What would you like to gab about? We tend to get stuck on our own e-mail list for discussions, so others need to get us going on this board.

    Ideas?

We really are a talkative bunch, but as Paula pointed out, we do tend to get stuck on our mailing list. ;)

My topic for today: How I managed to get promoted out of a decent computer.

Seriously, I got a promotion at work, and my "new" computer is an inferior machine compared to my last one. How in the heck did that happen?

Well...it's obvious we need to stay away from the political stuff. :D

I didn't know you guys did most of your discussion stuff via email. I guess I'm just spoiled to the Memphis social thread. We're always going on about something there. Mandy joins in on the fun occasionally.

I had no idea about the "FF Twin" thing. I think Memphis would've been a great twin for you guys. We're not as big, but we make up for it with non-stop fun and parties.

Do any of you guys subscribe to Hyperspace? And do you have the time to actually sit down and watch the cam for a while? I get it, but just really don't have the time (or is patience a better word?) to sit and check it out much. I do enjoy the PhotoReceptor...that's pretty cool. I mean, if I knew when they would be filming or doing certain things, I'd make it point to be there in front of the computer, but as it is now...I just watch for a few minutes then I'm on to something else.

And...uh...hey, how 'bout those Braves? (okay, I'm just reachin' for stuff now)

    *edit*
My topic for today: How I managed to get promoted out of a decent computer.

That's just inconceivable, Mandy. I suggest you quit. But then again, I got screwed out of a new flat-screen monitor in my office, and I'm still here...so don't listen to me.

I'm on Hypserspace and am having the best time! I especially love the diaries.

And obviously you haven't discovered the "What did I miss?" board, yet. Sure, you have to wait a day, but it gives you the added convenience of being able to skim through for just what interests you. Great for those of use who can't (or won't) sit and just watch it.

You can find it either on the home page in the web cam box (it's one of the buttons) or go on their message boards in the administrative area.

But when I need a break at work, it is kinda fun to peek in and see what's going on. (Or, technically, what was going on since we're watching a rebroadcast.)

Mandy...that completely sucks about your computer. I SO know the feeling. When I was still getting assignments out in the states, I got a promotion with a move to New Hampshire. Got there to find a barely-functioning computer and the first week of an actual network. I had to explain to the tech support people what you actually need to buy in order to interact with a WindowsNT network. (Sad, but true.)

Maybe you can sweet-talk someone? Or use the "federal acquisition system." (Aka, go in after hours and swipe someones!)

LOL! Perhaps I can work out a deal with our IT guy. ;)

I would sign up for Hyperspace, but I barely have time to get by here everyday, much less check out Hyperspace, too. *sigh*

And Steve, while we might be relatively quiet on our boards most of the time, if you ever happen to meet us in real life, you'll find that we're a pretty wacky bunch. :D

Okay, here's another topic of discussion. Now, I realize that I tend to stay away from political topics, but I can't help it on this one.

Last night, Arnold Schwartenegger announced that he will indeed be running in the California recall election. What do you all think about this?

Let me confirm Mandy's assertion that we're actually a very talkative bunch. We just have members who prefer the listserve method to communicate.

    And in person? Good luck getting our group to be quiet! 8-}

As for Arnie running? Given his political background, I actually think he's a viable candidate. Odd to have him running, but at least he has experience in politics and knows how things work.

Gary Coleman? That porn actress? Don't have so much confidence in that.

My bigger concern is the precedent that this sets. Will this start becoming a regularly used tool? It could essentially paralyze a government any time there's a divisive issue.

Granted, Grey Davis has had his issues. And I don't know enough about his tenure to say whether or not this is deserved. It just seems a little scary.

Actually, yes, I have discovered the "What Did You Miss?" board. I use it every day. So far, my favorite has been the cam-shot of "Jango Fett - Tailor To The Stars".

As for the whole "Let's-See-How-Many-Candidates-We-Can-Get-On-The-Ballot-For-Governor" situation in California...I'm with you, Rosie. I think Ahnuld does have a little more political clout than, say, Gallagher or Larry "Don't Shoot" Flynt. My biggest fear is that there will be so many on the ballot, the votes will be sooooo split, that the Porn Chick ends up in the governor's mansion...only this time, she's there legitimately.

The split vote problem is a distinct possibility. It's a wacky race when the guy who started the whole recall thing decides to drop out!

On to Star Wars related notes, is the Atlanta area the only area with a distinct Star Wars distribution problem? I'm even having trouble finding the books that are supposed to be out! (And since the books are my thing, that's pretty wild.)

    Howdy, folks!

Sice last year's life-threatening injury went over so well, I decided to try agin this year. But this time, I wanted more of a performance-art quality to it, so when I swerved to miss a dog in the road a couple of weeks ago, and that telephone pole was *right there*, inspiration hit -- at about 60 mph. Let me tell you, inspiration HURTS. Anyway, after two weeks in the hospital, I'm back in action. I keep this up, they're going to start offering me frequent flyer miles.

Next year, I'm going to try for a shooting, or possibly some sort of bomb-related injury. Cheers!

