In fact someone should just splice together The Hobbit from all the LOTR DVDs and post it on YouTube.

I think he was listed in the credits as the owner of the property.

Instant movies. They're on the net before they're finished.

It would be pretty boring, confusing, and unnecessary. A lackluster way to end the franchise. So I bet that's exactly what they do.

Tom's not the subject of the sequel. It's going to focus on the White Council going after Sauron

Jake Lloyd can play the young Bilbo Baggins.

Ewan McGregor can play the young Gandalf.

Liam Neeson can play Qui-Gon Jinn.

    It'll be great.

Nonsense. The fans want Tom Bombadil, and that's what we're gonna get. I live in New Zealand you know. We're all tapped into this, it just gives me great joy that our gag-order has now been lifted due to New Line's announcement so we can share our inside knowledge with non-New Zealanders.

Okay, I just read this whole thread and I am greatly upset. There are several things I need to clear up about my views.

    1. george Lucas is a fantastic director.
    2. The LotR movies were great, and I also loved King Kong.
3.Peter Jackson is one of the best directors around.

Now, I will be upset if Peter does anything less than what he did for LotR. That is, I want him to write, direct, and produce. Also, I want Ian Holm, Ian McKellen, and Andy Serkis to be in the film.

Finally, I would LOVE a movie about the Silmarillion. If it couldn't be made into a movie, make it a TV show with different episodes for each story. I would particularly love to see Turin Turamabar filmed.

Finally, New Zealand IS Middle-Earth. If it is filmed anywhere else I will be very upset.

At last! :D That's great, great news. I really hope that Jackson will direct again and that actors like Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis and Hugo Weaving will return to reprise their roles.

I agree. But the scene of everyone jumping on the bed at the end of ROTK is the absolute gayest scene in cinema history outside of actual gay porn.

When I first read the story, I assumed the two films would both be based on the Hobbit novel and it would be released as a two parter. I don't see why they would make some off-tangent side story on Tom Bombadil or whatever when they could do one really good story correctly.

Because Tom has all those cool songs, and PJ really wants to up the musical numbers this time around.
