Vaj Balbri smiled cruelly at the scene he was witness to. The boy was suffering so much, and yet he remained defiant- it was almost admirable, he mused. Still, his master would, in time, break the boy's will. Eventually, Anakin Solo would embrace his dark heritage; it was unavoidable. And when he did, darkness would once again cover the land, and Lady Lumiya would be empress. "Vaj," Lumiya began as she once more faced her advisor. "What of the eldest Solo child?" "She will be on Naboo in two days time to rendezvous with her lover, Baron Fel's son. Should I make arrangements concerning the pair, Master?" "No, that won't be necessary, Vaj. I will deal with her myself. You need only worry about my master's daughter." "As you wish, M'Lady. Will there be anything else?" Lumiya paused for a moment to consider the question before replying to her advisor. "No, you may leave to prepare for your journey. I will send my apprentice to you shortly, but first he must meditate. The darkside beckons, and he will heed its call," she said turning to face Anakin. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Blue met red in a series of violent impacts that shook the surrounding area. She could feel his anger, his hatred, and his...love? He charged at her; his savage onslaught driving her back with each blow. Ice blue eyes were bulging out of his head, and a thick sheen of sweat covered his face and neck. A man possessed; he seemed barely in control of his own limbs as the duel continued. Finally, she was thrown to the ground, her saber flying free of her grasp. She looked up at him; she expected it to be for the last time. Instead; however, he had stopped, frozen in place. His breathing was ragged, and his whole body shook with effort as he fought to restrain himself. "Run! His voice was desperate and pleading. "I won't leave you alone; you need help," she said as she rose to her feet. "Run," he forced out again. "No! Tell me what's wrong, please," she begged him. "Run! Damn you,” he snarled, “I said run!" He screamed before throwing his red bladed saber at her. The ignited lightsaber's red blade invaded her vision, and she could feel it as it connected with her flesh. Tahiri jerked into a sitting position in her bed. Her body was bathed in sweat, and she gasped for breath. Chest heaving, Tahiri stared wide-eyed out into the darkness of her room. What was that? Her mind raced, and heart pounded, but no answer came. 	Gah! Just when I thought I had one less story to follow!!!!! Cool - you have Vehn and Qorl and Lando and Tendra. I've become very fond of them. It's funny how writing characters can make you feel close to them. Of course I knew you'd have the Noghri. Poor Anakin. He's almost like C3PO - born to suffer. Good intro to the story though. You've set it up well. Anakin Skywalker could feel anger and hatred swelling within him, but, unlike before, he was able to push such feelings aside Damn - don't you just hate it when you give up the Dark Side and then suddenly you find you need it!. Do I sense an unspoken allusion to the Vader/Maul duel here as well? Anakin Skywalker's heart broke as he watched his grandson take his place beside the Dark Lady of the Sith, Lumiya. Hang on - I only saw one grandson of Vader's in the Dramatis Personae... How could the Force have allowed something like this to happen? Hadn't his family suffered through enough; hadn't he paid for his crimes? Doesn't that undercut what he's saying to Lumiya? And why Anakin? Hmm... Yeah. Somehow, I thought it would be him. Cool seeing Korriban in a fic You've got Anakin Solo alive, which is always a great way to start a fic in my opinion and being trained to the dark side is an excellent twist. I also really like the use of old and forgotten characters like Daala.
