We'll be moving to Edinburgh in July, 2008 - have lightsabers. Are there Jedi who duel in Edinburgh?
What do you usually do when you meet?

Here's the website of the group we're currently affiliated with:

    http://www.nyjedi.com/

That's us in the lower left hand corner, crossing sabers:
    http://www.nyjedi.com/luckychengs/halloween-06-collage.jpg

NY Jedi are a great group, mostly centered around Lightsaber stage combat and, of course, a general love for all things Star Wars.
Many of us are also involved in the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) and Renaissance Faires.
Here's a page with a video of what the NY Jedi are focusing on. They're trying to create a stage fighting forum involving Jedi groups nationwide. We'd love to start something like this up in the U.K.:
    http://www.saberwars.com/

We're currently working on our stage fighting/lightsaber techniques, and hope to find folks who'd be into it when we arrive in the U.K.

    Hope to make contact!

    DLG & DAF

    Hi Grantusum!

Welcome to the North and welcome aboard! :)

At meets, we tend to visit places of interest or local attractions, such as musuems/landmarks/galleries etc and we also wander around the shops (usually on the hunt for the sci-fi/comic shops! ;) ). We tend to round the meets off with a meal and general socialising afterwards. We also have meets to co-incide with conventions, such as GMEX in Manchester.

Meets tend to be either one day or a weekend and the Edinburgh one will be a weekender where we hope to join up with the Scotland chapter too.

There are some of our members who are into costuming/role-play and I think they'd be more than happy to join in in the odd lightsabre duel. If you'd like to get in touch with them, let me know and I'll ask them if they're OK for me to pass on their usernames.

Please feel free to PM me if you'd like any more info and we hope to see you in Edinburgh! If you'll be living in Edinburgh, you may also like to stop by and say hello on the Scotland Boards too: http://boards.theforce.net/board.asp?brd=10203

Welcome to the boards Grantusum! Great city btw, been to New York quite a few times, love it. Went to one of the medieval faires in October a number of years ago, held at the Cloisers

I just wanted to add that there is also a New York Fan Force chapter, so before you move you may want to chat and meet up with them. You can find them here - http://boards.theforce.net/new_york_city_ny/b10103/p1
I know them quite well, was part of their chapter for some time, and they are a great bunch of people. Most of the group costume, so you could ask them too. Fan Force for the most part is the social side of fandom, though as Suzi said we have people interested in all parts of fandom, including costuming and cosplay.

Good to have you here, hope to see you around!

Just bumping this back up to keep it in people's minds.

When would people prefer to have this meet- perhaps late Jan/early Feb, which gives us all a chance to get over Xmas and save up a bit? [face_thinking]

    Hi Guys

I've bumped this thread over on our very, very quiet boards too, I have suggested early Feb as a rough date to enable peeps to recover from the Christmas excesses. You will definately have Melissa and myself turning up with at least two or three others showing some interest. Looking forward to it!

I guess Edinburgh could be a one day or weekender, so if people want to stay over that's fine, or just want to make a day of it, then that's fine too. (Personally, I'd be up for making a weekend out of it, but that's by the by.)

We can sort out the finer details nearer the time, but it may be useful for people to have a think about anywhere they'd like to visit, or what they want to do while they're there.

I don't know how people feel about this idea, but perhaps we could do something together (like visiting somewhere) and then have time to go off and do what we want to do to save everyone trapsing round altogether?? Thoughts please...... [face_thinking]

There's the Scottish Whisky Museum Experience http://www.whisky-heritage.co.uk/ , Sie, also a great place to visit! You go on a Jorvik type trip through the history of our national drink and get a wee bit of tasting too!

Seasons Greeting to you and Melissa from Carlisle!
Wow George - that's an interesting view of historic Edinburgh for a 17 century re-enactor. Hopefully I'll make the joint meet in February.

i'd think it's a good thing to split up at times so people can do various things rather than stick together all the time.

Let's not forget that we're also there to meet with FF-UK: Scotland, so we should at least spend some time with them during the meet.

i'm sure these things will sort themselves out when we have an actual date and things. it's just that personally i felt like i had 7 people trailing behind me in york and while that might not totally have been the case, it certainly didn't feel necessary in the sense that we could just split for a little while and then gather again, no harm in that.
