There was a very good question about the HALLOWEEN CHALLENGE - How will it be judged?

I was so excited to get the challenge rolling that I forgot to put up the important stuff! So here goes...

You will be scored out of ten possible points for each category below.

Challenge paramaters (Did the writer use all the required words, opening sentence, adhere to the word limit?)
Grammar/spelling/punctuation (Just like it sounds.)
Originality (Is the idea unique or different? Does the story standout from the others?)
Characterizations (Are the characters true to the Star Wars EU?)
Overall impression

I hope that helps wink

Okay guys, it’s getting late and no takers yet? shock Well, I guess I’ll start things off. (Apparently my muse only responds to challenges these days . . . frustrated )

The Art of Execution

A blood-curdling scream pierced the night, and everyone in the room froze.

“What was that?” the couple that had just stepped up to the desk to check in asked simultaneously, their eyes wide in fright.

“Oh, I’m sure it was nothing; one of the guests must be watching a spooky holovid,” the owner of the establishment soothed automatically, even as his mind was racing. That sounded like it came from the room down the hall. Oh, no! He pasted on the sincerest smile that he could muster and said smoothly, “Excuse me for just a moment.”

Without waiting for a response, he slipped into the back room and grabbed his porter by the ear and hauled him to his feet, causing the slight little man to howl in pain. He scowled at him, snarling, “The couple you just took to Room 111 - you did warn them, didn’t you?”

The porter looked up at him sheepishly. “Um, I might have forgotten.”

* * * * * * * *

Room 111, a few moments earlier

“Next time, I will make the travel arrangements,” Jaina proclaimed sourly as she surveyed the room.

“I don’t know what you are insinuating,” Jag said innocently, not willing to admit right away that he was as dismayed with their accommodations as she appeared to be.

“Jag, this place is positively creepy!”

“Jaina,” he chided, “where is your sense of adventure?”

She placed her hands on her hips and shot a dark glance at him. “Isn’t that my line?”

“One that you have used on me too many times,” he said with a wry smirk. “So why am I being chastised now for taking the initiative?”

“Jag, I’m serious,” she said impatiently. “I can feel a dark presence –” she paused for a moment and closed her eyes in concentration, “– right here in this room.”

A retort popped immediately into his mind, but he quickly stifled the urge to utter it. He could tell that she was being serious, and her insights from the Force were not a joking matter. “What is it?” he asked, furrowing his brows in concern.

“I’m not sure, but it’s coming from that,” she said as she pointed to a decorative mask on the wall.

Or what some twisted individual considers decorative. It appeared to be the face of a human skeleton made from some sort of glossy black material. What commanded his attention was the large faceted gem in the center of the forehead; it was the color of freshly spilled blood, with what appeared to be black clouds seemingly roiling within the stone.

“Well, look at that,” she remarked as she removed the mask from the wall and turned it over in her hands. “The point sticks out through the back. I’ll bet that would poke right into your forehead if you wore this,” she mused just before gingerly touching the gem.

Jag watched in horror as instantly her body stiffened and an almost inhuman scream tore from her throat before her eyes rolled into the back of her head and she collapsed to the floor, unconscious.

“Jaina!” he cried. Shunting aside the paralyzing fear that gripped him, Jag quickly dropped to her side. He noted that her breathing was fast and shallow as he checked her pulse, which he found to be racing. He could tell that her eyes were darting furiously back and forth behind her closed eyelids, and he noted with some surprise that despite her fall, she still clutched the mask tightly

Surmising that the tip of the gem could have been coated in some sort of poison, possibly hallucinogenic, Jag reached for the mask to remove it and see if it had punctured Jaina’s finger. He grasped the top of the mask, but as soon as his palm made contact with the top of the faceted stone, a white-hot pain shot up his arm to engulf his entire being. The last sound that he heard was his own tortured scream before the white reversed to black.

Abruptly, he found himself standing in the midst of a foggy landscape. The dim, reddish light of dusk cast an eerie glow onto the gnarled, dead trees that dotted an otherwise barren field. In a small clearing just ahead, Jag could see two figures clearly, as if they were bathed in a spotlight. One was a tall figure, clothed in a black hooded robe, which was slowly advancing on the other figure – Jaina. Tears were streaming down her face and she was looking up at the figure in wide-eyed horror, looking like she had seen a ghost.

“No. It can’t be . . .” she whispered.

“You left me,” the figure accused.

“No,” she sobbed quietly as she fell to her knees.

Now towering above her, the black-robed figure reached down with his left hand and clutched Jaina by the throat, lifting her in the air like a child’s toy.

“No!” Jag cried out as he rushed forward.

