Mischief & Mistletoe

Abby &
MiaTieska
Timeframe:
post-NJO, during Fête Week
Characters:
Han Solo, Solos, Skywalkers, Antilles, Calrissians, Kyp, Jag, Tahiri, Tenel Ka
Genre:
Festive mischief, romance [AU but not necessarily at the time it was written]

Notes:
Abby’s posting the first part, MiaTieska will be posting the second – using our own names and alternating posts.
Summary:
The Solos throw a Fête Week party from their new home on Denon, the first such celebration after the end of the war, with family and friends. Have some holiday fun, Star Wars style.
*NOTE* - This is an older story long completed, that
MiaTieska
and I co-wrote. I thought I would unlock it for some holiday reading. Enjoy!*
Part One
*~*
Red velvet ribbons, trimmed at the corners with clusters of deep green leaves with tiny scarlet berries, wreathed the spacious entry way. The gold leaf pattern covering the walls reflected the vibrant, festive colours of both the ribbons and the numerous matching bows adorning the six elaborate light sconces. The light from the fixtures had been dimmed, and a cluster of scented candles set atop a table in the corner cast a warm, flickering glow over the entire room.
The sight of the room brought a nostalgic smile to the face of Han Solo, as he thought back to years past when similar decorations had dressed up a former home. Though those days usually seemed to belong to another lifetime entirely, for this evening at least, they didn’t feel so far away.
“So who decorated, Han?”
Out of the corner of his eye, Han caught a glimpse of a head of dark curls and a deep green shirt, turning his head to the left as Kyp Durron stepped up beside him. “Jaina and Jacen did,” he replied, smiling at the younger man. “Just like they used to.”
Kyp chuckled. “They did a better job this year than the last time I celebrated Fête Week with you Solos.”
“Well I hope so,” Han replied. “They were what, ten or eleven that year?”
“Sounds about right.” Kyp agreed.
The chime sounded, and Han moved toward the door, pressing the button on the security panel to open it.
A small, red-gold blur rushed through the door and attached itself to Han’s leg, while his parents shared an amused chuckle in the doorway. Han reached down and lifted his three-year-old nephew into his arms.
“Unckie Han!” Ben exclaimed, his blue eyes bright and wide and shining with excitement.
“Hey there Bennie,” Han replied, ruffling the boy’s hair while he made a protesting face. “You excited about the Fête Elf coming?”
“Elf!” Ben exclaimed, grinning widely. “Gonna get a X-wing!”
As he started making X-wing battle sounds, Han set Ben down. The toddler rushed past Kyp – nearly running into the Jedi Master – and into the main house, likely in search of someone to pay attention to him. Han turned to his brother- and sister-in-law, now standing inside with the door closed.
“Skywalker, party of three,” Luke said, throwing Han his farmboy grin while Mara rolled her eyes out of principle. “How are you, Han?”
The two men met in a one-arm embrace. “Doin’ pretty good,” Han replied, glancing towards Mara, “And that’s three and a half, kid.”
Luke and Mara looked at each other in surprise. “How did . . .?” Mara asked.
Behind them, Artoo uttered a startled twitter and rolled hurriedly from the entry. Han smirked. “Oh, a little droid told me.”
Mara scowled after the droid, muttering under her breath about restraining bolts and memory wipes.
“Congrats, you two,” Han added.
“Yes,” agreed Kyp.
“Congrats on what?” a voice interrupted. The four of them turned to see Wedge Antilles poking his head through the door into the hallway.
“Wedge!” Luke exclaimed, coming forward to embrace his old friend. The two men instantly lapsed into an intense conversation, disappearing into the hallway.
Mara shook her head, but then smiled wryly at Han. “Well, if you’ll excuse me,
we
are hungry, and need to find a snack.”
Han chuckled as Mara headed off toward the kitchen.
“Great,” Kyp muttered, once Mara was out of ear shot. “Just what I need.
Pregnant
Mara Jade . . .”
“It ain’t
that
bad, kid,”
“Han, she hates me at the best of times,” Kyp explained, “and there’s no way adding hormones to the mixture can be a good thing.”
Han laughed and clapped the younger man on the back. “I feel sorry for your future wife, you know that?”
Kyp smirked. “Yeah, yeah.”
The security panel beeped, and a moment later the door slid open, revealing Jacen Solo and a woman shrouded in a dark, woollen coat. Her face was hidden by the hood of the coat, though a curl of red hair peeked out from the darkness. A shake of her head dislodged the hood, and Han was not surprised to find Tenel Ka, daughter of a Dathomiri warrior, Queen of the 63 systems of the Hapes Consortium.
“Hey Dad,” Jacen greeted, leading Tenel Ka inside with a hand at the small of her back.
Han observed the gesture quietly, allowing his son to draw him into a hug.
“Jacen,” he said, ruffling his grown son’s hair as he had done with young Ben.
