The press release does say that Lucas will serve as Creative Consultant for the next filmS. I don't know what that means. I still have a bad feeling about this. Disney is not known for its good sequels...

Disney has clarified that they plan to release a new feature Star Wars film every 2 to 3 years, past Episodes 7, 8, and 9.

Well Lucas did say he was "getting out of the business" didn't he?

I guess none of us realised what this actually meant.

    From the above linked article:
..."extensive and detailed" treatment, I guess Lucas has an idea after all?

Nothing good can come of this...

It DOES depend on what type of films they plan on doing. For all we know it could be animated stuff like the Clone Wars stuff.

I'm uneasy about this announcement... As long as it doesn't affect the Clone Wars then I'll be happy.

I think the obvious plot line to follow for 7-9 would be the Legacy of the Force series. All the OT actors would be age-appropriate for their roles.

7-9 AND more films after that? What on earth could these films possibly be about? What could 7-9 possibly be about?

My only hope is that Lucas stays as a "creative consultant". This could all be good or great if there is a real understanding of the mythological roots and philosophy behind the series.

I know...I read the whole thing. But this is bad: "These films will be released and distributed as part of our target slate of 8-10 live-action films per year, and will augment Disney's already strong creative pipeline for many years to come"

Suddenly it makes sense why they grouped together episodes II and III for a 2013 rerelease date. Episode IV and V in 2014, Episode VI in early 2015 and then VII in 2015.

My mind is still blown... what we needs NOW is an interview with Lucas explaining his thoughts on 7-9, because right now they seem like such a contradiction to all the things he said in the past.

    From the conference call:

There are very little encumberances on making films or exploiting characters.

There are distribution encumbrances on prior Star Wars films made with FOX.

Far fewer encumbrances than with Marvel.

Suddenly people are going to be nostalgic about the prequels, and the SEQUEL trilogy will be the new cool thing to hate. :p

I am nearly 100% that Lucas himself already had a story for EP 7-9, he has mentioned it before in the past. Who is not to say he didn't already have a rough script? Don't forget, Industrial Light & Magic and Skywalker Sound will be included in making the film, which will speed it along all the more. In today's technology it doesn't take so long to make a film anymore. BUT< I do only hope they do this right and not just try to milk it because of the franchise name. This could very well end up being better than the prequels.

I do wonder if they will go in the past or far in the future.......the Skywalker story is all but done now.

It wasn't. I'm just making the assumption that they'd squeeze in the previous movies before an Episode VII. Can't imagine VII releasing before the OT hits theaters.

Lucas has said quite a few times he already had 7-9 thought out. Him being a creative consultant for the upcoming films is frankly proof o that.

Have you not read the hundreds of SW novels? The comics? The games? The possibilities are frankly endless. I would just hope they make something in the Old Republic Era when the Sith are everywhere.

i don't think there would be a greater topic for the internet than where the next Star Wars film would go.
I would love to see Hamill return as Luke Skywalker though^:)^
