    Calia Ramos
    Emancipator, Cargo Hold

"We done kissing up to one another?" Treyax spoke rather rudely as he stepped into the cargo hold in time to see Calia and Kondarr shaking hands and the words that passed between them. "We have an Imperial control station to infiltrate full of troops we're going to have to blast through in order to get the sensor logs." Balancing his shotgun on his shoulder, the Devaronian continued, "The signal is being sent to the Dissenter as we speak and our pilot is dropping the ramp for us. We have a job to do so we're gonna do this hard and fast."

He pointed towards to Kondarr. "You're gonna blow the doors that we can't open." Next was Ducal. "You shoot anyone in our path." Tavil. "You get those sensor logs." And finally he pointed to Calia. "And you make sure that we can at least limp our way back to the ship once we have them. Are we clear on that?"

The anger at Treyax subsided as she rose to follow him. The anticipation of a mission had began to set in. Her heart beat in her chest as they began to creep into the empty hangar. She glanced at the private out of the corner of her eye. In her mind she played around images of him laying in her arms. Dying. She had no idea if she would be able to keep herself in check if Arsin was injured severely. Something about him made her want to see him around more. It could turn into something more. . .

?It?s so. . .quiet in here.?

Vash nodded as the captain left. He reached down and pulled out his S-5 heavy pistol, known as the Naboo blaster in other quarters, checking the power supply, the liquid cable and ascension spike. Hopefully he wouldn't need to use it. He holstered the weapon, ready to fire, set to kill. He activated his HUD; it had shut down as a safety-precaution during the landing sequence. On the right side of the viewport he pulled up his surveillance suite. He had holocams on the interior and exterior of his ship. He watched the commandos lock and load and head for the landing ramp.
He surveyed the docking bay on the cameras, not a soul in the place. He assumed it was the elicit cargo he was supposedly delivering to the commander here.

On the left side of the viewport the ship was running through its post-flight check list, an abbreviated version actually, the ship would be hot if they had to take off quickly. Seeing that everything was in order he rose and went to the locker in the back of the cockpit. He pulled out a baggy jumpsuit and climbed in. It was a dirty-blue and had someones name on the right breast, he used it for off-loading his cargo on planets where the populace wasn't exactly trust worthy. Imperials counted on that note. He pulled on some thick gloves and then activated the security suite, the comm unit was alert him if anyone approached the ship.

Vash moved around the crowded cargo hold, he actually did have the cargo the commander had ordered but he also had tons more cargo, on purpose it would take awhile to shift through it all.

    Emancipator Cargo Hold

Treyax, the Devaronian, came into the cargo hold of the ship while some of the other team members were chatting endlessly. Tavil moved his head to look, but then put it back down again. He figured that they were about to their destination, but he continued to stare straight at the box in front of him. He had no idea of what was inside it, but he was trying to keep his mind clear by staring blankly and not allowing many stray thoughts to interfere. Who knew what kinds of situations he?d find himself in during this mission?

Treyax started pointing at each team member, adding their part to the overall mission. His own personal goal was to get those sensor logs. If given enough time, he would get those logs. The Imps probably hadn?t encoded them very well, and even if they did, he had some great hacking skills. Only issue was how many guards there would be; hopefully the infantry would be enough to help cover him as he made his move towards where the logs were stored.

Tavil stood up and slowly followed the others towards the landing ramp. He looked outside into the empty hangar; it just seemed too quiet in there. Broken pieces of fighters were sitting around in junk piles, with a few half-completed TIEs held up with various structural supports. If this was an Alliance workshop, he?d get straight to working on those; give him enough time, and he?d put in some good work on getting them operational. But, that wasn?t the mission; the logs were. He didn?t say anything, because there was no reason to. All that was important was getting in an out in one piece. Knowing the Alliance, that probably wouldn?t happen . . . but he could hope.

Thinkin' Hell's a gonna be breakin' in any minute now

"We done kissing up to one another?" Treyax spoke right harshly, not that Alex cared much.

He pointed towards Kondarr. "You're gonna blow the doors that we can't open." Next was Ducal. "You shoot anyone in our path." Tavil. "You get those sensor logs." And finally he pointed to Calia. "And you make sure that we can at least limp our way back to the ship once we have them. Are we clear on that?"

The captain motioned next towards the landing ramp. "We each got a job to do so let's get this done quick."

Alex took one last pull on his cigar, now three fourths smoked, as the others began to file out. "Shoot ev'rythin' in my path, eh? Think I'll be managin' that quite nicelike. I may have ta' transfer. Cap is my kinda people." With that, he flicked his cigar, still burning, across the cargo hold, where it exploded into brilliant orange sparks. Alex stood, grabbed Susan by the top handle, threw the cannon over his shoulder, made sure the rest of his gear was in place, and followed the others out of the YT-2000.

He was greeted by a barren hanger, with only a few scrapped TIEs and the like lyin' around. Couldn't make much of the mechanical stuff personally. The captain had nailed Alex's specialty quite proper-like. He shot things. He shot things a lot. It was a tough job, but, heck, someone had to do it, right? Who better than him.

As far as the hanger bay was concerned, Alex didn't like it. Not one bit. As the medic said, it was quiet. Now, Alex didn't mind himself some quiet. Could be mighty relaxin' to sit and hear nothin' but the smolderin' of a cigar. But that was one kinda silence. This. Nah, this was the other kind. The kind that had settled over the frozen plains of Hoth just barely a month ago. Stillness, calm, but with that underlying tension. Yeah, somethin' was 'bout ta happen. Generally, those somethin's were bad.