Jacen flushed slightly as he smoothed his wavy hair. “Dad,” he protested. Beside him, Tenel Ka suppressed a smile, bringing her slender-fingered hand up to cover her lips. Jacen turned to her and grinned a funny little smile, shrugging his shoulders.
Han watched as the two of them shared a look and a smile. “Tenel Ka, glad you could make it.”
The warrior queen turned away from Jacen and nodded regally, but then smiled and embraced Han with her lone, muscular arm. “It was my pleasure to come, Han,” she said as she pulled away. “I would not have missed this even if pirates had stolen half of the fleet.”
“The full fleet, maybe,” Kyp jibed, reaching out to shake Jacen’s hand. “Nice to see you, Tenel Ka.”
“And you as well, Kyp,” she replied, pulling him into a brief hug as well. “Has Jaina arrived?”
Something flickered in the Jedi Master’s eyes, which Han did not fail to notice. “Not yet,” he answered.
Han stepped back as Jacen and Tenel Ka, standing side by side, Jacen’s hand resting at her far shoulder, arm draped loosely behind her, continued to speak with Kyp, watching the two of them closely. He had suspected for some time that something deeper than friendship had begun between the two childhood companions, and their concurrent arrival helped to further that theory.
As the suspected couple moved from the entry into the hallway, Lando entered, two snifters in hand. He passed one to Kyp on his way through and handed the other to Han.
“I figured the doorman might like a drink,” the dark-skinned man explained, grinning infectiously as he pulled his own snifter from a pocket on the inside of his scarlet shimmersilk cloak. “To times of peace and togetherness,” he announced, holding out the glass.
The three men clinked their snifters and took a drink, savouring the divine taste of authentic, pre-invasion Corellian Brandy.
Lando disappeared once more into the house as the chime sounded once again. Kyp looked toward the closed door and quirked his mouth into an amused smile. “I’ll get it, Han.”
Han stepped back to allow the younger man to open the door, which slid aside to reveal the distinguished form of Colonel Jagged Fel, dressed casually in a dark green sweater and black, civilian-style trousers. Coming up the steps behind him was a petite blond woman. He started to ask Jag about his companion when the woman burst through the doorway and threw her arms around Han’s waist. It took him a moment to realize that the gold-flecked green eyes grinning up at him belonged to Tahiri Veila.
“Happy Fête Week, Han.” she greeted. Jag stepped up behind her and slid her knee-length coat off her shoulders, revealing a deep green gown of fine shimmersilk, which clung to her toned figure in such a way that Han felt his sense of fatherly protectiveness flare.
“When did you grow up?” he asked her, glancing behind her. “And what are you doing with this flyboy?”
Tahiri turned around to look at Jag and grinned. “We landed at the same time.” she replied.
“I ran into her at the space port,” Jag elaborated, shaking first Kyp’s and then Han’s hand.
“Ran
over
me, you mean,” Tahiri corrected, poking him in the side with her finger.
“Oh I did not,” Jag replied, poking her back. “I cannot be blamed for your lack of attentiveness to your surroundings.”
Tahiri made a face at his wording, then hooked her arm through his and dragged him after her into the main house. “Whatever, flyboy.”
Kyp and Han exchanged a look.
“Well that was interesting,” Kyp remarked.
Han nodded his agreement, certain that he and Kyp were thinking the same thing. “Certainly was,” he said. “So, just waiting on Jaina.”
The expression on Kyp’s face changed subtly at the mention of Han’s daughter, though of course the older man noticed. He moved away from Kyp to close the door, when the sound of a voice halted his motion.
“Dad, wait!” called Jaina as she dashed up the stairs far more stably than he would have thought the heeled shoes she was wearing could have allowed.
“There you are, princess,” he greeted, pulling his daughter into his arms and placing a kiss on the top of her head.
Jaina grinned, and then turned to look at Kyp. Her smile brightened, and she pulled out of her father’s embrace to stand before Kyp. “Long time no see,” she said, looking up at him.
“Glad I could make it,” Kyp answered. “Good to see you, Jay.”
She glanced down briefly, then looked back up. “Well, do I get a hug?”
Kyp’s arms enfolded her before she had finished speaking. “Of course, Jay.”
Han stifled another grin as he closed and secured the doorway, and moved past his friend and his daughter, trying not to look too closely at the gown Jaina was wearing as Kyp helped her off with her coat, or the look on Kyp’s face, either.
“See you two inside,” he said as he entered the hallway, looking back once and shaking his head at the two of them before wandering off toward the sitting room.
Suddenly, this seemed an evening full of possibilities.

