San Fran, CA Lucasfilm Event November 5th at the Presidio?

For the past month now the rumors have been flying hard and fast that an announcement concerning the release of the first trilogy of STAR WARS movies on DVD may be in the cards. Websites such as The Digital Bits have been reporting that there are rumblings Lucasfilm may (remember, that's a maybe) release EPISODES IV - VI on DVD sometime in the fourth quarter of 2004.

And now the day of the big announcement may have been revealed. According to a report published on the STAR WARS collectible website Yakface.com, an important event of some kind is being held on November 5 at The Precidio, the complex in San Francisco now owned by Lucasfilm. An exotic invititation in the form of a Darth Vader figure fixed atop a black acrylic block has been sent to businesses that have worked with Lucasfilm in the past.

The invite reads: "LORD VADER IS PLANNING A MAJOR ASSAULT. HE SUMMONS YOU TO SHARE HIS TOP SECRET BATTLE PLANS. WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2003, THE OFFICERS' CLUB, AT THE PRESIDIO, SAN FRANCISCO, CA. LIGHTSABERS AND BLASTERS MUST BE CHECKED AT THE DOOR. MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU."

Is this the invite to a presentation announcing the classic STAR WARS films on DVD? And if so, will the films be only the SPECIAL EDITION versions and not the original released cuts?

 

Thanks for the update Mara...I couldnt post this event because the 501st would have killed me. But I hope to go...I need to find out what the staff will be wearing. Since Im an okay costumer maybe I can pull it off. Just kidding!

They posted this on TFN a couple of days ago so if you guys want to see what the invites look like...look it up. They look so tight! I want one!

Well, we've finally heard from our sources on that meeting that
Lucasfilm held yesterday at the Presidio with their retail
partners. Here's the skinny, and you guys are gonna love it...
Star Wars: Episodes IV, V & VI are coming to DVD in September of
2004. The animated series of Clone Wars shorts appearing soon on
the Cartoon Network will also be released on DVD, possibly before
the end of this year. The teaser campaign for Episode III will
begin in January of 2005, leading up to the May theatrical
release. Finally... Episode III will hit DVD in November of 2005.
This is going to be all over the Net soon, and you can already
read more about it at Ain't it Cool News. Keep in mind that none
of this is official until Lucasfilm publically announces it...
but this is certainly, at long last, the real deal.