Without sparing him a glance, the hooded figure thrust a hand toward him, sending Jag flying backward. His flight came to an abrupt and painful end against one of the gnarled trees. Desperately, he struggled to move, but an unseen force held him firmly in place against the tree; the pain from the bark and broken limbs digging into his back was insignificant compared to the pain of watching in helpless agony as the figure continued to crush the life out of Jaina. He screamed her name over and over in an attempt to distract her attacker, his throat becoming raw with the effort.

The figure turned his head toward Jag, his face still masked by the shadows of his hood, and he rotated his outstretched hand palm upward then violently clenched it into a fist, and Jag felt his throat close up simultaneously with the motion. In an adrenaline-fueled panic, he fought vainly to breathe, but his windpipe was closed completely. For a moment, Jaina’s gaze met his, and he could see the pained recognition there that she was as helpless to save his life as he was to save hers. He closed his eyes, hoping to envision Jaina in a happier moment as the image that he would take to his grave, but he could only see her haunted eyes begging for an escape from this nightmare.

Without warning, his whole world disappeared in a blinding white haze then suddenly plunged into blackness. Consciousness returned just as quickly, and he found himself on his back, staring up at a ceiling and gasping for air. He was flooded with relief as he realized that it must have been just a frighteningly realistic nightmare. Jag was forced to reassess that belief when he pushed himself up to a sitting position and turned to look at Jaina – she was also breathing in deep, uneven gulps; the gruesome purplish tint to her skin fading with every breath and four angry red fingerprints and a thumbprint appearing on either side of her throat.

“Jaina,” he breathed in a horrified whisper.

“Jag?” she rasped, seeming a bit disoriented.

He leaned forward to help her as she struggled to sit upright. “Jaina, are you all right?” he asked, his voice still a bit gravelly from the abuse from a few moments ago.

She nodded and assured him, “I’ll be fine.”

Jag wanted to believe her and wanted to believe the same of himself, but his emotions were still tumbling wildly from the whole ordeal. As he searched her eyes for something to anchor him, he could see the same turmoil that he felt mirrored there. He pulled Jaina into his embrace and hugged her fiercely, offering his strength and drawing on hers in return.

They pulled away suddenly as they both realized that they were not alone in the room. In perfect synchronicity, they looked up to see the proprietor as he finished hanging the mask back on the wall, fervent apologies spilling from his thin lips.

What in the Corellian Hells is that thing?” Jaina spat out angrily as they rose to their feet.

He beamed proudly. “One of the most intriguing pieces in my collection. To be honest, I don’t know anything of its history. I just saw it in a little curiosity shop on one of my last trips off-planet, and I just knew that it would be perfect for this room,” he gushed.

Only his Chiss-ingrained sense of control kept Jag from punching the smile off of the man’s face. “Your intriguing piece of art almost killed us,” he said icily.

“And I am so sorry. The porter was supposed to warn you not to touch the stone – there have been a few minor incidents before. I had no idea that prolonged contact could be so hazardous.”

“Well, I can fix that for you,” Jaina said as she unhooked her lightsaber from her belt. Before Jag had a chance to ask her what in blazes she thought she was doing, she ignited it and shoved the violet blade through the stone in the mask.

“Hey!” the proprietor cried indignantly. “I expect you to pay for that damage!”

She quickly spun and pointed the tip of her lightsaber perilously close to his throat. “Just be glad that’s all I’ve damaged,” she hissed.

“Yes, ma’am,” he squeaked.

She glared at him menacingly for another few heartbeats before extinguishing her blade and clipping the hilt back to her belt. “Let’s go, Jag. There’s no way that I am sleeping in this place,” she stated emphatically.

Jag could not have agreed more, but it was late; they would have to make do here until the morning. “Jaina, it is too late to go anywhere else tonight.”

Her mouth flapped open to protest, but he silenced her with a simple trust me look.

Jag turned on the proprietor, commanding in a voice usually reserved for the greenest recruits, “You will show us to the room farthest away from this one. No charge, of course.”

“Oh, of course, of course,” he assured quickly. “I will send the porter right away to collect your luggage and show you to our most luxurious suite,” he proclaimed then slithered out the door before another word could be spoken.

Jaina sniffed indignantly. “I hope that ‘most luxurious’ means: free from creepy pieces of art that can kill you,” she groused.

“As long as you can keep your hands to yourself, I am sure that we will be fine,” Jag replied smugly.

She arched an eyebrow and stepped as close as she could without actually touching him. “You don’t really mean that, now do you?” she asked, her voice low and seductive.

He smiled as he pulled her close. “Not at all,” he said in a tone of voice that matched hers just before their lips met in a passionate kiss.

I don't celebrate Halloween, but I feel sorry for you.

