As far as 1st Day cards go, there are two ways to tell the difference.

    A. There should be a round sticker on all packs that says First Day something, or other. If the packs themselves aren't marked, then you will see the exact same thing on the right hand side of the card about half way down, but it will be in gold foil print (hard to miss!).

B The second way to tell if your getting first day cards is simple. Take your wallet and place it in your preferred hand. Now, open it and pay for your cards. Place any remaining cash in your wallet (there should be very little to none remaining). Once again place your wallet in your hand and watch the magic begin! Now, if you just bought first day cards, your wallet will slowly leave the palm of your hand and begin to float skyward due to the extreme lack of weight loss caused from removing all of your life savings needed to purchase the cards. Essentially you pay for a R2 booster pack, get no foil, lit, or EU cards, or any chance of recieving more than one rare card. But they do look cool!

In reply to "The 2nd Quest's" question about targeting rotated characters, the answer is "Yes".

If you are the attacker, you can pick any one of your opponent's characters at the site as the defender, even if the character is already rotated. If Vader attacks Luke and wins, Obi-Wan can come right back and attack Vader.