Alex reflected, for a brief moment, on Hoth. The snow, the lasers breaking the blue of the sky. The shield generator falling. The mad dash to the transport ships. The crammed flight from the frozen planet, not knowin' if ya were about to be blown into oblivion or not. Seein' other transports blown outta space, but not seein' 'em because you were too busy seein' the faces of the men an' women blasted away from right next ta' ya. People you knew, people you couldn't imagine as bein' dead. People who didn't deserve it half as much as you did. Naw, this, this mission was nothin'. Alex had heard that hell's full of fire an' such, but he knew now. Hell was a frozen waste, with nothin' but death. He'd been there. He'd seen it.

Hoth had done one thing though. Alex's conviction had increased tenfold. After spendin' your whole life searchin', tryin' to figure out if there was more than huntin' a bounty and blastin' away who the boss tells ya' to, it was staggerin' to find somethin' bigger than you. Ta' find somethin' you cared about. Wasn't til Hoth he realized that he hadn't been in it for the Alliance. He'd been in it for her. Yeah. That was it. But, no more, 'cause she was gone now. He needed somethin' else, and he found it, buried in the ice of Hoth. Somethin' that the Empire wouldn't be able to take from him, 'cause he was a Rebel now, through and through. An' Susan was right here by his side. Together, not a one on this station would get to Alex. Me an my own... we be showin' them Imps a thing or two. Just you wait.

Alex took a deep breath and moved further out into the hanger bay. "Right then, Cap. Point the way, an' I'll start shootin'. Way I sees it, Susan an' I have some Imps ta' kill."

    Commander Dinordo Yulafa
    Ambush point

The Transport jumped in front of them, just on time. Yulafa was relived that their inside man had done his job, his silent thanks went out to the man.

"Alright men! You know what to do!" the Commander barked "We move in now! Follow me in formation! I repeat, do not break formation! We take out the guns on the port side first! I don't want to have to make two passes!"

Yulafa hoped his crew would work, they had received information detaling the guns on the craft and he had engineered a plan to fly down each side of the ship once, pull back, and if needed make additional runs. His men were good though, he had made sure of that. He didn't think any additional runs would be needed, the guns were more for holding off till their real defense got there, there would be no support for the enemy.

Each gun was assigned to a pilot and a secondary pilot in case of a loss of someone, which Yulafa prayed would not happen. They made their run on the port side where the other team was also coming in, heading for their targets. Yulafa didn't even see them though, he was focused on his team and his assignment, there were no distractions. He was aware of their presence in case of some unexpected emergency, but they were not even close to the front of his mind.

Yulafa and his squadron made a tight turn and came up across the starboard side, proceeding to take out their targets there as well.

Then they flew back out to check their work.

    Hangar Bay

"All right pilots, unfortunately we find ourselves running into a snag." That was Jal, the squadron leader speaking for everyone. "I've just been informed that while the commando team is in place, the Imps have an extra surprise in their defenses: a minefield. This is a bit of a complication as, as long as those mines are there, we can't expect support from the Zeal or Lancer as was originally planned. So if we want capital ship support, we're gonna have to take them out fast."

Captain Jal?s voice came through his helmet comm as soon as Tayse had finished powering his X-wing up and checking to make sure all the gauges were in the green. The preflight jitters were settling over him. This was a problem that he acquired once he had actually started flying real missions. He would get in the cockpit and get nervous. He had no idea if this happened with other pilots, but it was something he felt would disgrace his species if it ever came out so he kept it a secret. So there he sat, while orders flew over the comm around him and breathed in and out. In. Out. In. Out. Slowly regaining his hunter control over himself. Tayse had this down to a art now. Despite having flown many missions by now he still had to go through this every time. Eventually, it was bound to kill him. He tuned back in to the comm to catch the end of the exchange.

"That it is," Jal replied. "So Blue Flight will focus on hitting those mines as quickly as they can. Red Squadron will assist but as soon as those TIEs launch we're going to have to intercept them before they could hit the B-Wings or our transports. Green Group will hold back with Wraith Group and once we've made an opening they'll make their attack run on the sensor array. Hopefully the jamming equipment will prove effective enough to jam their communications but, either way, we don't want to stay there long. Let's make this quick."

TIEs. Tayse could definitely handle his share of those blasted Imp starfighters. He trusted in his ability and in his own starfighter. Of course he also trusted in his R2 unit to help keep watch over the battlefield and to warn him of impending doom. He didn?t get the attachment of pilots to their R2 units at first. He assumed it was a human weakness, but over the last several months Tayse had developed that attachment. Going into battle with people?

People? Since when was a droid a person?

    "Jumping in three...two...one, jump!"

A thought to dwell on later. Now was time for battle. Tayse put his game face on which was really no different looking than his every day face, but on the inside he was ready. Focused. He grasped the lever and pulled his X-wing into a hyperspace jump as the Captain gave the command. The stars blurred around him and he awaited their destination with a steady determination of survival.

The comm crackled to life and the voice of a pretty lady - at least, he assumed she was pretty judging from her voice - echoed in his ears.

?Red four, if you couldn?t wind up my wing-man before a mission I?d really appreciate it, thanks!?