Here's a shot. I did it in half an hour or so, so I doubt it's good. I think it's stupid, actually… [shrug] It's something.

I haven't read any Jag or Jaina in awhile, either, which my characterization will suffer from. Oh, well.

(That's not a good opening line, BTW. And all those required adjectives aren't a good idea. It's better to use nouns and verbs than adjectives; yes, I know I struggle with it. I don't intend this meanly—I just wanted to alert you to that.)

May others post! happy

Prank Gone Wrong

A blood-curdling scream pierced the night, and everyone in the room froze.

"Mom!" Jedi Knight Jaina Solo stumbled out of her chair.

Jagged Fel managed to extricate himself from the sabaac game a little more gracefully. "Jaina?"

The brunette Jedi had already vanished down the hall. He glanced aside at Tahiri, who was shielding a grin. "I forgot."

"You forgot? We weren't going to do that to her! What about—" An eerie howl interrupted him. "There's only so much that a pregnant woman can handle!"

The blonde Jedi shrugged, bare feet propped on the sabaac table. "Oops."

He cautiously headed down the hall after his wife. For all he knew, she might have figured it out already and be ready to send him to an early grave.

Even with him expecting it, the hallway's abrupt transformation to a foggy marsh was downright creepy.

Distant curses led him towards Jaina. He entered a spooky old willow—a doorway hidden with a holo of such a willow, at least.

From behind and a few feet away, he viewed her arguing with a skeleton. He frowned, listening to it. Something about she'd couldn't have possibly heard her mother's ghost 'cause her mother wasn't dead yet. And she didn't want to hear nil about the hall being haunted.

He shook his head, recognizing every single detail. He'd helped program the in-depth holo, after all.

Jag sighed. "Jaina—"

She whipped around. He screamed.

She wore a corpse mask.

Ok so here we go...

It's my first ever fic ( those to small letters don't count ) and I hope you will like it happy

***************************************************

This is how it ends

A blood-curdling scream pierced the night, and everyone in the room froze.

Jag moved a little bit in his not to comfortable chair and gave Jaina an asking look, if she knew what caused that scream. She calmed him down with a soft touch of Force. Her warming thoughts made him feel better, so he turned his attention to three young officers from the GFFA Military Force, that were standing on the other side of his desk. From their faces he could read, that this was the last place they would like to be in this Galaxy. But what have made them so scared , Jag thought in his mind. They are part of the most experienced and trained commandos unit the Military have. Or rather I should say, had.

They were transferred to Mrivalist two weeks ago, when General Mrevuss has not responded with the weekly report. The Galactic Senate decided to send a reckoning team to find out, what was happening on the planets surface. The Senate also has sent a group of senators as observers. Jag was one of them. As the Chiss liaison he was committed, by his superiors, to find out what was going on, since the planet was only few systems away from Chiss Empire. He wasn’t happy, to say the least, that he has to end his vacation so quickly. Especially, that it was his first time in few months, that he could spend some time with Jaina. When he told her about his mission, she had a talk with the Jedi Council and asked them, if she could be assigned to the Galactic Alliance mission to Mrivalist. The Council Members were not to pleased with her request, but with a little help of her uncle and Kyp, she has been given the permission to take part as the Jedi Ambassador.

After two days of travel, on board of Star Destroyer Mericon , the expedition reach their goal. Mrivalist was just another planet, where finding a place without a tree was a miracle. The trees weren’t very tall, but at least they gave some rest from the burning sun. For two weeks they haven’t found any live forms and there haven’t been any signals from Frag base. This was nothing special for the Senators but Jag and Jaina knew that something isn’t right. One day Jaina told Jag that she can’t sense anything in this jungle.

After five days of long walk in a foggy weather, senators have made a decision to take three day brake. The Ghost team , the most famous Commandos unit that GFFA had, was suppose to make a reckon mission to a small village, which were suppose to be ten kilometers away from thir camp. It was suppose to be a simple and easy mission, after which they were ordered to return to camp.

They were , Jag thought. He was haunted by weird feeling that something will happen but he didn’t know what. And that made him uncomfortable. Jaina saw that Jag has stiffen in last few minutes and this meant that he was troubled by something. To make him less stressed she spoke to one of the officers.

“What has happened to the Ghost team ? “

“ It was a trap, sir “ answered the youngest of the three “We entered the village as we were ordered and we found 3 skeletons in the first building. They looked like human skeletons, so the commander of our unit told us to look for some other bodies” he stopped for a moment. His hands were shaking. This situation was nowhere near to what he was thought in Academy. He didn't know what to do.

“ And what did you find there? “ asked Jag. His voice calmed his speaker.