Well, i am going to jump in on this one....I am an Arnie fan...not sure about the politics thing, but, if he holds true to some of his past endevours, he might do okay for a term. Kids would most likely benefit the most, but, only time will tell.

i have Hyperspace, but, no time to look at it lately. Mandy, talk to your IT guy and bat those eyes at him. I just got a great kit and ron, our local club pres. put it together for me. Just did a little case-mod today and it is great!!! Already have the flat LCD screen when my trinitron died 31 days after the warranty went out.
Okay have a b-day party to finish for our SW club pres. tomorrow...yep!! got a great SW cake also. Had to find one, but, our Publix supermarkets do a great job. See you all soon at DC...20 days

Sereana, thanks for the shout out to Publix. I have worked there for 17 years. It is nice to know we still make folks happy.

Mandy, just smile that cute smile of yours at your new boss and demand that they give you decent tools to work with.
BTW does anyone know when JediReject is going to finish the current storyline on the sprinkles thread?

Technoviper, dude you have to take better care of yourself. You know those telephone poles have a tendency to jump out in front of unsuspecting drivers. [face_devil] [face_laugh] ;)
Seriously, I am glad you are on the mend. Speedy recovery!

Howdy to everyone! I will try and stop by more often.
    On Arnold:
Arnold isn't the first celeb to run for office and won't be the last. He is married to a Kennedy after all. The porn star and Gary Coleman are just looking for publicity and are getting it. I for one am glad I don't live in LaLa land.

Mandy, sorry about the computer! I totally can empathize. At my new job we just got a memo that we can no longer go to the internet. It will be locked as of Monday. They are providing one computer in the break room for our use during lunch. They have also announced they will be monitoring our email and we can not send or receive any personal mail. Nice huh?

Wow, they are getting strict with your internet and e-mail aren't they? That's too bad.

As for my computer, one of the guys here at the office has added more memory and will be adding a new video card this week, so things are improving. :)

As for the California governors race, I will say that the state can do much worse than electing Arnold for governor. In interviews he seems to sincerely want to change things for the better. Right now, he is probably one of the better candidates.

However, if I were Arnold, I may have waited until the next regular election to run for the office of governor. Because no matter what the new governor of California does, he still isn't going to be able to clean things up fast enough for the citizens of that state.

Stacey, I'm guessing that it might be after Dragon*Con before JediReject finishes his current storyline in the sprinkles thread. I could be wrong, however.

    Re: The Cali governor's race...

There are too many celebrities who feel that being famous somehow gives their opinion some weight, regardless of the lack of merit of that opinion (Martin Sheen, Barb Striesand, and so forth). These are the clowns who will make it difficult for Arnie, even if he does care and does have good ideas -- and he very well might; he was instrumental in getting Proposition 49 passed (the after-school program funding issue) and also Proposition 187, which refused social services for illegal immigrants.

Add to that the fact that he's the most popular candidate right out of the gate, and all the oter candidaates will probably gang up on him to take him out of the running first... the Democrats will say he's too Republican, the Republicans will say he's not Republican enough (he's outspoken on supporting gay rights and abortion) -- and then of course, there's the legitimate complaint... does he have the experience to do this? All in all, Arnold's going to have a tough campaign (nowhere near as tough as Gary Coleman's, but still).

Of course, he could point out that the last actor who got the job turned out to be a pretty good governor, and a pretty darn fine President (even though Arnold couldn't set his hopes that high).

And I hope that his first official act as governor is to step on that slug Larry Flynt once and for all.

Anyway, once my Legions of Terror are in place and I've declared myself benevolent dictator, this will all be moot. [face_devil]

    Topic? Since when do we need a topic on this thread? 8-}

    My question of the day:
Summer colds. Wacky fun? Or curse from some Darksider?

Personally, I think there's a Darksider out there who has it in for me.

Hmmm...I thought that I was the only one with Legions of Terror. ;)

And for the record, this is one Dark Lady who had nothing to do with cursing anyone with a summer cold. :p

Heck, I wouldn't wish a summer cold on my worst enemy. Well, okay, maybe my *worst* enemy. [face_devil] :p

Too late, some Darksider got me with that dadgum summer cold. Sniffles, sore throat, coughing, etc. Lots of fun in the 95+ degree heat and daily thunderstorms. But I will be well by Dragon!

Yes, it was great to find that Publix had a very nice Star Wars cake. I prefer their cakes anyway. We had a great time and even had the local Star Trek club come and we will be getting together at DC for one of those all night partys.
Technoviper, I hope you are doing well, as a nurse I feel for those folks that egt injured so bad that they now have to spend time in a hospital. I left 6 years ago and do peds home care. Still do vents, trachs, etc. but on my terms and one on one.

My sympathies to those with summer colds... I haven't gotten one yet this year (knock on wood!), maybe I'll be lucky and avoid it alltogether.

On another note, I am moving in to my dorm this week/weekend, though I will be at the meeting Saturday. And Barbie is nearing completion! *cackles madly*