And feisty too...with maybe just a hint of annoyance. That was good; very good. The whole development elicited a smile to his lips as he lolled his head to the side and glanced out the tinted canopy. He caught sight of Blue Flight across the hangar and the much smaller A-Wing fighters that made up the majority of the group. It was next to impossible to tell which one housed the lovely lady that had answered his call, but he lifted his hand and offered a sloppy salute anyway, hoping it had some sort of impact. "Aww, my apologies," he cooed in a sultry voice over the comm. "It was just a little rubbing - no harm done. Although, you seem to be more offended by it than your wingman over there, which has me wondering about his ability to--"

"Cut the chatter! Squadron leaders, report in."

Dexx scowled at the sudden burst over the comm and settled back into his seat for the long haul. Leave it to the big wigs to butt into your conversation just when it was getting to the best part. He wanted to see the girl riled up - it would've been good for her, especially on the eve of battle. Nothing like going into combat with raging female hormones on your side; that right there was more deadly than any laser cannon or torpedo equipped on their fighters. The Alliance should be thanking him, not scolding him.

And of course, that also meant he had to resort to doing things the hard way. Despite his bravado and harsh demeanor, he truly meant well and now felt obligated to actually hunt her down once they were groundside and offer a genuine apology...maybe. It all depended on how she received him. He wasn't going to go out of his way if he didn't have to.

His internal musings came to a halt at the sound of the squad leader's voice giving last minute instructions concerning the operation. Something about mines and taking out any TIE Fighters in their path - the usual stuff. He concluded by giving the order to jump to lightspeed. Well, at least that would give Dexx plenty of time to mill over his problems...

Easing further back into his chair, Dexx pulled forward on the lever and watched as the stars outside the cockpit canopy blurred into infinity.

Dissenter - Hanger bay/Hyperspace jump point

"Aww, my apologies," he cooed in a sultry voice over the comm. "It was just a little rubbing - no harm done. Although, you seem to be more offended by it than your wingman over there, which has me wondering about his ability to--"

A small grin tugged at the corners of Teagan?s lips. She was about to respond when the siren in the hanger bay suddenly blared to life and a voice from star-fighter command came through all the comms, abruptly cutting off any casual conversation.

?Oh well, There will be plenty time to chat when we are back groundside anyway. Got to focus now?

She mused as the Squadron leaders all reported in. Teagan blew out a slow breath as she booted up her ships systems ready for take off. The hanger doors slowly opened, revealing the black expanse of deep space beyond the atmospheric containment shield that the star fighters would pass through. Blue flight were the last squadron to exit the hanger. Cutting the crafts repulsor lift generators and easing the throttle carefully, the fighter rose up slowly and steadily before she manoeuvred the ship towards the shield. Teagan found herself holding her breath for a few seconds as she piloted the ship through the barrier, a habit she had picked up during her early days of TIE training. She would never forget the anxiousness she felt when she piloted a ship out into space for the first time, made all the worse due to the fact that there was no breathable air within those shield-less orbs, only cold vacuum. At least the A-Wing?s had shields and a breathable cockpit. Once clear of the hanger exit, Teagan relaxed a little and increased the thrust to the crafts two event horizon engines and brought her speed up, Her hands gripped lightly on the control sticks, keeping the ship balanced as she caught up with blue leader and the others. She brought her fighter into formation with the rest of blue flight as the co-ordinates for the hyperspace jump were uploaded to her ship computer. Red squadron?s leader Jal Belson then addressed the fleet of star fighters.

"All right pilots, unfortunately we find ourselves running into a snag?I've just been informed that while the commando team is in place, the Imps have an extra surprise in their defences: a minefield. This is a bit of a complication as, as long as those mines are there, we can't expect support from the Zeal or Lancer as was originally planned. So if we want capital ship support, we're gonna have to take them out fast."

"Our specialty," came the voice of Andria.

Teagan listened to the instructions given, nodding her head slightly in agreement despite there being no-one there to see it.. Blue flight?s primary objective was to get rid of the mines as quickly as possible in order for the squadrons to receive vital capital ship support. It should be a task that blue flight could accomplish easily, however they did not know the number of mines and their exact calibre and level of firepower yet. They would soon enough though as Jal started the countdown to engage their hyper drives. On Jal?s mark, she activated her hyperspace controls. The stars elongated and stretched into spears of white light before the craft rocketed away to its destination.

    The mission was on.

    Hyperspace Jump Route

Once the jump had been made and the streaks of light encompassed his fighter Kev took the brief moment to relax.

"So a couple of mines huh?" He said into the comm. "Any chance they set them up in a nice wide net, and not one of those annoying tight knit ones?" he added as he focused what little shielding his ship had toward the forefront of the fighter, ready to run into anything the Imps might have ready.

He knew the capability of this fighter to take out the mines typically used by the Imps, but at the same time he knew that if they were too close together they'd risk being blasted apart just as soon as they were set off, or worse cause a massive chain reaction that would tear their fleet to pieces. He was hoping that the Empire would make the same error it always did, assume a direct cruiser to cruiser fight and neglect to respect the threat that the Rebel's fighter wings posed to them. What was it about the Empire and not realizing that the smallest things could topple the largest? A single microbe could wipe out an entire species, so why couldn't a single fighter take out a fleet? Sometimes he wondered how the Empire had managed to get as powerful as it had when they seemed so intent on only hiring idiots who couldn't even be bothered with the taking into consideration even the smallest threat.

    Space Around Sensor Array

It was a short jump, only ten minutes at most, and when it felt like the starfighters had just jumped into hyperspace, they were reverting back to real space.