“ We found a hole in the middle of village. It looked like a grave, so Jack and Depuq, our medics, decided to take some earth and body proofs for examination. This is when everything begun. They were everywhere. They attacked as from ground and from sky. We wanted to defend are selves, but it was to late.”

The last words sounded so creepy, that Jaina caught Jag’s hand.

“ Have you seen the attackers? “ she asked with fear in here voice.

“ Yes. They looked like a giant insects. They were attacking quickly and deadly. I would even say that they were thinking like humans and they knew, how we would react to they’re offensive. “

Those words have hit Jag. They knew how we would react. His brain was analyzing this line, when the terrible truth hit him.

“ How did you manage to escape? “ he asked. Jaina started to really get worried, because she never have felt Jag to be so nervous and worried before.

“ We managed to kill few of those insects and we run to the camp immediately as fast as we can and… “ he didn’t end his sentence, when Jag suddenly got up from his chair and run to the nearby door. He could promise that he saw a move outside the window. He opened the door and looked outside. It was quiet. Too quiet. He walked out and went to the senators tent which was 30 meters from the place he was. He was almost running towards, it when suddenly he felt a sharp pain in his right leg. He’s instinct told him to react, so he jumped forward and rolled over. In meanwhile, he managed to grab his blaster and now he was ready to attack. But to his surprise, there was nobody there. He looked around and the only person he saw, was Jaina, who run quickly towards him with her lightsaber ignited. When she reached him, he was already on his feet looking at his right leg. The wound, that he saw, was far beyond his worst nightmares. There was a big hole in his groin, from which blood was streaming on the ground. And then after the adrenaline has vanished he felt it. The pain was so terrible, that Jag almost fall on his back. Thankfully Jaina managed to catch him in time. She helped him to reach the medic tent and then she went to the communication center. After talking with the Mericon commanding officer she, walked back to the medic tent were Jag was lying. She managed somehow to hide her shock and fear, when she saw Jag’s wound. She thought in the first place, that it had been nothing serious, but now she was really scared. His leg looked like if someone has made just a contest of how far can the vibroblade go into human’s leg. Jag masked his pain very well but Jaina could feel it threw the Force, that he was suffering. She took a small box and have putted it near Jag’s bed. Before she sat down on it she leaned towards Jag and kissed him softly on the lips. After a moment Jag turned his head left and looked into Jaina’s eyes. Then he said.

“ Have you alarmed the base? “

“ Yes, I have. I also called Mericon and asked them to send a shuttle to pick us up” she answered calmly.

“ Good. Ouch. I really need to change my job.” He said it with a small smile on his face.

“ Are you turning into a softy, Fel” Jaina teased him

“ Only when I’m with you” he responded with a smile and he started to close the distance between them, when suddenly a scared soldier run into the tent.

“ I’m sorry to disturb you , Sir, but we are under attack.”

“ How many?” Jag already knew the answer

“ Hundreds”

“ How long can we stop them” Jag asked him in a tone, like he didn’t really want to know the answer.

“ Two maybe three hours”

“ Right. Go to the communication center and tell them to call for back up from Mericon immediately”

“ Yes, sir”

The soldier run out the tent and Jaina was also on her feet, ready to go and fight. She was almost outside the tent when she felt Jag. She turned around and saw that Jag was standing behind her. The grim on his face was saying everything.

“ What are you doing Jag?” her words were a little to harsh.

“ Well you don’t expect that I will lay down in bed and hear all this howling “

“ Yes, that’s what I have expected to … “

She didn’t end her line when a huge insect passed the defensive line and was 6 meters from them. Jaina instinctively reached for her lightsaber and she was horrified when she hasn’t found it. She looked around for her weapon and she found it. It was lying near the hospital bed, in which Jag was lying few minutes ago. Quickly she reached for it with the Force, but it was to late. Alien was ready to make a finally blow. His to big and sharp front legs were high in the air and they started to fall down on Jaina hopeless body. Jaina knew it was over. She will die and she will get killed by a giant insect. She closed her eyes and waited for the pain but it never happened. She felt that something is wrong. She opened her eyes and she saw that the creature was lying flat on the grass. She was shocked and angry. Very angry. Then she saw him with his blaster still targeting the creature. He throw her lightsaber and she caught it easily.

“ I must say that you look beautiful when you look at me this way”

“ Try your luck, Fel, and you might never leave that hospital bed again” Her anger had slowly faded away and she smiled towards him.

“ Thanks, Jag “

“ No problem. You know I couldn’t allow this insect to make any harm to you. I wouldn’t like to tell your father that… “ He didn’t manage to end his line when suddenly one the insects leg hit Jaina’s shoulder, making a big hole in it.
