Not that I could've gotten him, but are we using the near-omnipotent, unstoppable on-par-with-Thanos Darkseid or the watered-down, recent, can be beat by Superman Darkseid?

It's all the same Darkseid, really. He has his great showings, good showings, bad showings and downight abysmal showings just like everyone else. It's not like they're different Darkseids. The writers just seemed to be thinking that he needs to be put in his place recently... or something... I dunno. Go ask them.

 

Probably because of those animated series'. There's no way someone with his listed powers and the unstoppable Omega Beam should EVER lose to Superman or have the beam deflected by Wonder Woman's bracelets, Orion's stuff or much of anything else. But I agree with the writers in this case. If he's as powerful as they seem to intend, he can't be beaten by anyone or any group in the JLA. There's a reason the first few picks following Spawn were Marvel. No force in DC could match that kind of Darkseid.