Sooooooo looking forward to this story!!
I feel especially privileged to have already read part of it.
Han's protectiveness is great. Now, why would he be protective of Tahiri, and turn a blind eye to Kyp and Jaina, hmm?

Yeah, a new K/J on Christmas day!
What a great beginning to a fun story! I wonder who's gonna get caught under the mistletoe
And who might have too much punch. And a raging hormone Mara will add some fire to the story! Can't wait for more!

Very, very nice.
I really like how you write Kyp and Jaina, the subtle interactions between them, and how Han is oh-so-perceptive of things
Love it! Will we be getting more soon?

Sooooooo looking forward to this story!!
- me too!
I feel especially privileged to have already read part of it.
- as you well should!
Han's protectiveness is great. Now, why would he be protective of Tahiri, and turn a blind eye to Kyp and Jaina, hmm?
- I think it's a combination of a)when did little Tahiri turn into a woman?, b)whoa she's too young to be wearing that dress (he thinks), and c) he's resigned himself to the fact that Jaina does wear *that* type of dress, like it or not
Oh, and maybe he likes the thought of a K/J??
Heeee . . .

Huh, niiice. Pregnant Mara. Not what I expected, definitely.
- me either, but when Luke said "Party of three", Han pretty much wrote himself saying "three and a half". Guess it was Han's idea . . .

It's great what ideas you can come up with when brainstorming with somebody else.
I wonder who's gonna get caught under the mistletoe

And who might have too much punch.

- yay hormonal Mara, lol. Can't wait to give you more (story, not Mara)

Yay, glad you all like it!
I do apologize, especially to Abby -- I would've had the next chapter done earlier, but my Christmas started to get really crappy around 4 this afternoon and didn't let up til about midnight. Soooo crappiness was not inducive to writing today. At least not while trying to write mischievious Han.
I need to reply to everyone, but! Bed calls. Next part should be posted in the morning (like, in six or seven hours) or early afternoon.
Though, Abby, I think I may have gotten confused on the sections again and which ones I'm writing and which ones you're writing...LOL I'll talk to you tomorrow. Too much candy and drama today for me to be thinking straight at almost 4 in the morning.
Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays everyone!

Suddenly, this seemed an evening full of possibilities.
Actually the evening seems to be more full of mischief if you ask me, or the possibilty of mischief!
Wonderful stuff. Made me smile - looks like it's going to be a proper holiday story and I'd appreciate one of those right now!!
So much fun