    [image=http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20080717004815/starwars/images/thumb/b/b4/SensorArray-XWA-render.jpg/830px-SensorArray-XWA-render.jpg]

The sensor array lay directly in front of them; a large construct that would allow the Imperials to track whatever ships crossed through the Outer Rim whether they be Imperial, Rebel, civilian, pirate, or otherwise. Its continued existence would keep the Dissenter Task Force's movements restricted and, thus, make it easier for any Imperial task force to locate them, chase them down, and destroy them. It needed to go and a couple salvos of proton torpedoes from Green Group's B-Wing would destroy it. A replacement array would take months and that would give the Rebels plenty of time to move, plan, and choose their next target to assault.

They had to get through the mines first. The mine layers had long-since finished their jobs and now over two dozen mines were hovering around the sensor array. Though the mines were most effective against capital ships, each mine possessed a laser cannon for anti-starfighter capabilities. Considering that the laser cannons only really shot at two-second intervals, a couple mines wouldn't pose much of a threat to starfighters. They were unshielded and a burst of laser fire could easily take them out. However, it was nonetheless intimidating and a dangerous sight where, upon drifting closer, the X-Wings and A-Wings found themselves flying into a storm of green lasers as two dozen mines shot at them.

"Green and Wraith Group hold fast," Jal commed over the squadrons' comm channels. "Red and Blue, take out those mines!"

The control station's TIE Fighters had yet to launch but the pilots were now rushing to get them in the air to attack the Rebel fighters. They had a small window of opportunity and Jal, leading the way, danced his X-Wing through the storm of green lasers of the minefield. One managed to strike his fighter but the X-Wing's shields absorbed it easily. The same could not be said for the mine when Jal fired a quad shot and all four lasers impacted the mine, destroying it.

One down. Twenty-three more to go.

"This is Wraith One," Jenson spoke. "All Wraiths, start jamming."

Keeping out of range of the mines, the four ATR-6 transports of Wraith Group started to spread out to take positions. At the order of Jenson, the jamming equipment was activated on three of the transports and Imperial transmissions were immediately silenced.

    Three of the transports.

In the back of the transported designated as Wraith One, sparks flew from one of the consoles as a sign that something clearly wasn't working. Having obeyed Tevran's earlier order, the dark-haired human known as Jasmin had quickly kicked over the toolbox before retrieving the requested spool and power wrench. Whatever repairs that the surgeon-turned-mechanic had hoped to accomplish, however, couldn't have possibly been done during the short ten-minute jump through hyperspace and as the jamming equipment remained offline, it was clear that "messy" had been the polite term to describe the installation of the jamming equipment.

"Oh that's not good," Jasmin muttered unhelpfully, her hazel-eyes looking to the sparking equipment. "Three transports should be enough to jam their equipment but we don't know if the Imperials will be able to boost their signals enough to break through. And if one of the transports are taken out..."

Without the extra insurance, the Imperials could yet contact reinforcements and this battle could very well turn into a massacre.

    Aboard the Demeter

    Ghost exploded into action.

He lunged at the hapless crewman, slamming his elbow into the centre of his chest to drive all the breath from his lungs. The man staggered back, eyes wide, and Ghost followed up by grabbing his right arm and twisting it behind his back. That gave him enough leverage to hammer his head into the wall.

The crewman reeled, but stayed conscious. Ghost was, unfortunately, not an exceptional hand-to-hand fighter: he was fast and had a great working knowledge of anatomy, but he lacked the weight and musculature to be able to hit someone and make them really feel it. Unlike Emil, he couldn't knock a man out with a single blow.

Fortunately, he hadn't counted on it. He had just needed to buy a few seconds.

Ghost let the crewman go (he staggered and collapsed against the wall, glassy-eyed) and quickly scooped up one of the blaster pistols. He flicked it to stun - double-checked the setting, because it would be a shame to go through all that effort to keep the crewman alive only to screw it up now - and fired.

    Arsin Kondarr, Sapper

After their first few moments of caution, alarms sounded everywhere. Captain Treyax, undeterred, led the squad out of the hangar and into a hallway, assuming the alarms were because of the starfighter attack. Alright, well, so far so good. Not really like Hoth. Of course, the shooting hasn?t even started yet. They continued to follow the captain into the base interior. He called a halt as they were about to round a corner, and the captain peered around it to make sure it was clear. Apparently it was, as he sounded the all clear.

They rounded the corner. BANG Treyax?s shotgun blasted into the guard?s chest, ripping through it and painting the walls a dark red. Ah, there's the sickening violence I'd been expecting... ?I hope they didn?t hear that,? the captain muttered. How would anyone not have heard that? Arsin thought as the guards up the hallway turned and started shooting at them. The rebel squad retreated back around the corner as deadly lances of energy streaked towards them, barely missing the captain. Acting quickly, Arsin pulled a round flashbang out of his pack, made some quick angle estimates, and tossed the flashbang around the corner. He intended it to bounce off the far wall and land squarely in the middle of the enemy guards, but his estimates may have been off.

I Knew Hell Wasn't That Far Away...

Alarms began to blare, but it didn't look quite like any Imps were comin' to the hanger. Alex figured that was good enough as he followed the Cap out into the hallway. So far, seemed like the Captain had been right. Right sharp of him to figure that the alarm was for the fighters, and truth be told it was a smart plan to begin with. Not that Alex was feelin' the inclination to be announcin' that all vocal-like just now. He had a bit more important things on his mind, like payin' attention so as he could be doin' the shootin' 'fore anyone else got the notion to start first.

