I should have posted the next chapter at least a month ago, but I've hit a wall. I am trying to figure out what to include in the next chapter and its very difficult (I don't want to include too much, but I need to have certain stuff). I think the actual wedding chapter will be even more difficult. Anyway, I just wanted to make an appearance and bring this fic up from page 11.

I am sorry this took 6 months to finally post. I just had a hard time deciding on how to write this. Finally I sat down and just typed it up last night.

Chapter 19 - Finalizing the Plans


Inside the Solo household's apartment, Han and Leia were attempting to get the twins ready for bed before Luke and Mara arrived to finalize the wedding plans.


Jacen was already in his pajamas and making a big yawn, his eyelids closing over his brown eyes. Jaina was resisting being dressed for bed, looking longingly towards the apartment's front door, waiting for her Aunt Mawra to make an appearance.


With a pleading look, she looked up at her mother and said, "Aunt Mawra?" Leia glanced over at Han sitting in the rocking chair, just finishing up with Jacen's bedtime story. The other twin was nearly fully fast asleep in his arms, exhausted after a long day of play with his daddy.


"Jaina, you can stay up until Uncle Luke and Aunt Mawra get here, then its right to bed as soon as you see her, okay?"


Jaina, barely understanding what her mother had said, since she was only about two, nodded solemnly. She didn't put up any more resistance, letting her mother finish dressing her in her "Daddy's Princess" pajamas. Leia lifted her into her arms, then touched the dimmer for the lights and went out to the living room.


Just as she was putting Jaina down on the floor, the door buzzer sounded. She felt the presence of her twin brother radiating in the Force. His fiancé's presence was not as intense, but still there. She opened the door and greeted each of them warmly.


As Mara walked into the room right after Luke, she felt something tug at her jumpsuit's pant leg. She looked down and smiled at Jaina. "Aren't you supposed to be in bed, little Princess?"


In response, Jaina yawned. Leia lifted her up, but Jaina held her arms out for Mara to take her. Mara complied, and Jaina gave her a slobbery toddler kiss on the cheek. Then she yawned again, her eyelids beginning to droop shut. Leia took Jaina from Mara without a protest, and went down the hallway to put Jaina to bed.


Han exited the nursery just as Leia was entering it. He put a finger to his lips and nodded at the sleepy toddler in her arms. He walked down the hall and entered the living room just as Luke and Mara were seating themselves on the couch.


"As soon as Leia comes back, we'll finish the plans for your wedding."


As if on cue, Leia returned a moment later.


"What's left for our list?" She looked at Luke and Mara.


"We need to set a date so Karrde knows when to be on planet, we need a place for the ceremony, we already know that Admiral Ackbar is performing the ceremony, and we need a place for the reception."


Leia glanced at her data pad. "Do we need to pick a menu or will you have a buffet style meal?"


Luke shrugged. "Mara?"


"What would you suggest, Leia?"


"Buffet style meal might be easier, so there's a variety of foods. Especially when it comes to picky eaters like -- "


She was interrupted by Han who answered, "Like Jaina and Jacen?"


Leia made a face, "No, like you, you big nerf herder."


Luke hid his amused smile.


Mara?s eyes had a suspicious twinkle. "Buffet style sounds good, Leia. You can take care of the details, but I do think it'd be wise to choose simple foods. Nothing extravagant."


"Don't worry, there won't be anything extravagant."


"Now what date will work well for you?"


"How about in two months?"


"That should be long enough for Karrde to arrange to be on planet."


"And it'll be just after the twins turn two. So, they'll be a little older."


"I wish there was a way for Jaina to be in the wedding. I bet she'd love to wear a pretty dress and be with Aunt Mawra," Luke commented.


"Well, she could be in the wedding, but not officially. We could get her a basket of pretty flowers to carry. And she could walk with me and Han during the procession of the wedding party. That way we can kee

Aww I love little Jaina and her fascination with Mara. Awesome post.

