I borrowed a couple for this story, and for that I apologize ahead of time. You can sue me if you want, but I'm broke. For those of you who read the first installment of this story, you probably have a good idea of what's going on. For those of you who have not read part one already, I would strongly suggest you do so before wading into this. I will try to reiterate some things along the way, but you might be lost for a while. I hope you enjoy this one every bit as much as you did the last one! ~*~Austyn First post!! ----------------------------------------------------------------- Jaina Solo Durron was scared. She strode down the metal corridors of Outbase One, her boots clanging against the floor with a rhythm that matched some internal time. Her gaze shifted calmly, imperiously as she viewed the people milling around her. She nodded to a member of her squadron, tapping her chronometer in a warning that he was going to be late for formations practice if he didn’t hurry. She almost laughed at the chagrined look on the pilots face when he realized he’d been caught in a playful moment by his intimidating squad leader. She continued toward her destination without pause, allowing the smile to slip in when she was out of sight. Nearly all of her new recruits were that way, from Cal, the drooling blond who thought she truly was a deity, to Trasela, whose cool disdain was only off-set by her choice of clothing, or rather, lack there of. Kids. They were all the same. When had she come to think of her recruits as kids? Most weren’t more than three years younger than she was, yet there was an undeniable line that seemed to declare her an adult, and them children only playing the type. Perhaps it was the number of battles she had fought, or the friends that had fallen at her side. Maybe the loves lost, or the painful memories gained. Losing a brother? Gaining a husband? She couldn’t put her finger on it, but it was there. She smiled again, this time a grin that consumed her, infecting even her step. She skipped a little as she rounded a corner, nearly to the conference room where Kyp and General Antilles were. Kyp. She heaved a happy sigh, the grin still on her face. She’d never imagined that she would be married at barely twenty-two, even if she did feel old most mornings. When she and Jacen had been children, she had always joked that he would be the first to marry, and she had managed to convince herself that it would happen. And it did. The surprise came in the meager number of hours he beat her by. A small wave of regret lapped her feet as she thought about the wedding. She had wanted so badly for Jacen and his family to be there, but fate had cruelly dictated, as it often did, that Jacen be on the run while she said her vows. Kyp had held her that night as she cried –cried on their wedding night –for that lost dream. He’d been understanding when she’d whispered that it just wasn’t the same without him. Just as he understood when she cried a few days later when she got the short transmission from Jacen, telling her was safe, and that he and Tenel Ka had gotten married. It didn’t seem fair that the twins had spent a good part of their lives sharing pain, but had to experience the joy apart. But then, no one ever said life was fair. A tendril of Force energy caressed her mind, like a smile or a gentle kiss, bringing her back to the present. She smiled again, returning the action, almost able to see Kyp’s face split into a grin. She loved that man so much it ached sometimes. She would lie awake at night while he slept, his bare chest rising and falling as he breathed, and watch him, wishing for things that were not. She wished the war was over, so she could stop worrying about him each time he walked out the door; so she could relax and think about things like gardens and holodramas and children. She wished Jacen would come home, and Mom and Dad pick a spot near the Academy to settle down after all these years of fighting and running. Despite all these wistful unfulfilled dreams, she was happy. Mom and Dad were safe on Coruscant, using their connections to feed information to the Outbases, occasionally shuttling supplies to Eclipse under various transponder names. Uncle Luke, Aunt Mara and the kids were at Eclipse, collaborating with the Solusars to come up with various escape plans in the event that Eclipses location be discovered. Jaina knew Aunt Mara was itching to do more, but there would be no point in her leaving Eclipse until the Outbases had a more organized plan. At the moment, cooperating with only five squadrons was trying enough. Jacen and his family were hidden somewhere far from the reaches of the Vakrai, away from even the eyes of people like her aunt and Talon Karrde. Jacen’s point had been to keep their location from everyone, even Jaina and their parents. So far, he had been successful. But while she didn’t have her parents, her aunt and uncle, or her twin brother, she did have Kyp. So far, that seemed to be enough. That was what scared her. In the past, every time she had thought she’d found her balance, something got jerked out from under her and she found herself floundering again. Every time she’d ever been happy, something had happened to bring the pain back to the surface. 	Wahoo! I'm so glad to see this! Sounds like everything is very bittersweet for Jaina- I'm glad Kyp's there for her. Can't wait to see where this goes, and where Jacen's been. EDIT: Oh, yeah. 	So, when did Jaina and Kyp get married? The last I remember Jaina had lost her memory and was only just beginning to recover from her ordeal. What gives? Explain pweese! Or am I just having a senior moment and forgetting some major events in the last story. A little clarity would be nice. Good beginning though and I pray for Jaina's sake that she will get to have some happiness before this story is over.
