Des Moi, IA St. Patrick's Day Parade

Here's the info on the parade.

We're entry #79.

The parade will be assembled along Walnut Street from 12th street through
16th Street in downtown Des Moines. You may begin arriving at 10:00 am.
Please be at our assigned spot by 11:30. The parade begins at noon, the
parade will advance East from 15th and locust Street throught downtown to
the Embassy Suites Hotel (about a mile). Wear comfortable shoes!

Parking is available at the 9th and Grand or 11th and Walnut ramps.
Street parking is also available in the area.

We will be joining the DSM sci-fi club for this and please dress in costume if you can.

 

Hothie and I can't make it. We'd already agreed to go to Lincoln for a minis tourney this Saturday. Also, the only costume I have up here it my Endor Leia, and that is NOT a costume for windy days if you catch my meaning Maybe next time!

 

That's OK. I've been talking to Matt of the 501st and it looks like we'll have 2 troopers marching.

 

Well the snow must have kept the troopers away, but the jedi were on hand. It was a cold start but warmed up by the end. Spotted a R2-D2 mailbox along the way. Dan got his photo taken with it.

Nice photos! Granted, I don't celebrate St. Patrick's Day, but it's always nice to see people dress up in public.


The R2 mailbox is over by the Register building. My dad took a photo of it on Friday and met a postal employee who told him that there are 7 others in town and they'll be around for about 3 weeks.

I found another one over the weekend at Jordan Creek Mall. It's by the south entrance between Dillard's and the theater.

 

Ack, hopefully they will still be there my next trip up!