I'm not doing individual replies this time. I am going to try to get something up before the next mush mania day, so my fic doesn't get lost.


Jaina is adorable: of course the child that she was modeled after in *this* story is now almost 9 years old.

And Leia mispronounces it on purpose because the kid is only about 2. Most 2 year old children can't talk that well yet.


When I post next, it won't be the wedding yet, but sort of a transition post (19 1/2 you could say), so I can have a little more time to write the wedding. Right now I am concentrating on the "the three weeks before the wedding" chapter.

 

Liz, sorry for my delayed response. Well done! I love the family unit they all have become and you portray that wonderfully through your writing. Lovely job!

I'll try to have something written by the week of Christmas. I've had too much writers block/inspiration block, but hopefully I can get around that soon, as long as my new Wii game doesn't take all my time up.

 

Sorry I'm just now getting to this, Jedi_Liz I went back and reread it to refresh my memory over the last couple weeks.

"Luke is having such a difficult time deciding on a Best Man,

Gotta be Han, IMHO As Mara walks down the aisle, Han can yell, "You're all clear, kid. Now let's blow this thing and go home."

He had already been asked, indirectly, by Wedge if he could be in the wedding party.

That settles it. Wedge is trying to force his way in? pick Han!

It'd be quite unusual, but he had recently watched a strange program from something called the "Erth" Channel. On the program he had watched, a man had such a dilemma as he had faced - he had his brother-in-law asking to be Best Man, and then he had a friend, his business partner in some strange business called "writing jingles", to be his other Best Man, so when Luke saw the solution the man had come up with - the sharing of the duties, he had assumed all worked out well.

I have no idea what show this is a reference to. The only thing I can remember is Friends, but that doesn't fit

"These designs are all exquisitely beautiful, Jari'kyn, but I think I need something that reflects me. I'm not sure if any of these do." She waved her hand at the rack of dresses.

No sleeveless leather catsuits, eh?

"Take a look at this." She handed the data pad over to Mara, who turned it on. A 3-D Image of a dress projected in front of her. She gasped. It was the design she had dreamed about recently. Maybe it hadn't been a dream. After all, Luke had told her that Jedi don't dream. Perhaps it had been a Force-induced vision instead.
"It's beautiful, Jari'kyn," she said, tears forming in her eyes.

Aww. I'm glad Mara found a dress she liked

"I'm sorry, Wedge, " Han started, patting the dark haired man next to him on the shoulder. "Maybe next time."

"We should have known you're not the type to want to hurt someone's feelings."

AKA: a wuss

"Of course." Luke's friends grinned. Luke sighed with satisfaction. They just had a few things left to do and the wedding could commence.

That went over well. Sounds like things are coming together on both fronts

"And keep them here until they decide on tuxes. There's nothing worse than an indecisive man."

Look out, Luke!

"I'm getting married."
His eyes widened in shock. "Do I know the lucky gentleman?"
"Let's just say you played 'Host' to him a few years ago, but at the time, he was more like a prisoner than a guest of honor."
"You don't mean -- " He paused for a moment, as if lost in thought. "Skywalker?"
"Yes, I'm getting married to Luke Skywalker."
Talon started laughing. "Is this Nasabaygein Fool's Day already?"

"Actually, we haven't exactly set a date yet. And well, I have a favor to ask of you." Unconsciously, Mara twirled a piece of her hair around her finger and bit her lip. She hoped he'd agree to this request.
"What sort of favor, my dear?"
"I need someone to escort me down the aisle. You're as close to a father as I have and Leia insists that we follow this tradition if possible."

Aww. That was sweet.

Great post, Liz Was fun seeing Luke and Mara make their wedding preparations and there were some good laughs. I particularly loved the scene with Luke, Wedge, and Han

Another nice post, Liz Sounds like they have things pretty well worked out and I like that they're having the wedding on Naboo. Very fitting, even if Luke isn't aware of just how much.

