I'm by far not close to being "out of touch" with the latest tech, but I just don't get the whole TXTing thing. I see its usefulness as an unobtrusive way to send a short msg when no further communication is required. You need more than that, you have a phone, talk into it. I'm sorry but no one, not even the self-important MBAs are so busy, so in need of multi-tasking, or so ADD, that they can't take 2 minutes to have a less costly, more efficient voice conversation.

    Whew!

Now you kids get off of my lawn!

I dunno... Largely, because when you get right down to it, Star Wars isn't SciFi, it's Fantasy. So I have no problem with it not being the top SciFi film out there...

I think ToneLoc means that Battlefield Earth should be in the top spot.

Must be careful of online polls, especially when tied to the advertising of the IMDB.

To answer the question of who is researching this poll,

it seems from reading the posted link, that

    this web site

    http://totalscifionline.com/

is where they are getting their source info,

When I think of best Sci-Fi, I think of the print media,
and so, what book or short story, broke new ground and in a way
    that altered are thinking.

    and then,

did they manage to make it into a good movie.

In Star Wars case, both the story and the movie
basically happened together, with the movie out-weighing by far,
the author ship skills of the script, but then that is how movies scripts work.

I Robot and Asimov in general, is one example of great authorship and lousy movie.

Sometimes, old twilight zone episodes capture our imagination with ground breaking
story and short video of story that work really well.

Also, a good story, can have a weak book and a weak movie/video/

I would like to include one of my favorite plays, as a great
    ground breaking pc of Sci-Fi..............R.U.R.

and I agree with Mercsailor, Star Wars, is not exactly pure Sci-Fi,

though, I think elements of "The Force" and its connection to a light sabre,
bring us into the world of Sci-Fi.

Hopefully, this will satisfy TaunTaun's request for me to comment:)
