The blue metallic XJ X-wing taxied to a stop by a pair of similar fighters, one a glossy white with a voxyn on the side, and the other with a sun going supernova depicted on the fuselage.
The crew members ran over and set up a stepladder for the pilot, who climbed out of the cockpit and doffed her helmet.
Deep, red-gold hair cascaded down her back. She was petite and slender, but had shapely curves that made the men stop and stare, even when hidden under a pilot's flight suit.
Katrael Skywalker waited until her astromech, Nomi, was lowered from the X-wing. She glanced around the hangar, then stopped, frozen, when she spotted a TIE-reminiscent clawcraft, of Chiss design, off to one side.
Conflict filled her. Katrael prayed that it wasn't his, but a small part of her, in the back of her mind, prayed it was. She'd got along just fine without him, for six years, and she could continue to do so.
"Come on, Nomi," she said. "Let's go find Mom and Dad."
The droid warbled questioningly.
She smiled. "Yes, I'm sure Artoo and Threepio would love to hear your stories."
----------
After Katrael had showered and changed into her Jedi robes--a comfort after hours upon hours in her flight suit--she went to greet her father, who was on the observation platform at the top of the Great Temple, teaching a group of young children. Master Luke Skywalker sat in the middle of a circle formed by the students, who lay on their backs, eyes closed.
Another Jedi Master, Kyp Durron, sat nearby, watching with a look of contented amusement. He saw Katrael and gave a small wave.
"Children, we have a visitor," Luke said suddenly. "You all remember Katrael, my daughter."
The children all opened their eyes and sat up. "Hello, Mistress Katrael!" they said in unison. All but three or four, who called her "Kaeta".
Katrael smiled as her six-year-old brother, Gylian, and his female twin, Amidala, ran over. They latched onto her, fiercely. Zeth and Anakin Durron, also twins, and Kyp's children, came running, as did Ben, Katrael's seven-year-old half-brother.
The rest of the children consisted of Alishen ap Uiletor, also six, who was Katrael's cousin; Aurelle Solo, cousin to Anakin and Zeth; and a group of children who, mercifully, weren't any relation. There were twelve total.
"Where you been?" Gylian asked.
"Doing stuff for Dad," Katrael said. "What have you been learning today?"
"We were feeling Yavin," Amidala said, from the vicinity of Katrael's hip. "It was neat."
"That
is
neat. Now, why don't all of you little monkey-lizards let me talk to Master Skywalker and Master Durron?"
Reluctantly, the children peeled themselves away.
"You have to tell us stories," Ben said accusingly.
"I will, don't worry," she laughed.
Luke directed Ben, the nominal ringleader, to take the children down to the mess hall for the mid-day meal. All twelve eventually descended the turbolift, leaving Katrael, Kyp, and Luke alone on the rooftop.
"We spotted your X-wing coming in," Luke said, giving his eldest child a hug. "Honestly, I wasn't expecting you back for a while."
"The dispute was settled pretty fast," she said. "The daughter of the famous Luke Skywalker comes in with her infamous blue X-wing, and people tend to fall in line. I didn't have a single problem."
"Have you seen your mother?"
"No, I got cleaned up and came right up here. Where is she?"
"Lightsaber training with the older students," Kyp said. "Between Dana and Mara, we're going to produce some serious warriors."
"It's good to be able to defend yourself if the need arises," Luke said. "But yes, their fighting skills will be impressive."
"Where's Jaina?"
Kyp's eyes fell half-closed, then he smiled and said, "She's with the little kids, teaching them how to lift little rocks."
The warmth in Kyp's voice was indicative of how much he loved his wife, the mother of their three children, Anakin, Zeth, and four-year-old Risa. Katrael smiled, feeling a little wistful and envious.
"You two make me gag, still!"
Kyp grinned.
They headed for the turbolift and Katrael filled them in on the details of her recent trip. Then she parted ways with them and headed for a small clearing outside. There, she found Jaina Durron with several even smaller children, all five or younger, as they tried to lift pebbles that sat in their palms. A few were very good at it, with pebbles dancing around their heads, while others were just barely moving them, and in one case, not succeeding at all.
With a smile, Katrael recognised Lira Horn, daughter of Corran Horn, Jedi Master. Lira was twelve years younger than her brother Valin, and had been something of a surprise to her parents. Unfortunately, her lack of telekinetic abilities had been anything
but
a surprise. The Horns were famous for, as Corran had put it once, "I can't move a rock, but I can sure make it
think
it's been moved." Their strong points were Force projections and energy absorption.
Jaina looked up and smiled. "Kaeta. You're back. How did your trip go?"
"It was well. Hello, children."
Teneniel Solo Djo dropped her rock and raced over. "Kaeta!"
Katrael hugged her, then Risa, who had been reluctant to leave her mother's side.
Jaina was only twenty-six, a mere two years older than Katrael, but she'd been married to Kyp since the age of ninteen, near the middle of the war with the Yuuzhan Vong. Her long, dark hair was braided. She looked very different from when Katrael had first seen her, not long before the death of Jaina's brother, Anakin, for whom the Durrons' son was named.
Katrael assisted with the lesson for a little while, then they let the children play with their new skill.
"You're looking well," she said to her cousin.
Jaina grinned. "It's actually pretty refrshing here. You should spend a little more time here, Kaeta, instead of in the cockpit of that flying 'fresher."
"What can I say, I like flying." Katrael leaned back against a tree stump. "Admit it, you're only here instead of out flying around because of your kids."
"Busted." Jaina eyed her speculatively, with a steady brown gaze. "What about you? Don't you think it's time
you
settled down?"
"I'm barely twenty-four, Jaya. I've time yet."
Jaina pulled Risa onto her lap. "You've got to stop kidding yourself. The reason you spend so much time out near Tatooine and that part of the Outer Rim is because it's as far from Chiss space as you can get without leaving the galaxy."
Katrael looked away, not confirming or denying her cousin's words.
"If I were you, I'd be angry, too. But it's been six years." Jaina kissed the top of Risa's head. She was silent for a moment, then said, "He's here, you know."
"I know." Katrael sighed. "I thought as much when I saw his clawcraft in the hangar. I'm not eager to see him. And if he wants to talk to me, he'll just have to wait until I'm good and ready."
"Begging and grovelling on his knees wouldn't hurt, either, I'm guessing," Jaina laughed softly.
Katrael laughed, and turned a little red. "No. No, not really."

