Hi all! Just wanted to say what a talented bunch of artists post here!

I've been a lurker for several years now, just admiring other peoples' work. Most of the time my sisters' the artist in the family, and I can't draw my way out of a paper bag (well I could, but it'd be crooked as all get-out, LOL!). But once in a while, the art bug bites me, too. I've only done costume sketches so far for the most part (none of which have been scanned yet, LOL), but almost four years ago I sat down and did a character sketch of everyone's favorite droids.

I know it's not perfect, but it's FanArt...and it took me two months of on-off work to get it done. On the rare occasion I do draw, my only mediums are pencil and colored pencil. Right now I'm working on Leia- the first human I've ever tried to draw realistically. The nose and mouth are close to driving me to insanity, but the rest of it is pretty much finished. I'll scan her when she's done, as well as the costume sketches I've done. Eventually I'd like to do all six major characters (Luke, Leia, Han, Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Padme), and maybe try and tackle a few peices I've been dying to do but haven't had the guts (or experience) to try.

    Happy drawing!

    -Cara.

There's a few more pieces, but not much at this point. I'm still stuck on Leia's upper lip. I haven't been able to scan anything else yet because my crazy brother hasn't hooked up the scanner yet (I don't know how).

Technically this is a costume design sketch, and I know it's WAY too light. [face_worried] But it's the only other thing in the computer right now.

Ah-ha! Got the scanner up and running, and managed to find and scan my other fanart. Like I said before, it's mostly costume sketches.

This one I did years ago, as soon as I heard what the title for Episode III was. ;) Remember those days?

Costume sketch: Random female Jedi, drawn before I knew what female Jedi would wear.

Costume sketch: Shmi Skywalker, missing her face. [face_blush]

Costume Sketch: a faceless Sarissa Jeng (FYI, the Jedi in Episode II who slashed a battle droid in the Geonosian Arena and went 'Heyaaaa!'

Sneek-Peek: ANH Leia. I've got more of her face done, but this is all you see for now, muwahaha. Don't know when I'll finish her, though. [face_worried]

Those all look great! You're definitely on your way!

It looks like costume design may be your thing. I would love to see more along those lines. ;)

Thank you for the kind comments! :)

Yes HanSolo29, I am better at drawing clothes than the people in them, LOL, but not nearly as good at thinking up original costume designs. My main interest is AU, but I'm not yet good enough to try any. The only costumes I've drawn are ones that I have made or would like to make, so I doubt I'll be doing any more of that, unless I sketch out what my current Jedi costume looks like.

I've since finished Leia as best I can, but can't post her, as she's on my dad's computer- the only one with a scanner. [face_blush]

Here she is! Don't get your hopes up. Her lips leave much to be desired, but I'd spent two hours sketching, erasing, and re-sketching until I was ready to go nuts. Finally I said 'the heck with it' and left her alone. NOTE: If you cover the left side, the right side looks better.

    [image=http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd279/UndercoverJedi/ScannedImage-5.jpg]

Any tips on how to draw lips without tearing my hair out?

    her pose is really good.

And for lips: I usually begin with the line between them, then add the upper and lower lip and make sure that there is some gloss on them

With oilpaint it is a lot easier. You can see some on the first page of my fanart.
