Well, I didn't see this topic in the index thread, so away it goes. :p

I've just started making this gown, only starting off with the velvet coat type thing, and since I didn't have my velvet long enough, I cut it around my arms and just put straps on there to keep it in place, then after I figure out the collar piece, I'll sew that on top of the coat thing. :p

Here's what I have so far:

So anyone have ideas about how to figure out that collar piece around the neck and shoulders? I've already wasted part of my velvet on it and I don't have much of it left... :p

And on the under gown (btw, I'm too afraid of posting pictures of the runway or the exhibit pictures. And I forgot to snap off a few pictures at the FIDM exhibit [face_blush] Silly me. :p ) obviously has a hoop somewhere in there, here's a picture of the sleeve:

And obviously the under-under sleeves and collar are beaded, so that'll be fun doing. :) :p

I recommend checking out www.padawansguide.com if you haven't already - She has a LOT of info on Padme's outfits.

The pictures are from Padawan's Guide. :p But there's no information about the collar thing on the velvet section of the gown and I'm still baffled at it. [face_thinking]

I'm also planning on doing that gown. :D I'm really nervous about all that embroidery. @_@

For the collar, it seems as if you could pattern it yourself since it's so "fitted" to her shoulders. Have you ever heard of the "draping" method? Basically you just drape the fabric onto your dressform and cut and pin until it looks the way you want. ^^ I think the "shape" you'll want to end up with, is essentially a rectangle with rounded edges that are fitted to your shoulders.

I hope that made SOME sense. Another option is a lot of pattern companies make little evening cloak patterns (like shawls and shrugs, etc.) You could always look for those and then alter them to match Padme's.

Oh, and so you don't waste your velvet, you should try doing mock-ups--basically, you make whatever you're trying to make out of some cheap/ugly/whatev fabric (my friend buys old bedsheets from thrift stores) and then use that as a pattern to cut out your good fabric. :D

Maybe you can do a zoom on a good pic that has the collar in it. I'm not good at sewing so I'm thinking that if you can just get the generla shape, you can go from there.
