Yeehaa! Saturday morning and the sun is shining. A beautiful crisp spring morning.

So, good morning Tom, good morning Liz. I guess Casper's not on yet, and Kerryn is still sleeping off last night. ;)

Off for a walk to the village this morning to drop off some library books. Just finished "Shadows of the Empire" which was quite good as far as that sort of thing goes. I'm reading the first of Tery Pratchett's Discworld novels now.

Might grab some breakfast at one of the cafes. Then I've got to get my brother a gift. It was his 24th birthday yesterday, and so I'm off to the folks tonight for a family dinner to celebrate it.

Not sure what to get him. Probably give him a CD and a bottle of rum. He drinks really crap, sweet, locally made black rum - I might try and get him a bottle of something decent like Havana Club.

I'm also wallowing a little today. I found out yesterday one of my all-time favourite muso's has incurable lung cancer. :(

Oh, that is very sad. :(

He is an incredibly gifted musician... we've sampled him more than once. ;) :D

Lung cancer is such a terrible way to go. I only hope he can be relatively pain free and find some joy in the rest of his days. Man, am I glad I quit smoking.

Anyway, it sounds like you have a fun day planned JP. I started to try to read my first EU book recently... I can't remember what it was called, obviously I had a hard time getting into it.

Still. If he can see the funny side, so should we;

"Really, the thing I want is to last through the winter so I don't miss the new James Bond movie," he said Wednesday by phone from his home in West Hollywood. "And I want to wear sweaters, a scarf, the overcoat, the whole thing, like a Winona Ryder movie. And I can be this miserable, classic Walter Matthau invalid. Not that I haven't been that before.... "

[face_laugh]

Here's the title track off his previous album.

You've got an invalid haircut
It hurts when you smile
You'd better get out of town
Before your nickname expires
It's the kingdom of the spiders
It's the empire of the ants
You need a permit to walk around downtown
You need a license to dance

Life'll kill ya
That's what I said
Life'll kill ya
Then you'll be dead
Life'll find ya
Wherever you go
Requiescat in pace
That's all she wrote

From the President of the United States
To the lowliest rock and roll star
The doctor is in and he'll see you now
He don't care who you are
Some get the awful, awful diseases
Some get the knife, some get the gun
Some get to die in their sleep
At the age of a hundred and one

Life'll kill ya
That's what I said
Life'll kill ya
Then you'll be dead
Life'll find ya
Wherever you go
Requiescat in pace
That's all she wrote

Maybe you'll go to heaven
See Uncle Al and Uncle Lou
Maybe you'll be reincarnated
Maybe that stuff's true
If you were good
Maybe you'll come back as someone nice
And if you were bad
Maybe you'll have to pay the price

Life'll kill ya
That's what I said
Life'll kill ya
Then you'll be dead
Life'll find ya
Wherever you go
Requiescat in pace
That's all she wrote

If there's anybody out there reading, I'll probably start up a Zevon thread in YJCC when I exit here around noon.

And if you're wondering who the hell this guy is, you may be familiar with his songs Werewolves of London, Excitable Boy and Lawyers, Guns & Money.

There's an MP3 on his website of one of his latest songs, it's typical of his style;
THE NEW SONG BY WARREN ZEVON AND CARL HIAASEN- BASKETCASE

Oh, all his songs are like that Liz. :D

If you want some good lyrical reading, scan through this webpage.

Beware that some songs may include profanities. ;)

Tom. What have you sampled of his?

It's a bit embarrassing but I actually don't know the names of songs or anything. At our studio we have thousands of records, and we usually just sample things sort of at random, then manipulate the sounds on our computer.

I do know that we've mostly sampled stuff off of the "Excitable Boy" LP...

LOL. Fair enough. That album's great.

My favourite is probably "Learning to Flinch", a live album. I saw him in New Zealand on that tour, he played solo, acoustic but it was anything but an "unplugged" type show. A couple of the tracks from the gig I was at made the album too :D

Awesome!

I'll have to check that one out, I don't think I've ever heard anything that he's done in the 90's or later.

Oh yeah. IMHO all terminal musicians should do this;

Zevon received the news last month and is spending time with his children and has begun writing and recording as many songs as possible in the weeks that lie ahead. He's in the recording studio next week.
Next week, though, Zevon plans to be in the recording studio. Long known as a methodical, less-than-prolific artist, Zevon is now in a different gear.

"I've been working frantically," he said. "But you know, imminent doom lowers the bar a bit."

If the trips to the studio are too taxing, Zevon has at his disposal an elaborate nest of recording gear set up within feet of his bed. "That's thanks to Danny Goldberg," he said, a nod to the chief of Zevon's label, Artemis Records. "He is the absolute best."

Zevon declined to offer any hints about the new songs, but he said fans should not anticipate material of moist eyes or long, distant stares. "You needn't look for a great deal more of piety. I have a little mischief in mind."

OK, I gotta head out for a couple of hours. I see we have until 5:30 board time to remain intrusive, so hopefully I can pop back in to wish the three of you all the best for the next few days of the game, and congratulate you for making it this far. ;)

Ciao.

Oh, one more question for the housemates. Would you ever consider partaking in this sort of game again in the future? or is once quite enough?

Oooh. I think I have about 10 minutes up my sleeve til the 24 hour intrusion is over. :D

Casper, Tom and Kerryn - best of luck for your remaining time in the house.

I thank you all for the amusement you (and your ousted bedfellows) have given me over the last few months, and have enjoyed getting to know you all a lot better, in a pseudo voyeristic way.

// stands. claps //

See you on the other side...

Sure I would. Of course there's no way I could guarantee that I would ever be able to devote as much time to a game of this sort as I was able to for this one... but I would do it, although I highly doubt that the experience could top this one.

Unless of course Meg, Kerryn, and Casper did it with me. :D

Thanks jp! Oh, and in answer to your question, I don't think so. I absolutely loved doing this, but it is very exhausting. Maybe if there's enough time between games, but the game becomes too emotional at times and it's hard not to just "switch off."
