    Star Wars #13

After a defeat by Rebel forces and the escape of prisoner Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader decides to clean house. From one end of the galaxy to the other, Vader’s “new broom”—a squad of elite stormtroopers backed by the Dark Lord’s own lightsaber—is sweeping the ranks of the Empire!

    Writer: Brian Wood
    Penciller: Facundo Percio
    Inker: Dan Parsons
    Colorist: Gabe Eltaeb
    Cover Artist: Hugh Fleming

    Publication Date: January 08, 2014
    Format: FC, 32 pages;
    Ongoing Price: $2.99

Looks like the 501st "Vader's Vist" unit might be replaced by "Vader's Broom"! [face_laugh]

It would be sort of awkward if Veers or Piett walked in on him doing that.... whatever it is he's doing. Evil dominating gesture thing.

Better yet, they call him from the same hologram unit at that very moment.

They'd be used to Vader having his "moments"

"I told you she would never consciously betray the Rebellion...

If only Bircher had not been given control of the Devastator based on the sliced in files, I would be fine with this storyline. I have no problem with Vader hunting down a slicer who made the Empire look foolish, in fact, I enjoy it. But the fact that the Emperor himself apparently read a FAKE file, and then appointed him to take control of a Star Destroyer, is beyond ludicrous, I don't care how many files you fabricated. You can't replace him ACTUALLY BEING THERE. Which should have been followed up on before placing him in charge of hunting down the Rebel flet.

Please, PLEASE tell me that they won't actually be called Vader's New Broom in the comic. Groan.

So, Vader has another female aide. That alone would be remarkable, but she's also a non-white female aide. That would normally be a cause for plaudits, except given certain revelations I'm not ready to celebrate anything related to Star Wood.

I am in full agreement. What a lame metaphor.

Cleaning house is what a CEO does when he's been replaced by the Board of Directors. It's not something a Sith Lord deigns to participate in. If someone stands in a Sith Lord's way, they walk up behind them and stab them in the heart.

If you switch really fast between the two images it looks like Vader conjures a Courscant cityscape out of an unhelmeted stormtrooper.

This entire series is lame. It might as well ignore everything in ESB anyway.

Hey what's going on with this next issue? It's not following the current story line, right?

Interesting to see the new black (she's clearly not African nor American) female officer. See if she sticks around and if her skin color will change as radically as some other characters in comics (cough, Storm)

Hmm, Vader spending 7+ hours out of 8 torturing people to make an example? Poor major, whose crime seems to be overconfidence rather than decietfulness to Vader, who is willing to cooperate but is tortured anyways. And a head of security simply shot, with no chance for explanation or attempt to make amends. Sounds far closer to Thrawn's dismissive evaluation of Vader than Traviss's "Vader, hero of the lower ranks" version.

Or we could just say that Anakin/Vader right after ROTS stuck close to his men because he remembered actually being Anakin, but the closer to ANH, and beyond, we got, the more Vader became cruel and uncaring about his soldiers. It would make a certain amount of sense and then we could keep both Zahn and KT's versions of Vader.

Zahn's Vader was feared by the officers, while Traviss' was beloved by the enlisted grunts. There's no incompatibility there.

Edit: In fact, the latter might be in part due to the former. The ESB radio drama has Vader explicitly execute Ozzel because of all the Imperial lives that will be lost in the ground assault which could have been avoided if they were able to perform an orbital bombardment of the Rebel base -- which wasn't possible because he came out of lightspeed too close to the system and the Rebels put their shield up.

Vader is just executing the officers for incompetence, in the same way that the incompetent officers are getting their men killed with poor judgement. Or so is the perspective of the common soldier, evidently.