Bah, you can have dual honor positions just as long as both parties know and understand. . . in my case. . . they are both cool with it. .. and well it's Wedge and Han. . . they'll be able to take care of it Plus Han would be using Wedge as a point man to contact and control the rouges

Chapter 19 1/2 - [b]Countdown to Wedded Bliss[/b]


"Bye Leia, bye Han!" Luke and Mara called as they left the Solo apartment following the afternoonn celebration for Jaina and Jacen's second lifeday.

Mara turned to her fiancé as they waited for the lift doors to open so they could go back to their respective apartments. "So, what was the deal with Han? He seemed a little clingy with Jaina."

"I guess the explanation is that he and Leia watched a holovid on that new channel - the 'Erth channel,' last night. Something called 'Father of the Bride.' I think it made him crazy; he doesn't want Jaina to grow up so fast, like the daughter seemed to do, according to Leia."

"But Jaina's only two!"

"Two years is a lifetime to someone like Han. According to Leia, Han thinks Jaina will go to bed two years old and wake up engaged to a man she met halfway across the galaxy."

"Did he by chance drink any Corellian whiskey while viewing the holovid?"

Luke chuckled, "Probably. Doesn't change what he thinks about his baby girl, though."

When they came to the floor where his apartment was, Mara kissed her fiancé good night and headed towards her apartment. She needed a good night's sleep because tomorrow was when she, Leia and Iella were doing their final fittings for the wedding.

Bright eyed and fully rested, Mara was sipping her caf when Leia and Iella arrived, little Jaina in tow. "Aunt Mawra!" Jaina giggled, running towards her almost-aunt with glee. Mara quickly put her caf mug down and leaned down to give the little girl a hug. She ruffled the little girl's hair. "Are you ready to go pick out your dress?" Jaina nodded, her little curls bouncing.


"So, when do the men get their fittings?" Mara asked as she locked her apartment's door behind them.


"They're lucky. They just have to have a quick fitting check a few days before the wedding. But us girls, we have to make sure the dresses fit weeks before it," Iella commented.


"So, how are you and Wedge doing, Iella? Any big news?" Mara winked.


Iella blushed slightly, then shook her head. "I doubt what you're hinting at will come anytime soon. Wedge has been so busy lately; mostly training new recruits and making sure Wes Janson is doing a big project the day of Luke's wedding so he doesn't crash it."


When they arrived at Jari'kyn's boutique, Mara was ushered into a windowless room to try on her dress while Jari'kyn's assistant, May'a, was sent to help Leia and Iella. Luckily, Jaina was soon occupied playing with her model x-wing toy that she had received from Luke for her lifeday. After Leia and Iella were done, Jaina would get a chance to pick out her "pwetty" for the wedding.


"It?s?.it?s so beautiful, Jari'kyn. And it fits so well. . . . Thank you so much." Tears of joy formed in Mara's eyes as she admired the dress. It fit perfectly and Jari'kyn grinned, reminding her to "make sure to recommend me to your friends, especially your maid of honor." Mara grinned and nodded. She suspected that Wedge would pop the question soon, maybe not too long after she and Luke were married.


"Okay, so your maid of honor and matron of honor will be picking the dresses up the morning of the wedding, correct?"


Mara nodded and Jari?kyn added, "And I'll make sure there's extra covering over your dress so they can't see it until they help you dress."

"Jari'kyn, I would be honored if you would be able to come to the wedding. I'll make sure you get an invitation."


Jari'kyn grinned. "Thank you, Mara, I would be honored to attend."


After getting dressed again, Mara met her maid and matron of honor in the main sales floor and watched as Jaina excitedly ran to a rack of little girl dresses. She pointed to one, made of a soft yellow fabric. "Let?s try this on, sweetie," Leia said, picking her daughter up and following Jari'kyn to the dressing room.


A few minutes later, Jaina came out, followed by her smiling mother and the equally smiling seamstress. "It?s perfect," Mara said.