YAY! It's up!!
I liked the part where you show how Kyp still feels as strongly for Jaina after all these years, and they have a daughter now, too!!
I always liked the image of Jaina teaching the really young kids, too, which you've done.
And Jag's back...and Katrael is here, too, hmmmm...Can we expect some K/J angst of not the Kyp/Jaina variety? (Did that make sense?)
Anyway, very nice opening post! Can't wait for more!

Yay!
I liked the part where you show how Kyp still feels as strongly for Jaina after all these years, and they have a daughter now, too!!
Unfortunately, Kyp and Jaina aren't the main characters in this one, but they're close. There's plenty of K/J later, but for right now, not so much.
I always liked the image of Jaina teaching the really young kids, too, which you've done.
Here, and also in "Sorry".
And Jag's back...and Katrael is here, too, hmmmm...Can we expect some K/J angst of not the Kyp/Jaina variety? (Did that make sense?)
Yeah, it made sense. Only, I call Jag/Kaeta J/K, to differentiate from K/J (Kyp/Jaina).
Anyway, very nice opening post! Can't wait for more!
Thanks.

More!
Katrael was watching the older students, those on the verge of becoming Knights, spar with their stun weapons designed to look like lightsabers. Her mother, Dantana ni Uiletor Skyewali--also known as Dana Skywalker--was instructing them.
She enjoyed watching her mother move with a lightsaber. Dana was the best swordswoman in the galaxy, skill honed through long hours of practice and a deep connection with the Force that had been in her since birth. Luke was still better, it was true, but not everyone could be Luke Skywalker. Jacen Solo was also highly skilled, but Kaeta had yet to see him spar with Dana.
Behind Katrael, a twig snapped. She didn't jump, having sensed his approach quite a bit before. But her heart beat a little faster in her chest, and her breath came a little shorter. The blood was a little closer to the surface of her cheeks. Strange, how after six years, he could still make her pulse race.
"Kaeta Skywalker."
She didn't look up, merely glaced to the side as he sat down. "Colonel Jagged Fel."
"It's actually General now, but you've never much cared for addressing me by my proper rank," he said easily. "When I heard you were here, I had to see you."
She looked up then. "I don't have anything to say to you,
General
. Leave me alone."
"You've changed, Kaeta."
"It's a little thing called war. Getting my wingmate obliterated by a coralskipper I was too distracted to fight because . . ." She shook her head and stood up. "And don't call me that."
Jag rose, reaching to catch her arm. Katrael shook him off. He followed her until they reached another clearing.
"Katrael. Please."
Katrael stopped and pivoted. Her blue eyes were cold. "Yes, General Fel?"
"You didn't used to be like this. You would have listened to me. You've become hard. It's not difficult to see."
Katrael smiled, but humourlessly. "I've changed. I don't listen."
"What happened to you?" he repeated. "The form is the same, but the person inside it is different."
She looked up at the orange gas giant in the blue, blue sky. "I was in love once. There was this pilot. I was young and incredibly naive. He was quiet and reserved, very polite. He said he cared for me. And I believed him. We flew together in a squadron. I trusted him implicitly."
Katrael lowered her blue gaze to lock eyes with his solemn, pale green. "And one day, he left. He was gone, like laserfire into a coralskipper's void. I felt like I'd been ripped in half."
He stepped forward. "Are you telling me
I'm
responsible?"
"Hey, you're not as dumb as you look."
The instant the words left her mouth, she regretted them.
Jag flinched. "I deserved that. But, Kaeta, I'm sorry. I thought you understood. Believe me, it was just as difficult for me to leave."
Katrael scoffed. "Please. I'm not that stupid little girl anymore. I no longer take your words at face value. For example, you never contacted me. You said you would."
"I tried. I tried many times. But I was told again and again that you didn't want to talk to me, so eventually, I gave up."
"Katrael, I have been here for nearly two weeks, waiting for you to come back. I wanted to see you."
She held up her hands and turned in a circle. "There, now you've seen me. Go away."
"Katrael."
