Vicious, evil Real Life reared its ugly head - and is still doing so, as a matter of fact. But I just felt like I oughta swing by again and see what's going on at the ol' JC. I'm finishing the second of three semesters in my teaching credential program. Just over a month to go until summer hits! Yay! This semester has been a PAIN.

 

As I'm only taking one class this semester, I can't complain, but work has been AWFUL (more so than it already was) for me over the past few weeks.

I've been student teaching. I have a 7th grade English class. The kids are alternately pretty cool/totally insane. It's a ton of work, though, and my master teacher makes things way more difficult than they need to be. Summer can't get here soon enough.

 

My brother wants to be a history teacher one day, so he'll probably be in your shoes come a few years time.

I think a good master teacher can make all the difference. Mine is very disorganized and doesn't plan things very far in advance - totally the opposite of what I want to do. It makes for a lot of internal tension when I have to constantly ask, "What am I supposed to teach tomorrow." Plus, her management/discipline is totally inconsistent and she yells at the kids a lot and jumps in on my class to discipline. Apparently, I can't do it right?

Today, I got my assignment for next semester. It's at one of the nicer high schools in the area, and I'm pretty sure my coordinator and my supervisor tried really hard to get a better master teacher for me this time. It's not their fault about this semester, though - no one knew until it was too late. Oh, well. This week should be pretty easy (state testing, so short periods, plus I'm gone one day), then only four weeks to go!

It's still a lot of work, but your bro will probably be fine.

DT - True, no one said it'd be easy. On the other hand, my instructors and my university evaluator all agree that I got kinda hosed this semester, and that my master teacher should never have a student teacher again. I guess the big thing is that I'm not really learning how to be a really effective teacher, I'm learning how not to be a really ineffective teacher. Not the ideal situation. heheh.

 

I demand this thread be part of the festivities and if no one else is going to bump it then I will, dammit! Even though I don't think I've ever posted in here before.
