As the title states, this is the official DFW FanForce thread for discussion of the midnight premiere of AOTC at the Cinemark Legacy.

Please do not post more threads about this; per the terms of use for this forum, threads considered to be redundant will be locked by FanForce or TFN moderators.

Currently, the details are as follows, per Cinemark Legacy management:

  2. Negotiations with Lucasfilm/Fox are NOT finished, at least as far as Cinemark is concerned.

  3. The movie is to be shown no earlier than 12:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 16.

  4. Even though all negotiations have not been completed, Cinemark corporate has decided to start selling advance tickets, so that they will not lag behind other chains such as AMC/UA.

  5. Final number of midnight screenings and type (film stock vs. digital projection) have not been confirmed. Due to negotiations not being completed, Legacy management can only confirm that it is very likely that they will have a digital copy, and it is also very likely they will show several copies of both the regular film stock and digital versions of AOTC.

  6. The copy of the film used for the advance and charity screenings is only a temporary copy, as negotiations have not been finalized for the exhibition of the film.

  7. Once negotiations have been finalized, Legacy management will be contacting DFW FanForce Staff with the pertinent information.

  8. Cinemark employees and security staff will be directing those who have purchased tickets and wish to line up for the premiere to join us at the DFW FanForce line, which is where lining up for the premiere at the Legacy started.

  9. At the appropriate time, Cinemark staff will escort the outside line-up, in its established order, into the building to await admittance to the theater rooms.

  10. More information is expected by this Thursday. Stay tuned here for more details.

Again, we're working with the theater management to make this event go as smoothly as possible. Cinemark management has let us know in no uncertain terms that their security staff be on hand to ensure the safety of everyone involved.

Our goal is for everyone to get together with their STAR WARS friends, enjoy the film, and find out more about how to help our charity, My Guardian Angel.

Just like with any packed theater showing, the earlier you show up, the better your chance of getting great seats.

Please either post here or private message/e-mail me at brianh@dfwfanforce.net with any questions or concerns.

    Thanks, and see you there!
    Brian

It's very important for everyone to just calm down about the midnight show. And the best way for everyone to stay informed is to come out to the line as much as possible, not to mention that coming out will get you more hours so you can have a better place in line.

However, what everyone needs to remember is that the last day (May 15), everyone needs to be there when we get in order according to everyone's hours. Everyone else who shows up after that will get in the back of the line. So if you've accumulated hours out at the line, or do so in the next week and a half, be sure to be there so you can get your rightful place in line. If you're not there when we do our final lineup, sorry, you're going to have to go to the end of the line because it wouldn't be fair to bump all of the other people that were there on time.

The time of our lineup in order on the 15th hasn't been determined yet, so keep checking back. Most likely it will be by noon on the 15th. But again, please check back for confirmation.

    See you all there!

My major concern with the DFW FF controlling this midnight showing is that I'm driving down to Plano on the 15th from Oklahoma City. I've been planning this trip ever since I heard that the DLP at the Legacy might be getting AOTC. Obviously, there is no way I can log in ANY line time from now until the 15th. So...a three hour drive to Plano...and I'm not even sure if I get some halfway decent seats?

Now I DO plan on arriving at the Legacy about 2 p.m. or so on the 15th. Will those few hours that I'm able to log into the line (I can hang out at the theater until showtime) help my chances at getting a good seat?

And I haven't even brought up the fact that I'm bringing my wife, who might or might NOT be able to wait with me in line. Do husbands and wives coming together count as ONE if only one logs the hours in line?

Sorry, but I'm a bit confused as to what COULD happen with my unique situation. I've bought the tickets online (non-refundable). I've already booked the hotel room. I've already cleared my schedule for two days. Now I'm getting a little worried.

Any info you could give would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

    - Darth Simian

Come along, the theater holds like 500 people, and I dont think at 2pm there will be that many folks their by then. (but I could be wrong)

Anyway, like we said, there is under 30 folks that have time loggend in right now, so most likely there will be pleanty of spots close to the front of the line.

How do the FanForce guys anticipate seating will go?

I was at Cinemark Tinsletown Plano for Ep1 TPM permire, and it was chaos. People started lineing up for good seats weeks in advance.

The day of the showing, everyone was first brought inside the lobby, then placed in a line right outside the theater. When the ushers finally did open the ropes to the line, it was like the Okalahoma Land rush. People were running, pushing, jumping over seats, it was a mad dash for the best seats.

Are you guys gonna let people go in 4, 5 at a time, or just all at once?

Okay, let's just try to clarify things here. We're going to have an actual line to get into the theater that day. As to what time we're going to do it that day, it hasn't been determined for sure, but it will likely be sometime late morning/early afternoon. Everyone that has logged hours and is present when we organize the line will have their place, and for everyone that shows up afterwards will get in line then, as they arrive. Nobody will get bumped, and nobody will save places in line for thirty friends. I would imagine people can hold a few seats for friends when they're in the auditorium, but probably not more than a few. That is still being worked out by us and the management.

But if you have a ticket already, just show up as early as possible and get in line. There shouldn't be any problem.

quick question: I heard talk of tents and camping. Where exactly are you setting up tents? and does time spent sleeping in your tent count as time in line?

We set the tents up on the north side of the theater and yes, as long as you sign in and out of the log book, all of your time out there counts whether you're sleeping in a tent, or sitting in chairs with everyone else.

