I've never seen what was so special about gollum. He's way over hyped, and very underwhelming to see as far as I'm concerned. Not to mention the aweful looking Smeagol to gollum transformation scene. If Yoda ends up losing to anyone, it should be Davy Jones.

It's very rare to have a scene with just a CGI character, and have it be captivating and have it seem real. Yet, every scene with Gollum was just that. He made a lasting impact not just on LotR fans and general sci-fi/fantasy geekboys, but pop culture in general. I do believe Gollum should win the entire thing, and have felt this way since the start.

Davy Jones. I could tell Gollum was CG just by looking at his eyes. Plus that last scene of him being sucked into the lava looked totally fake.

But Jones...The entire film, I was entirely convinced that we were seeing Bill Nighy's face in make-up and just the tentacles were CG.
But he's 100% digital. Amazing.

darth_paul; well said. I agree completely, except in the fact that I do actually like Yoda and think 'he' did a good job. But I definitely agree with you in that the winner of this semi-final should take the crown. These individual characters just stuck out to me more than Yoda did.

Yoda
I watched RotS again last night. I say it again, he's one of the most amazing things in a movie because they made such a strange creature come to life. Gollum, Jones, Sonny, etc. are just humanoid. I'd have more trouble voting against the Balrog than any of them.
