They're not anymore? Cause that's pretty much the only trick I got.

Oh I agree but as we can clearly see in the EU especially on the Del Rey side most do not. Seriously have the even created one significant non white human? Because I a sure as heck cannot name one. Not to mention editorial telling us everything is just fine.

You can still use them if you wish, but for professional websites, you're advised to not use them and do everything in CSS. Tables don't work very well with mobile browsers, apparently.

Two things about this most recent episode struck me as worthy for discussion in this thread:

    1) the Tholothian girl had some blue markings around the base of her neck. I wonder if that is supposed to be their natural skin coloration now that they have been retoconned to another species. Also, she never took off her headdress, even in disguise, which makes me even more suspicious that someone thought the headdress was actually part of their head.

    2) The dug in this episode looked really different from most other dugs: skip color, mustache tentacle size, leg length...I wonder if he is of a different dug ethnicity? Either way, always nice to see aliens with some variety in their appearances instead of being copy and pastes of on another.

Going through a number of Gand images, there's variations in carapace color, eye color, and even head structure and number of fingers. Two subspecies are documented, with sources describing different races. For Rodians, their depictions differ, as well. Snout length and width, hair or none; size, color, and density of spines; presence of facial spines, variations in skin coloration... However, no races or subspecies have been documented in any source, yet.

I find it interesting that 'we' have now had two different threads dicsussing having gay or lesbian characters in Star Wars Episode 7 locked in the forum of the same name.

I'd like to think that this is a wothwhile discussion to have, even with people who do not share my POV. Unfortunatly TF.N does not seem to share that view.

I didn't know there'd been another one, but the one from this past week, frankly, deserved to be closed. I consider myself fortunate that Lit is an environment that can sustain a thread like this. I may reach out to the handful of posters over there that were actually approaching the subject intelligently.

Reading through the first one made me want that 15 minutes of my life back, but the second one was far less obnoxious.

The topic is a good one; catching up on this thread now.

I have the utmost respect for diversity, but I am so irritated by direction the universe is being taken with the likes of TCW and the post-NJO, that I don't pay nearly as much attention to diversity as I would like to. Hence me saying stupid things like I did earlier in this thread.

Thing is it is possible to edit peoples posts and keep the thread on topic. A choice was made to instead kill all discussion.

Again, I don't think it was a matter of specific posts being offensive; the conversation had ceased to be productive. In my opinion.

And they locked it because Mod permission is required to start a new thread on a previously locked topic. Them's the rules.

eta. Although I wish topics like this could be discussed in the Ep. 7 forum w/o all the nastiness. Too much to hope for, I suppose.

The forum dying on me before I had reached page three of the original thread is sounding more and more fortunate. :p

This is not the place to discuss moderator actions. The decision whether or not a thread can continue onward after editing particular posts is a judgment call. Don't read anything more into it than that.

Its true its the reason Haile Selassie was deified by the rastafarians, Tafari as in rastafari is is given birth name. He told the world the Ethiopians were a black people instead of whatever else other countries wanted him to say. I mean, I am not saying he was perfect. King is essentially a dictator from a family line, and like most kings he crushed rebelions I am sure. But he in a world ruled by white colonial powers admited his peoples Africaness/Blackness in a public arena.

Do it! I think there are people in this fandom looking for spaces to talk about these subjects. This thread isn't a completely safe space but it is much safer than uh, the "boring conversation anyway" thread that one was.

Anyone remember that book where Han reminisces about banging Leia on a furry rug by the fireplace?

    Anyone? *crickets*

I enjoy Star Wars for the amputations, genocides, totalitarian regimes, and heroes murdering children and strangling their wives. I would hate to have that escape ruined by like, gay love or sexytime or something.

And Wookiees getting porn for Christmas.

Hey Coop. What's the "diversity score" for the Star Wars Holiday Special, anyway?

I confess I don't know how the diversity scoring system works, but I demand the Holiday Special receive extra points for not only taking the initiative of portraying a large portion of the special in a foreign language, but for also refusing to subtitle it. It also unflinchingly explores wookiee culture in a manner that's likely to make a large portion of the ignorant viewers (which, I must confess, I am one) highly uncomfortable.

Also, it's a great showcase of foreign music. If not for the Holiday Special, how else would I have discovered Jefferson Starship?

Off the top of my head, actually, probably fairly typical. Art Carney, Bea Arthur, et al pretty much offset the Wookiees.

Unless, of course, Jefferson Starship are near-humans.
