	I couldn't find this in either the FAQ's or in other threads, so I thought I'd just ask. In what book or comic did Luke declare himself a Jedi Master? I've read the many of the books & comics, but missed this event somewhere along the way. I always thought it odd that Luke was a Jedi Master in the Jedi Search, espically since he's only been a Jedi for about ten years. Thanks. -----signature----- "Oh bugger." -- Spike

	He did this sometime between TTT and DE. It's never been chronicled. It's true, it wasn't much time. But, think about it this way...he was the greatest living Jedi, and he'd faced down Darth Vader, the Emperor, the Dathomiri Witches, and Joruus C'boath by this time. He'd pretty much had a hand in taking down every powerful Darksider he knew about. It may have been too soon, but you can see how he could legitimately say he was a Jedi Master.

	I don't think that Luke "declared himself" a Master. I think that after TTT, the people he knew started calling him Master Skywalker. He had also begun to train Leia at that time.

	No, she's not. IMO, Luke deserved the title. He'd done more in less time for the Force than the PT-era Jedi did in their entire careers. -----signature----- Only a Prime can defeat Vader and his Emperor.

	How the heck is Leia not a Jedi? It SAYS she is a Jedi. I admit that really only Timothy Zahn gives her decent Force abilities. And the duel against Luke where she wins is pure CRAP (Assault at Corellia), but she IS a Jedi. We know from the OR and Cilghal, that Jedi specialize in many different aspects of the Force. Leia is a diplomat, and uses her Force training there (not to influence, just to calm and seek reason). Dorsk 82 had crap for Force Sensitivity, yet he is still a Jedi. You don't have to run around with 2 lightsabers a blazin' shooting force nukes from your eyeballs in order to be a Jedi. She never went to the academy formally, but neither did Mara really and (I still don't buy this...) she's a Jedi Master after like 3 years on the damn job! -----signature----- EmpressPalpatine: i preobly should just say. 	I've been wondering similar things xie. I've only read SW books in the NJO (and only since Conquest), but I know the gist of the rest of the EU. I was wondering about Mara Jade. I've heard that she is not particularly strong in the force, so what gives? She wasn't formerly trained by anyone, right? Not even Palpy. From what I know (which actually may be nothing) it sounds like she's a Master just because she's married to Luke. I've noticed that the three masters (are there others?), Luke, Kyp, and Mara have all dangled a little too close to the Dark Side than I think you may would want in the three highest ranking members of the Order. Also I was wondering if Leia was ever going to be trained further in the future? I know now is not really the time since Luke (her most likely master) and she are both very busy in the NJO. I can see them not improving Leia's abilities, since it creates a more interesting approach to have a "regular person" who is force sensitive, rather than having a "true" Jedi doing "regular people stuff." Leia, the Jedi buttkicker, and Han, the smuggling smoothtalker. Even at their age, it's the greatest combo the galaxy has ever known. Aren't there 4 levels of the Jedi Order: 1. Master - Yoda & Mace 2. Knight - every other Jedi we've seen (Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon, etc.) 3. Padawan - adolescent training to be a Knight, direct apprentice to a Knight 4. name? (for some reason I wanna say tadpole) - it's what the little kids are called before they go 1-on-1 with a Knight. I would say that technically, Leia is a Jedi. But she really falls (in terms of development) at the level of little children. She understands the force, but she's not skilled in its ways enough for me to call her a Jedi Knight. Also, in order to further extend the windiness of this post, I think they should restart the Council. I see no harm in it, except it may restrict the lightning-fast ability of the Jedi to respond to a problem. But considering that now Kyp & Luke are under the same roof, it doesn't matter now. I think they should restart the council. But who would go on it other than Kyp, Mara, and Luke. 	Actually, it was Luke that declared himself Master. In VotF, that's one of Mara's criticisms of him, and he agrees. As for Mara's original low level of Force ability to her relatively short trek to Master...well, she breaks through the barrier to accessing full Force ability during VotF. I believe Palpatine had held her back in terms of her ability all of her years in his service. I think she kept those barriers up herself for some reason or another until VotF. I think she gained Masterhood so quickly after reaching knighthood for one of two reasons. Either it's because of the unique psychic bond she shares with Luke, giving her access to more experience than she would be able to have normally; or, because she's sleeping with the boss.

	Actually, Chiss_Man, when Luke appears for the first time in DE, he is referred to as a Jedi Master, insinuating that he had "attained" that rank sometime between TTT and DE.

I think she was made master because of the FOce bond during VotF, Her almost 3 decades of force experiance, and the fact that there were so many padawans in need of masters that some Jedi that wouldn't have, got elevated to master.(Kyp anyone?) -----signature----- I like otters.