Things seemed to be goin' quite well thus far, and Alex had to fight to keep from gettin' too complacent. He kept Susan up an' ready. Experience had taught him that somethin' always goes wrong. There was no such thing as a plan goin' off without a kink somewhere in the works. Important thing was to be makin' pretty well sure that the hitch didn't involve you gettin' shot up, or any other type of unpleasantness befallin' you or your own. That was one lesson ingrained in Alex before he even thought 'bout joinin' up with the Rebellion, but events since had certainly worked to reinforce that thinkin' in the soldier's mind.

Somehow the boarding party managed to make it through twistin' hallways without drawin' no attention to themselves. Truth be told, Alex was shocked that someone hadn't been happenin' by and sounded an alarm by now. Thus, when the Captain pulled them up and peeked 'round a corner, Alex got a funny feelin' in his gut. Nothin' too concrete, and nothin' too certain. Probably just a mix of caution and down right paranoia. So, as Alex stood there, watchin' some Imp security personnel run by all quick like, he pulled Susan up and got himself ready to open fire. One, then another, then a third, fourth, and fifth ran past. Daft folk, honestly. Couldn't even be bothered to check the hallways 'round them. Must be busy.

It was about here when Alex figured that he had been holdin' his breath, so Alex breathed out in a sigh of relief. The Captain seemed to share the sentiment, and urged them forward, roundin' a corner and disappearin' from sight.

Alex had been followin' the Captain quite close since the hangar bay, figurin' if he was to be doin' the shooting before anyone else, that'd be the place ta' be, so when the Cap rounded the corner, Alex was movin' along right behind him. He'd just reached the corner when he heard the unmistakable sound of a shotgun bein' fired.

Now, Alex never claimed to be a right smart man, but he knew when to let caution take the better of him. He stopped movin' and was pokin' 'round the corner when he heard the Captain mummer, "I hope they didn't hear that." Blaster bolts zinged past Alex's head and through the Captain's horns, makin' it quite clear that they had, in point of fact, heard the shotgun blast. Not really surprisin', as that gun could wake a man from a comma.

Figurin' that his head was mighty vulnerable just now, Alex ducked back into the hallway, barely gettin' out of the way as the Captain dashed back to find some cover. The sound of approachin' footsteps rang down the hallway, an' Alex had a short second to be figurin' what he'd ought to be doin'. "Right then. We're up, Susan." Alex moved towards the corner, bringin' Susan up as he made to round it and open fire.

Somethin' sailed over his head and bounced off a wall, and thankfully Alex figured what exactly it was with time enough to slide to a stop, almost fallin', and scurry back to the cover of the hallway. He was safely behind cover--barely--when a resoundin' BOOM came from behind him. He slid to a stop, cursing under his breath for a moment before glancin' quickly at the private.

"Frak, kid! Warnin'!" Alex shouted before he could even think what it was he was sayin'. Not that he was actually mad at the kid. Circumstances were a mite stressful just now, and surprises upset Alex when nerves were runnin' high. He didn't wait for a response though, before he spok

The sudden noise that followed her whisper made Calia jump. She cursed under her breathe as she put one hand to her chest. She could feel her heart pounding inside her chest.

"Not anymore," Treyax spoke and sent an amused glance towards her. He didn't seem worried at all though. "That must be our starfighters; hopefully those mines won't give them too much trouble. "He waved the group towards the exit of the hangar. "Let's get a move on. The Imperials are going to be too distracted by our pilots that they'll forget all about us. For how long I can't say so let's make this quick."

Alarms blared as Calia walked with the rest of the group. Even in the roaring noise, not one Imperial had been spotted. Perhaps something was leaning in their favor . . . Before Calia could even realize what had happened, Treyax had bumped into a soldier. Gasping, she could only watch as Treyax blew the soldier away. As blood spurted from the wound, Calia glanced around.

"I hope they didn't hear that," Treyax murmured.

The blaster bolt that narrowly avoided blowing Treyax?s head apart. Calia couldn?t hear the rest of what Treyax said as the sound around her was filled with blaster fire and alarms. Arsin threw something, which bounced off the opposite wall and missed Ducal by a couple of inches. The resounding explosion knocked Calia against the wall. She watched Ducal run out to the Imperials, but she stayed behind. All she had was a lousy pistol and her medical skills.

Please don?t do anything stupid, Arsin. I was really starting to like you.

"Frak, kid! Warnin'!" the El-Tee shouted at Arsin. "Sorry!" he said, though he doubted anyone could hear him over the explosion. He hadn't counted on Alex skidding out into the hallway behind the captain. Apparently his calculations had been correct, though, as the El-Tee ran back out from cover and, yelling something indeterminable, opened up on the security guards. So much for stealth... Callia had been thrown against the wall by his flashbang, so he moved to help her up, then checked around the corner to see the El-Tee's handy work. As he did so, he again saw the body of the guard Treyax had blown away. Blood was still leaking from the body, and it was splattered everywhere around it. The shotgun blast from point-blank range had killed him instantly it seemed, and the expression on the man's face was one of shock. Arsin shuttered and pulled his gaze away. Focus, Arsin. Come on, don't lose your nerve now, that'll get you killed.

As Denton moved another cargo container he hoped the Dementer had received the burst-warning about the mine layers. He wouldn't know until they got back up into space, these kinds of commando ops never had any reassurances. He glanced down the boarding ramp at his escort.

"Gentlemen, you may want to think about concealing yourselves. A small drop like this does not warrant two armed guards." Vash suggested.

He picked up another cargo container and moved it to the edge of the cargo hold. He had finished moving around his cargo, now he had to off load some of it.