Just make sure you're also there on the 15th when we do the actual lineup so that your time will get you your place in line.

    ted,
even seeing a movie at the legacy counts as being in line, as long as you mark it in the log book when you get there, and log out when you leave.

I just called the Legacy and they said they were having "a conflict" with Lucas and could not guarantee a digital showing of EPII ("maybe not for a day, maybe not for a month"). Anyone know anything about this?

Yep. They are still in negotiations. Lucasfilm wants as much digital screen time for AOTC as possible, but the digital theaters also want to showcase the other 7-8 digital movies coming out this summer.

    Stay tuned for more info...

The whole thing is nuts. Honestly, it's based on two things: 1) percentage of movie gross kept by the "house" and 2) requirements for how long the movie must play in a specific theater/screen.
Other theater chains featuring DLP screens (AMC, for instance) have been able to confirm DLP prints. However, Cinemark corporate (which, interestingly, is out of Dallas), has been unable to do so at this point. Granted, I think Cinemark has the best quality of movie theater in town, and is often the cleanest theater, as well. And, I'm grateful that they will, at some point, be offering a digital print of the movie. However, being an attorney myself, I am surprised that the negotiations haven't been completed yet, with regard to this matter.

This question is for an official member of the DFW Fan Force: if we haven't served any time at the Legacy line, but we're registered in here and registered on the dfw fanforce.net website, will we be able to be in the back of the FanForce line (which would, of course, be after those people who have graciously served time in line)? Thus, would we still get in PRIOR to the mass crowd that has not registered or ever heard of dfw fanforce.net? I was just curious how it was all going to work.

robertwolf, to make this go smoothly and fairly for all involved, anyone who has not logged in hours at the Legacy line prior to the final line-up on Wednesday, and arrives after the final line-up has been put in order, will be first-come-first-served.

Again, we can't post all the details until we have the full scoop from the theater.

Also, our prize raffle will be starting pretty soon...one of the prizes to be won is first place in line, so it's still an open contest :)

The Line has always been on a first come basis. Again Like Brandon-X said for some the began a month ago.

Its like this I have 4 hours I come before anyone with less hours than that. And all with no time cover the rear in the time they come..

Can someone who was in on the Ep I midnight showing give us a recap on number of people (not exact) and how fast it filled up?

P.s. This is getting too complicate, I propose lightsaber duels at dawn for seating position :D

    Yes I can...

Prior to the day before the line up there was about 20-30 hardcore liners. The day before the movie we had about 50 or so line up. by 6am the 18th we had If I can remember correctly close to 300 people for 2 different movies. The 12:05 and the 12:15. from then til about 5pm it didnt grow much more. But after people got off wrk it grew very fast.

We had at least 6 to 700 people by 8 or 9'O clock

by 11pm at least a grand. The 2 theaters that were used held 700 a piece so there were a few that slid in late, but had to sit on the steps......

    Hope that helps

I was not in the Countingdown line at the Galaxy for TPM, but my friends and I did go to the midnight showing.

I do not recall the time that we got there, but suffice it to say it was probably after work around 5 or 6 pm.

I can only roughly estimate that there were about 150 people in front of us. (that may be way off as I did not count the people).

The line wrapped around the back of the building, and when we got into the theater we were able to find two sets of four seats
on the aisle on the right hand side of the center section about midway up (not the optimal location, but nonetheless prime viewing compared to the front row or extreme far right or left).

As I recall the line for the next showing that morning was much shorter and as a buddy and I stayed for every show that day, our seating continued to improve.

Our experiences were not tainted by not camping out. We got decent seats and were able to continue to get good seats.

That is not to say you shouldn't camp out in line. By all means, go out, have fun (as the others have said) and make some money for a worthy cause.

Otherwise you take the chance of getting a seat that is not exactly in the middle or not exactly where you want it. Just like many other movies - it depends on how early you are willing/able to go to get seats...

Very Well Put and I think you are right it was more around 150 at about 5pm. I did count but that was 3 years ago.

Just dont show up at 11 expecting a good seat.... [face_plain]

    Okay, people!

Just got off the phone with the Legacy manager. There is still no word on final negotiations as of yet. Sticking point is Lucasfilm/FOX's stringent requirements on DLP screenings.

The advance screening was a film stock copy, and the charity screening copy is supposed to be a digital copy, though that depends on the negotiations of course.

We will soon have word on placement of raffle prize displays, charity buckets, and moving our pavilion and banner back to the front of the building, at the north end.

THX_Jedi will be out there full-time starting this evening, so anyone who wants to make sure a member of staff is out there before dropping by should be fine. He may catch a movie early tonight, but otherwise will be there unless he needs to run an errand, etc.

He would be honored if you would join us!

Can you imagine how much of a royal 'ryhmes with duck' job it would be if they don't get a digital print?
I know its unlikely but it still makes for a frightening thought.

In those negotiations the manager should mention that it would be a shame for die hard fans who love SW and have helped make it a gold mine to get screwed out of seeing the digital version here in TX.

    Now this is news.

You have GOT to be kidding me!!??

Why would Cinemark even OFFER presales tickets of AOTC at the DLP online if no "deal" has been made??? So, I would think I could demand a refund if they don't get it!
