As Han and Luke watch stunned, Palpatine shoves his doctor aside and lunges for Leia and baby Anakin.

Palpatine: "Surrender? I think not. Skywalker blood runs dark with the Force. I have choosen the child... to inherit the rule of the galaxy!"

Leia (attempting to stop Palpatinme): "Over my dead body!"

As Leia says this, Han takes aim on Palpatine and fires. Luke tries to stop him but he's a split second too late.

Han: "No... over Palpatine's dead body!"

Luke: "Han--wait!"

Han's shot hits home, much to Luke's horror. Han is a little surprised by Luke's reaction, thinking he'd be pleased Palpatine will soon be around no more to threaten the galaxy. Luke begins moving towards the fallen and dieing Emperor just as he begins to transfer his spirit to the infant.

Han: "Got him! What the matter Luke? Don't you think the time for Jedi Battle-Etiquette is over?"

Palpatine (with his dieing breaths): "Unnh... the Corellian has killed me... I feel it... I am done... it is time... to enter the child... as I promised--"

Palpatine's spirit becomes pure energy as it launches itself at Leia and Anakin, much to Han's surprise and terror. Han realizes all to late why Luke didn't want him to kill him.

Palpatine's spirit:"Who will you kill non, Han Solo? Your own son?"

Unnoticed, the disabled King of Ganath regains mental control of his prosthetic repulsors-- and lunges out for Han and Leia's child! Brand grabs Anakin just before Palpatine can enter his body.

Luke:"Brand is trying to shield Anakin with the light side of the Force"

But Leia sneses the disembodied spirit of the Emperor is about to enter the tiny body.

Leia (terrorified):"Nooo! Give me Anakin... now!"

Empatojayos Brand does as Leia commands, though it becomes apparent that not only is he being put under a great strain to keep Palpatine within him, but he is also dieing. Luke kneels beside the dieing Jedi after he hands Leia her baby and settles to the floor.

Leia (concerned for her childs safety):"My child! The Emperor... did he--?"

Brand:"I have the Emperor. He is in me. I am holding him. His spirit is my prisoner. He is not at all as he seemed... There is tremendous rage in him...yes... But also boundless despair. I am being eaten alive by darkness!"

Luke (holding the dieing Jedi in an effort to comfort him and ease his pain):"More than anything the Emperor fears obliteration in the dark side. Hold to the light, Brand... Hold to the light! We have won!"

Palpatine speaks through Brand for the first and last time. But Brand gets the last words in.

Palpatine:"You think you have won? If I am annihilated, my curse will be upon Skywalker blood forever!"

Brand (dieing):"Luke... Palaptine will die with me. He will never return. The Force--and all the Jedi who went before us... will make sure of that. Good-bye, my friend--"

With that, Empatjayos Brand, Jedi Knight nearly killed by Vader during the purge, King of Ganath, and one of the first Jedi of Luke's new Jedi order, becomes one with the Force and carries Palpatine's spirit with him to the other side. All who watch his passing are deeply saddened at the loss of this great hero.