Suddenly, he heard warning klaxxons blaring across the facility. It had begun, hopefully up in space rather than down here with the commando team. Vash carefully went along with his business, anyone trying to surprise them would find just another freighter off-loading cargo. Little did they know, while on the surface the containers Cash was off-loading were stocked with cigars and other contraband, just under that were four proton torpedoes, all wired together. He had six boxes like that, they would make a spectacular explosion when he sent the signal.

Hallway, Control Station of the Imperial Sensor Array

It had just seemed too quiet to Tavil to be good news. Certainly the klaxons were nowhere near quiet, but there had been no sound of Imperial troops yet. Hopefully this meant that none of those cursed stormtroopers were anywhere near the Rebel strike team?s position, and thus this would go off without a hitch. Of course, that would never happen with this crew. They always knew how to find trouble. Accordingly, Tavil put a finger on his blaster pistol; it was all he would have for defense in case this became a firefight. He was no fighter, just a techie and mechanic. Sure he had experience with ordinance, but there wasn?t exactly any explosive material around here, so his blaster pistol and the soldiers were the only protection he was going to get when things got hot. He just had to hope that they did their job so he could do his.

Too bad the Rebels could never sneak around without setting off alarms. The Devaronian squad leader had run smack-dab into an Imperial guard, who he promptly shot and splattered all over the nearby wall with a point-blank shotgun blast. Tavil had to look away from the bloody corpse, because it was certainly a horror of war. He had never been a soldier, never had seen someone die like that. Every time he had had someone die, he had always been a distance away, the life being sucked out of them while he was too far away to prevent said death from occurring. But none of those had come remotely close to this kill; it was just too gruesome. It would be hard for him to get that out of his mind in the coming minutes.

Now the Imperial guards at the other end of the hallway were starting to shoot at the Rebel force. Now they had woken up the entire station; that just figured. Tavil grabbed his pistol and prepared to shoot any enemy that came his way. With his small frame, it would be harder for a guard running at full speed to nail him before Tavil could get in a shot himself. Although he wasn?t a very good shot, Tavil?s calculations told him he would have the upper-hand in that situation. But, given that more Imps were probably coming to this area to see what was going on, he figured that that advantage was negligible. They would have to break through so he could get to work on downloading those sensor logs.

The private threw a grenade into the hallway, which almost nailed the gruff soldier Ducal in the head as it bounced off the wall. It exploded at the most inopportune moment, and sent Tavil flying backwards into a wall. A flash of pain shot through his body, and he felt dizzy for several seconds. As he tried to regain his bearings, he was able to see the Ducal step out into the hallway, his gun ready to fire. He certainly had guts.

There's an occasional state of euphoria that I experience that I like to refer to as "coming home."

Generally, it involves a combination of several key factors: anti-hallucinatory tranquilizers begin to wear off, something is fighting something else, liberal amendments to my vows of nonviolence are taken. Alcohol, as was the case right now with my flask of fine Corellian whiskey, is often involved. My wife, rest her soul, wouldn't take to kindly to me half-doubling back on my word to her like this, but I reckon that she'd be halfway to groovy with me kriffing up some Imperial bastards what good, and hell, the sensation's just so kriffing nostalgic.

I mean, honestly, put yourself in my shoes - doctor/pharmacist trapped on a relatively defenseless frigate and the captain asks, nay begs, you to leap in the guns and start a-blazing, and you just happen to have once been the deadliest son of a whore in the whole goddamn galaxy? You gonna say no to that? You're a cold rat bastard if you can screw yourself up to say no to my face. I'd probably admire your guts and then get all nonviolent on your sensitive parts. Start with right under the armpits. Improvise from there.

Best part? I'm a goddamn certified medical physician, which means that I can slap some bacta on your ass and start all over again in 6-8 weeks and don't go using that leg too much y'hear? in an endless cycle that eventually leaves you a broken, sorrowful shell.

Anyway Shmuck, the point of this long, rambling tirade is to help fulfill my minimum word count and also to let you know that I'd just pegged a transport where the goddamn twin suns of goddamn Tatooine didn't goddamn sign if you goddamn get my goddamn point. Goddamn repetition makes it goddamn easy to up the all important goddamn wordcount. Editor'll chew my goddamn head off. [And I did - Ed.] How'd I get in this gun station? No kriffing idea. Goddamn tranquilizers they're killing me! Except they aren't.

It occurs to me that my standard repertoire of insults about chemicals has begun to collapse due to a lack of drugs in my system. Ironic.

After that there was some comm chatter about... I dunno, boarding or something. Not my department. "I don't get paid enough to risk life and limb to maybe kill some fascist rat bastards with disadvantaged arms... wait, yes I do," and it occurred to me that somewhere along the way I had started talking aloud. "Yo what's your face... Azarillo? Azazaz? Asmodeus? Azar! Azar, you want any expert medical accompaniment on this fish fry? Uh... no offense intended."

    Mine Field

The fear subsided as the stars returned to normal. The X-wing flew into a battle zone. Flashes of light reached out to touch the ships as they headed towards their target. The fingers crept closer to three flight and clawed at the shields harmlessly. The X-wings of Red Flight possessed shields strong enough to stop grazing lasers from the enemy mines.

Tayse led three flight with Red 10 on his flank towards a group of mines that were their designated targets. The lasers from the mines continued to reach out towards the fighters as they trekked ever closer to their target.

    beep, whoop

Kilter tweedled at Tayse and a message scrolled across the screen. He glanced at it noting that Captain Jal had opened fire on the mines and taken one out.

