Boring? Not at all! I was studying for my test (sadly) and only watched parts of it...The scenes I saw were quite good!

Ok, the Greek team plays more defensive than most other teams, but it was quite effective!
Very impressive to stop all the Zidane's, Nedved's and Ronaldo's!

Everybody thought they were weak but they've given 150% of what everybody expected. The other teams didn't live up to their possibilities and expectations, they only gave 80% (France even lower!) So, tough luck, Greece deserved to win. They presented a great discipline throughout Euro 2004!

I agree with Jaina. Of course I would of liked to see the some of the other teams win but the best team of the games did win and that was Greece.
Now only 2 more years until the World cup. I can't wait! :D

Hang on VaGG - don't take what I said that personally. I love Greece to bits, been there a couple of time - hell, I work in a museum now because of my love of Greek civilization (which started when I was 12). I just don't like the way your team play, I would say the same of *any* team playing defensively. Defending, again, is a valid tactic, but I *personally* find it boring to watch, that's all.

And WhiteHorse, the winning number this week is 17 ;)

    17? k! *takes note* :p

I would like and proudly share with you a hard translation i made of a poster that has been circulating on the portuguese newspapers etc.

Even tough we did not won the cup.. :)

    ------------------------------------------------------

Who has won the Euro 2004?

Has won who got closer to the family, closer to the friends and closer to the neighbour.

Has won who got closer of loosing the voice of so much yelling, of so much singing, of so much supporting the Selection.

Has won who got closer to the TV, closer to the battery radio, closer to the field.

Has won who got closer to the dutch, to the english, to the frenchman, to the check, to the italian, to the swiss, to the bulgarian, to the spaniard, to the greek, to the russian, to the swedish, to the danish, to the german, to the croatian, to the letonian and even to the japanese that has just come to see the matches.

Has won who got closer to the flag, closer to the scarf and closer of crying while singing the national athem.

Has won who saw the most beautifull goal and who knew how to celebrate it.

Has won our Selection that again has dreamed and made us dream.

Ha won the Golden Generation, has won the new generation, has won the country that won a new Selection.

Has won who played, who didn't played and who supported.

Has won who got late to work, who arrived earlier to home and who got out to the street.

Has won who putted a flag in the window, another in the car and who followed the Selection bus.

Has won who knew how to well receive.

Has won who knew how to win.

Has won who knew how to loose.

Has won who got closer to know what is to be portuguese.

    ------------------------------------------------------

just love it. Hope you liked it.

I must say the prortugese are good "losers". in my opinion they didn't lose. there were 16 teams participating and portugal took 2nd! that ain't losing!
yesterday they had a report on tv, showing the portugese and greek people partying together after the final. that's great sportsmanship!
I mean that's what everything is about, right? Having fun, celebrating football/soccer and enjoying life.

    Portugal was a great host!

Thanks! (Even though it was BAAAAAAAAAD
    tournament for Germany LOL )

Yep... There were quite a few portuguese out partying... Not even half of what would have been had we won, of course, but still it was cool to see.

I just got myself dressed with two portuguese flags during the day, and kept them after the match... We could have done better, but it was a good championship, we got further than I ever thought possible, and just didn't achieve that ultimate goal -- but the road there made it worth it, at least. :D

    Thanks a lot Lady_Lucas and Jaina :)

Anyone knows of someone that came to portugal to the euro 2004?

What was their impression? I like to have a sense of how others see us (the good and the bad).

    I was there...

... and I agree with Jaina that the Portugese were great hosts... no doubts there...

    To Nwalme:
I don't how much you know about football...
    My guess is not much...
But even so, your 're entitled to your opinion which I greatly respect...

... and thank you for your kind words on our civilization, really.

What, I don't know much about football just because I find it frustrating when a team plays defensively ? :p
I guess I watch the English premiership too much.