Katrael levelled him with a look. He fell silent, not sure if he wanted to hear what she was about to say. "You know that pilot? His leaving may have hurt, and it might have made me bitter. But I got over him."
She stormed off. Jag sat down on a log and sighed. He'd come to Yavin Four hoping to make amends. But he'd lost her.
----------
The door closed with a crash. Katrael threw herself down on her stomach, across her bunk, and lay there for a moment, staring at the stone wall. Then she huffed and rolled over.
"How dare he?" she said aloud. "He's got arrogance, thinking he can show up here after six years and try to make amends!"
Kaeta sat up and swung her legs over the side of the bed. She shoved her hands through her long hair, watching the straight, silky strands fall from her fingers like threads of flame. It reminded her of the times she and Jag would lay on his bunk--since hers was in her parents' quarters--and he would run his fingers through her hair. He was always so fascinated with it.
Abruptly, extremely annoyed with herself, Katrael dropped her hands to her sides and stood. Growling under her breath, she stalked to the door and went to search out her parents.
----------
Dantana had just dismissed her class and was talking to Luke, who had just arrived in time to see her students off, when Katrael stormed into the clearing. Dana glanced at her husband, and stepped slightly in front of him, drawing Katrael's attention to her.
"Alanna, is something wrong?" she asked, though it was obvious to anyone Katrael was agitated.
"Jag says that you told him I didn't want to talk to him," their daughter burst out.
Luke exchanged a look with his wife, then said, "You asked us to. Not long after Jag left."
"For six
years
?!" she demanded.
"You never said otherwise," a new voice said.
Katrael turned. Mara Jade Skywalker, her mother's twin and her father's former wife, appeared through the trees. She had her red hair tailed back at the nape of her neck. Her green eyes were hard.
"Don't go blaming your parents for something *you* did. You told them to tell Jag you weren't speaking to him. You never rescinded the order. It seems to me you've been incredibly ungrateful to your parents for the last several years, for everything they've done for you."
Katrael's violet-tinged blue eyes narrowed. She took a step towards Mara, but the others intervened. Dana placed her hand on her daughter's shoulder, and Luke moved in front of her.
"Kaeta," Dana said quietly. "She is right . . . about you telling us. Do not blame us for that. You could have said something at any time."
Katrael's jaw clenched. She stared intensely at her mother for a moment, then slowly relaxed. "You're right, it's my fault. I just . . . got angry when I saw Jag today."
"That's understandable," Luke said. "It can be a shock to see someone again, after a long time, when you once had something special with that person."
His eyes were fixed on Dana, who looked at him briefly, then glanced at her sister.
Mara cleared her throat. "Well, I'm headed off with Lando and Tendra. I was . . . thinking I could take Ben with me."
Sensing that this wasn't a conversation for her ears, Katrael nodded and said, "I'm going to go find Ami and Lian . . ."
She hurried off. Luke watched her go, then turned to Mara. "For how long?"
"I don't know," his former lover acknowledged. "I, uh . . . Luke, Dana, this is still difficult for me. I need to get away for a while, and I thought I'd take my son along."
Luke looked at Dana, who said, "Do not ask me, Luke. This is between you and Mharaine."
She turned and followed her daughter.

This is great already! Awesome. And by the way...if Katrael and Ben are the children of identical(or maybe fraternal) twins...which of them is stronger? Or are they a Jacen/Jaina type of thing? Anyways, this is a great sequel. Keep going!

Really, I did read this the other night. I'm not sure why I didn't reply...
I really liked the Katrael and Jag scene, especially the part where she spun around and told him to go away. She was strong and all that to his face, and then back in her room she starts thinking about when they were together.
I also liked the awkwardness with Luke/Dana and Mara. I mean, really, how does one get used to losing her husband to a woman she just learned was her twin sister, who apparently was already married to him...really.
Great postie, as always. Now, MORE!!!