?Ok, three flight. These mines are ours!? He commed to his pilots before flipping his X-wing and diving underneath the mines. His ship was alive and he juked his way closer to his target. Kilter beeped a steady tone as Tayse got a targeting lock as the mine came into view after he dove and came around. He hit the trigger and thought For the honor of greyskull! before jerking his ship away. He didn?t see the mine explode, but Kilter?s cheerful whoo was all the confirmation he needed.

His shields took several more hits from another mine as he increased speed and spun away from the mines. It was only then that he looked to make sure his wingman was there with him. Sure enough tucked up behind him was Red 10.

?The next one is yours, Ten?

He settled in behind his wingman and checked his display. Several other mines were dark or darkening as they winked out of existence leaving space in a blaze and blinding flash. Tayse evened his shields out again, shunting some power from speed into them to make sure they held against the laser fire. His hands moved swiftly over the controls as he followed Ten back towards the mines.

Since he had left his home and learned to fly he had always marveled at the beauty of another ship flying with him. He watched as Ten flew through the lasers. No. Flew was not an adequate word. Ten danced with the lasers. There was a beauty about how he maneuvered his ship closer to the mines. This dance did not end in beauty though. The danced ended in violence as Ten?s lasers sheared through the mine surgically taking out a threat to the rebels.

The star fighters came out of hyperspace a mere ten minutes after their initial deployment. As the stars around her reverted back to normal Teagan frowned a little as her teal eyes fixed on the large metal construct that hung in space before them. Between them and the sensor array, the aforementioned mines. Red leaders voice came in strong through her headset

"Green and Wraith Group hold fast, Red and Blue, take out those mines!"

Jal lead the assault, his X-Wing practically dancing through the lasers as he closed the gap between the ships and mine field. Teagan switched over to the blue flight frequency

    ?Blue Four. On my wing!?

She said though her comm. Bringing up her tactical screen, her sensors picked up friendly forces and enemy obstacles alike. Friendlies were depicted as small green avatars, imperial hardware depicted as red. Pumping a little bit more energy into the forward shields, she pressed down firmly on the accelerator, boosting her speed as she and the rest of blue flight sped towards the mine field with their red squadron comrades. The mines had become alerted to the rebel crafts presence and the anti star-fighter defences affixed to them activated. A wave of green laser fire came flying towards the advancing ships. Teagan jinxed and juked her fighter though the laser storm with seasoned efficiency. A few of the bolts grazed her shields but not enough to do any proper damage as they got closer to the mines

Her targeting computer got a lock on the first of the mines, a constant tone filled the cockpit and the targeting reticule flashed green. She fired her laser cannons, the superheated energy zipping towards her target. The two bolts impacted heavily with the mine, burning a hole through its outer casing before blowing up in a large ball of fiery gas and twisted metal. The shockwave of the resulting explosions buffeted her small fighter for a few moments. But she regained control and straightened up her ship, ready to acquire another target in her crosshairs.

A rock and a hard place

"Oh that's not good," Jasmin muttered unhelpfully, her hazel-eyes looking to the sparking equipment. "Three transports should be enough to jam their equipment but we don't know if the Imperials will be able to boost their signals enough to break through. And if one of the transports are taken out..."

"Hey, that's great, Commander Obvious," Tevran barked, "I'm pretty aware of what could go wrong, I'm more interested in not letting that happen."
Getting on his knees he rummaged through the toolbox without any semblance of control or any attempt to remain calm, scattering unneeded tools and supplies in a frantic search for a sign to his solution. "Jenson," He commed over an open line, his face nearing a visage of despair, "We've got a bit of a technical problem," the malfunctioning jammer cut loose with another shower of sparks, bathing both Jasmin and Tevran in a brief orange glow, "What are our chances of three jammers keeping this whole thing together?".
Unfortunately, although the question had been meant for Jenson's ears only, the doctor neglected to inform the transport pilot over a closed channel which allowed all the other pilots in their respective starfighters to recieve the news that only three of the four transports were successfully jamming. The risk of future Imperial involvement beyond what they were dealing with now increased to a percentage that would make any sensible man (or woman) worry.

Running nervous fingers through his beard he bent over an exposed paneling and returned to soldering more mistakes in the wiring left behind by the techies. "Do we have any spare sync switches?" He asked Jasmin quickly, touching a hydro-wrench to one of the sources of the sparking. He was shocked as a result. "FRAKKIN' SITHSPIT!!!" He cursed, shaking his injured hand, anger getting the better of him he snapped at the hapless Jasmin, "Where are those sync switches?"

Following the example of pilots like Teagan and Tayse, the rest of the fighters of Blue Flight and Red Squadron scattered and started hunting for mines. Though there came the call of shields that were being whittled down by the laser fire of the mines, there were no reports of destroyed starfighters or pilots that were forced to eject. Despite what fire the mines poured on at the starfighters, the speed and agility of the X-Wings and A-Wings allowed them to practically dance within the storm of green bolts and what fire they couldn't dodge was soaked up by their deflector shields.

Within thirty seconds, half if not most of the mines had already been shot down by the speedy fighters. But it was after thirty seconds that a new problem came up.

"We got new contacts," came the voice of Red Leader. "TIEs have been launched from the control station!"

