I noticed that the line of argument was very much 'we cannot change users sigs'.

This seems odd to me since I have, previously, had my signature censored and edited without my prior consent.

I also understand that some other members have had their sigs edited also. This is mainly due to their signatures containing spoilers and then the user posting in the non-spoiler section.

How can the JC administration respond therefore to such an obvious dichotomy between historical truth and current pretense?

I would suggest that the complete post deletion was either a malicious act or an act of ignorance.

Well if the admins can't change a user's details, you people got a major problem. I've never heard of any system where the administrators couldn't get into a user's account if it was absolutely necessary.

Fix this or it will bite you in the ass again.

Moderators can't change sigs. Managers can't change sigs. Administrators can.

From what I can tell, no Administrator was around, and Pyrus had something inappropriate in his sig. He was asked to remove it, he gave the staff the finger. As there was no Administrator to force a change, the only course of action available was taken.

But when you have a link to defamotory information that violates the privacy of several of the administrators of this board, and you refuse to remove it, do you really expect leniency?

Well, I don't know why his profile wasn't changed, then. I can't help you there. I'll ask Nathan about it.

Nathan's post in this thread seems to indicate that he was aware of the problem. Now, he doesn't specifically mention Pyrus, but since Nathan apparently used his admin status to edit his post well after the normally allotted half hour (EDIT: I see it has changed to 90 minutes, but that's immaterial, since his edit still exceeds the allotted time), something I can think of no legitimate reason for going through the trouble of, it would seem something had to be retrofitted to our current version of history.

Add to this the fact that Pyrus was banned within the window of Nathan's original posting and subsequent editing, and it adds up to something fishy.

With such movement of mods and admins mistakes are inevitable.

    Fact of life.

Guys, Nathan is new to having all the administrator tools. He may not have found how to do that yet.

Fair enough, but it still stands that you should fix the stituation.

Perhaps you should suggest to those above Nathan to give you guys (managers and mods) the ability to edit sigs. Nathan can't always be around, and it does fall under a moderating issue, not a technical issue.

Well, he posted here that he had just discovered how to find users' passwords. This is well after Pyrus's banning, but just 20 minutes after he edited his post in the other thread I posted. It seems pretty clear to me that at the time of Pyrus's banning, he didn't know how to access users' accounts, but once he found out, he felt the need to cover some earlier tracks he had made. No big deal, but it doesn't exactly inspire confidence. Know what I mean?

Nathan can't give us the ability to edit profiles. Only Administrators can do that. That's just the way the code is.

Well, technically, he could. He can see passwords, so he can give you a password and you can edit profiles.

But I understand you mean that he can't give you that ability as a function of being a mod. Just pointing out that it is a possibility.

True, but I believe the point of that was so that we could do it while he wasn't around. But he'd have to be around to give us the password...
