    Yes, very well put, Cerrabore.

Also, I'd love to hear whatever was originally written for that scene. I hope we get it if we ever get a proper ROTS OST release.

    To each thier own!

EDIT: To those who have said so, how is this track upbeat?
I totally agree that something darker and possibly more IMish would
    have been better, but upbeat??
    It's not like "Lando's Palace" was playing.[face_dancing]

    LOL!

    I'd love to see the march/order 66 montage re-scored with Lando's Palace!

When people are marching, Williams usually matches their tempo in his music. A great example of this is "The Trek" from The Lost World: Jurassic Park, which, incidentally, was dropped from the film. "The Arena" isn't even close to the beat of the clone troopers. That's just one reason why it feels wrong.

Wow. And here I thought I'd find people appreciating the music in Star Wars. Seems I was wrong. It seems that it is sadly true what they say about the internet these days.

Don't you have better things to do than bitch about how John Williams (freakin John Williams for Christ's sake!!!) should have scored the movies the way you wanted him to. He's freakin John Williams!!!

Henceforth, I shall waste no more time chatting with the likes of you.

inkpen, if you would take the time to read all the comments, you would understand that the "bitching" is about having sound editors track in music that was not specifically scored by Williams for that scene.

Tomato, Tomahto. His facts may be a bit skewed, but I think he's more right than wrong about this... the Star Wars saga may be filled with what we'd consider 'missed opportunities,' but that doesn't make what we have wrong or bad (until George Lucas says so in the next SE, of course ;) ), and it would probably be more constructive to talk about what's there now instead of crying over spilled milk. (Unless, of course, someone here has connections with Williams or Burrt...)

No, that's not true. The whole point of all this discussion is that the actual score is not a complete and pure (unedited) Williams score.

I think it's more than vaild to criticize a work for it's perceived shortcomings. I don't call that "crying over spilled milk," personally.

was anything written for that scene? i thought the whole reason they track music is because they don't have time to compose and record anything.

I don't know, I'm curious about that too.

    Sometimes, but not always.
The soundtracks for all 3 OT films, ESB and ROTJ especially, and even the
'Ultimate Edition' of TPM have a wealth of music composed and recorded for
the films, but eventually not used.

No music was recorded for that scene. Whether any was written is anyone's guess.

definately a place for a march though. preferrably timed to the marching of the troops. what they have currently is the marching sound timed with the tracked music, which isn't timed with the actual marching.

Yes, I agree GK, this is not about John Williams not doing his job as much as it is sound editors thinking they know what they are doing. I really think sound editors should be qualified composers also, becuase they seem often to think they know what they are doing for tracking things like this when they frequently dampen down the quality. John Williams does a wonderful job, but just as any other composer gets short changed, it seems like there is only one director out there who really love the music and tries very hard not to cut any of it, and we all know the famous duo I'm talking about.

Lucas sat in on the final Mix...considering there is 20 people sitting in on it, someone should have said something about it just not fitting.

Just because the filmmakers thought it worked doesn't necessarily make it the right cinematic choice.

Here is an idea i had tell me what you think. I put some new music in place of the Arena Music during Anikan's March on the Temple. And it is not the imperial march. Give it a look and tell me what you think. I need some feedback.

P.S. Divx Player and Windows Media Player will play it.

Where's that music from? It's good, but... to be honest, I think the original still works better.
