Kessel mines the spice glitterstim, which is only found there. Arrakis mines melange, which is only found there.

Tatooine is completely desert, Arrakis is completely desert.

Anyone else kinda disturbed that this? It's more than just Lucas being inspired by Dune. It's like he stole the idea!

 

Going by KOTOR, the Tuskens are the ones with a Fremen-like migration backstory.

 

Yes, Lucas has been heavily inspired by Dune when creating Star Wars (A New Hope). To be honest, you could name it "stealing an idea". Could... Frank Herbert didn't sue Lucas for this, and I don't think there is a monopoly on a science fiction planet design.

 

The Bioware people are probably into Dune too.

You could also argue that Dune itself was influenced by the John Carter of Mars series, which is old enough that the original books are in the public domain and like Dune, they share similarities. Hence, why when news of the Disney acquisition broke, people attributed the bombing of "John Carter" as the motivation behind Disney buying Lucasfilm. But I think even if all three universes share similarities where maybe the same idea started them off, they're all unique takes on it that have grown into their own original universes.
