San Diego, CA Shadows in the Sand (Working Title)-The Official SDSWS and IE fanfilm thread!

Okay, for those of you who aren't already aware, the SDSWS and Inland Empire filmed a fanfilm in the Imperial Dunes during our trip. As director, editor, and FX guy (plus Stormtrooper and Smuggler that gets killed) I will post all updates on the progress of the fanfilm here. Hopefully starting this thread will give me some more motivation to finish the project more quickly. I would like to thank everyone involved. Special thanks to Jason (TK-7603) who was assistant director and provided the choreography along with Colt (AnakinWisler). Also thanks to Linda (Mara_Jade_Fan) who drove me out there . I can't list all the names, but everyone will be included in the credits.

 

First Update:

I put together a fairly tight edit of all the footage from day two of filming. This includes the massive jedi fight with the smugglers and the sith. FX work should begin soon. So far it is 2 minutes, 30 seconds long.

 

You should be included in the special thanks for directing the thing and doing the FX!

I'll bet he is the only director to have directed a movie while wearing stormtrooper armor.

Hehe, thanks guys . But I can't stress enough how much of a collaborative effort this was. It would've been impossible without all of you.

 

Donny, you need to add to your signature something like, "Director of Shadows in the Sand" or something along those lines.

 

oh my god! i just saw a rough cut! it was really nice! the fight scene is CRAZY!

I talked to Jason and we both felt that the ending is missing something. My idea would be to get a couple of other jawa costumes and have the jawa that picked up the walkie talkie from dan's body to take it to his jawa friends. We could film it on the beach from a high angle so it looks like it's on the dunes.

 

Can't wait to see it!!! It's nice to hear that all those hours wearing black in the desert will amout to something cool!

Wait one stinkin' minute, here! Where the heck did all these jedi come from? I thought this was a story about a Mandalore, a Stormtrooper and a Jawa. Man, just when you think you've got it all figured out. ...

I have a couple of regular-sized Jawas you can use (my kids). Let me know when and where you want to the pickups and I'll be there.

where are we going to get more than one jawa... or will we clone those too?

how about for the ending...
sand blows over the entire scene of the battle, burying the dead and leaving the desert as it started.... empty dunes.

(and to make it even wackier... after it all gets covered up in sand... a certain escape pod crashlands there, exposing a ring shaped piece from someone's debris...)

maybe we should have made the macguffin be the one ring... so when all our bodies are lying in the sand, and finally get buried, and an escape pod crash lands there, and two droids get out and walk off, and then some troopers come to check it out, one of the troopers picks up the One Ring and says "Look Sir, Droids"
(goes to show how smart sandtroopers really are)

 

if you need any help with rotoscoping or anything let me know.... i cant believe none of you guys told me about this... feelin the love here guys.... ive filmed nearly every event weve done and yah dont even tell me about a fan film.....

 

Well I may need help rotoscoping, as long as you use the after effects method and we collaborate so as to not have inconsistencies with the lightsabers. So that may be a possibility. It sure would move things faster.