Like...how about now?
Yay, it's finally here! A bit short, but hope you like it.
Part 2
~~~~
As Han entered the sitting room, he felt a feeling of content spread through him. The war was over, and now it was time to finally relax and enjoy being with his family and friends. His attention was caught by Luke, Wedge, and Lando who were standing next to the refreshment table. They were animatedly discussing what sounded suspiciously like old Rebellion stories. Han grinned as he made his way over to them.
"Still living in the old glory days, huh?" he teased.
The other men chuckled. "You do it just as much as we do, Han," Wedge said.
Lando glanced around the room. "You had a really good turn out."
"We sure did. Leia and I were thrilled everyone could make it."
"Where is my sister, anyway?" Luke asked.
"In the kitchen, making more candies and sweets, where else?" He shook his head. "I don't think she's had this much fun during Fete Week for years."
"Tendra's having a blast with her, I'm sure. When we arrived she went straight to the kitchen and I haven't seen her since." Lando fiddled with some cookies before finally picking one off the plate. "Where's Mara, by the way?"
"She's in the kitchen."
Lando looked at Luke with a shocked expression. "You mean to tell me that your wife is in the kitchen, of her own free will?"
Luke chuckled, "Yes, she is." He glanced at Han and Wedge. "She was very hungry."
"You could say that again." Han suppressed a snicker.
Wedge tried to hide a smile and failed, so he raised his glass to his lips and quickly drank some champagne.
"Is there something I'm missing?" Lando looked back and forth between them.
"You know how we've been saying we wish we had a little brother or sister for Ben?" Luke started slowly.
Lando nodded, then froze. "Wait, you mean to tell me..."
"Yup." Luke grinned so wide Han thought it would split his face.
"Congratulations!" Lando said, grinning as well, reaching out to hug his old friend.
"Just keep the nieces and nephews coming." Han clapped Luke on the shoulder.
"And what about your own children?" Luke countered. "I'm pretty sure Leia is anxious for some grandchildren. And Ben's little sister or brother could use some kids his age. He's a good kid, but he has so much energy."
Han opened his mouth to respond, but a loud, young voice cut straight to his eardrums.
"Dadddyyy!!!! Daddy! Unckie Han!"
They all turned to see Ben tearing across the sitting room to them. "Ben, don't yell. What is it?" Luke asked, obviously concerned.
Dana:
Sooooooo looking forward to this story!!
-- *g* Yup, as Abby said, so are we. It makes me giggle when I work on it and when we discuss it.
Han's protectiveness is great. Now, why would he be protective of Tahiri, and turn a blind eye to Kyp and Jaina, hmm?
-- Haha. Personally, I think it may have been because 1) he was already feeling protective cause of Tahiri, wouldn't take much else to set him off.
2) Jaina's his daughter -- and if he'd actually stayed to look at what she was wearing, he would've really flown off the handle then.
That's just my theory, anyway.
Elena:
Cute, in a sugary-sweet, rot-my-teeth-out kinda way.
-- Bwaha. We live to serve!
Arina:
Han... well, can there be anything wrong with Han, really?
-- LOL! I believe Leia just said "yes."
...am anxiously waiting for more K/J.
-- Oh, it's coming...it's definitely coming...
GoddessJainaSoloFel:
What a great beginning to a fun story! I wonder who's gonna get caught under the mistletoe
-- Hehehe. Maybe, maybe not. Glad you like the story!
And who might have too much punch. And a raging hormone Mara will add some fire to the story!
-- LOLOL!! Abby, she's giving me some ideas!
Enelya_Sol:
Yay! I'm glad I spammed you with the link.
Oh just wait to see what the party will bring.
Deneveon:
I really like how you write Kyp and Jaina, the subtle interactions between them, and how Han is oh-so-perceptive of things
-- LOL. When we first started planning it we could just see Han being mischievious and plotting things and setting things up. It just fits him so well!
Love it! Will we be getting more soon?
-- Yup.
We hope to finish by New Year's, if not sooner. Luckily, no school this week. Whew.
Oh, and Merry Christmas!
-- Merry Christmas!
Abby:
I think it's a combination of a)when did little Tahiri turn into a woman?, b)whoa she's too young to be wearing that dress (he thinks), and c) he's resigned himself to the fact that Jaina does wear *that* type of dress, like it or not wink Oh, and maybe he likes the thought of a K/J??
-- Oh, I like your explanation. And yeah, Han says Tahiri is not old enough!
mistletoe? Who said anything about mistletoe?
-- LOLOLOL. Our title. Oops. Did we give something away?
yay hormonal Mara, lol. Can't wait to give you more (story, not Mara)
-- But hormonal Mara would be fun! Come on!
Ooooooooh I just got ideas for my last two sections.
I think you'll find Han doing a lot of percepting (I'm sure that's not even a word) as the story continues.
-- Muahaha. Perceptive Han is fun!
aww, *HUGS* - and no apologies necessary. It's Fête Week, so we have some time happy Besides, I'm sure all of us would rather have you take your time than rush your writing
-- Aw thank you. *hugs* but.... rushed writing... especially when I'm on drugs... it's so fun....
Kazzy:
Wonderful stuff. Made me smile - looks like it's going to be a proper holiday story and I'd appreciate one of those right now!!
-- Yay! I'm so glad we could help you smile. And we'll do our best to do a good holidary story.
Cati:
Abby, you are the best at writing Ben. <3 Obviously.
-- She is! Me, I just imagine my three year old terror niece and write her as a boy. ;)
Well, looking very good so far. . . ^_^ Can't wait for more, hehe
-- LOL, too bad this isn't a crack!fic, eh? ;) (Just kidding! Kidding!)
Thank you all for reading!! We hope you enjoy. Hold onto your seats, folks...the evening is just getting underway. ;) Abby will be posting the next chapter soon!