And as can be seen on the monitors of each individual fighter, it was three squadrons of fighters that flew towards the battle; the number that had been predicted that the station possessed. Only twenty-eight of those thirty-six fighters were your standard TIE Fighters however while the final eight were the Bombers. Fortunately, none of them were the feared TIE Interceptors that, despite lacking shields, had speed that could make them a match for any Rebel starfighter in the hands of the right pilot. While the Rebel fighters continued to whittle down the mines, the TIEs raced towards them.

The bombers, however, were trailing a good distance behind the fighters. While it was obvious that the TIE Fighters were faster than the bombers, their placement was obvious. Once the fighters engaged the X-Wings and A-Wings, the bombers would peel around the dogfight and aim directly for the jamming transports of Wraith Group where their torpedoes would be most effective.

?Engage those TIEs! A few fighters can remain to finish clearing the mines but I need most of Red Squadron turning to engage! Green Group, you are clear to engage the bombers if they make a move towards the transports!?

Like with the opening assault on the mines, the X-Wings of Red Squadron did a quick turn to face the oncoming TIEs. A head-to-head run as these kind of dogfights tended to start with but with their shields the X-Wings had an advantage. Still, they were outnumbered over two to one and with those odds the bombers may end up being a lesser concern then the one about their survival.

    Not so for Wraith Group.

?Three is pushing it,? was Jenson?s reply to Tevran?s question. ?I mean from what I can tell, the jamming is going perfectly but we don?t know if the Imps can boost their signal past it.? A pause. ?Oh and we got bombers coming in. If they manage to take out one of the transports then it?s definitely not going to be enough.?

Jasmin heard that and that got the poor young woman running. At Tevran?s demands for spare synch switches, she scrambled around the transport, opening tool boxes and tosses tools and parts every which way until she found the required items that she clutched desperately before handing over to the surgeon-turned-mechanic.

?They?re getting closer by the way,? Jenson spoke again.

Inwardly, Ghost shook his head. He should've known Commodore Alder wouldn't have told him everything. After all, he had only been a member of the Rebellion since just before Hoth's fall, and member of was perhaps stretching it a little - he'd needed a place to lie low, the Rebellion needed good slicers, and they didn't ask questions. Not asking, however, was not the same as not wondering, and this was probably as much of a test of his loyalty as anything else.

Well. He was just fine with that.

Ghost tapped in a code and pressed his palm on the lock. The door beeped, unlocking. He smirked; not all his intrusions over the last three days had been false. Along the way, he'd disabled the ship's self-destruct, blocked the bridge crew from wiping the ship's logs, and given himself access to every area of the ship.

I was told there would be fighting. I want my goddamn money back!

Because you see, Shmuck, there's no fighting at all, but rather, I get a smooth walk towards the cargo bay and then a tremendous tease as what I think will turn into a real rip-snortin' good time turns out to be a false alarm because they're are men. Naturally. I chew my pipe's nub - not because I'm angry or anything, because certainly a doctor of medicine should be pleased with such a spectacularly low body count. I'm so not angry there's a mild grinding noise and I think to myself "Terrific."

Except I'm not thinking, I'm saying that out loud. Crap. It would seem that my antipsychotic medications make it incredibly hard to preserve the sanctity of my internal monologue. "Extremely cumbersome. I might need to not violence them all. Did I just say that out loud? Did I just say that out loud? Bastard son of a whore."

"Well apparently my internal monologue isn't functioning properly so we're all just going to have to deal with the ramifications that come with me composing articles in my head as events unfold. It's the antipsychotics, you see. Had an episode. Don't do drugs kids. They're awesome. Until they stop being awesome. Which is quickly. Because they're not awesome. Shouldn't have led off with that. Anyway you! I make my way over to the young punk who works with terminals for a living. Wait, no."

I hit myself in the head a few times until the proper place of the words sorts itself out - probably. This is the perennial problem of the gonzo journalist - you get so involved in the subject that you start to talk as if you were writing the article on the spot - because you are. "Good job, Geist. Gesundheit. Guest. Ghost! Ghost. Good job, Ghost. I'll be sure to mention your exemplary door opening in my report. Top notch. Really top notch. You could make a career of it. Although you took out all the guards on your own, which is a bit of a pi - I mean, an excellent display of initiative. And I see they're all alive. A good call."

And then somehow, for reasons, dearest Shmuck, that I will never be able to explain if I live to be a hundred goddamn years old, my blaster just happens to discharge and singe the hairs of one unconscious guy in a manner reminiscent of a joke shot - but, as I am an avid practitioner of the nonviolent arts, this is, of course, merely an extraordinary coincidence.

Arsin?s flashbang gimmick had worked, and the troopers were easily cut down by the El-Tee?s rotary blaster and the captain?s shotgun blasts. Treyax marshaled the squad and the pressed on down the hall, stepping past the mutilated guards. Don?t look, Arsin, you don?t want to see that. Eyes front, follow the captain. As they moved down the twisting halls, Arsin glanced over at Callia. She seems to be alright. Still, I?ll have to be more careful next time. I don?t want to hurt any of our people, especially her. He glanced back up at the captain as they rounded a corner and paused at a door. Well, at least he knows where we?re going. I?d hate to be lost in here.

The captain called them to a halt and addressed Arsin. ?Alright demo boy, you're up. Try not to make the explosion too big; we want the servers intact. That goes for the rest of you; no ion or EMP weapons. Don't destroy too many of the consoles that may be in there either. Anything living and breathing you can kill as long as it?s an Imp." Arsin stepped past the captain and examined the door. Alright, let?s see? Standard door, no signs of heavy reinforcement. Standard control consol, too. Locking mechanism?... Ah, there it is. Also standard. Alright, no problem.

Arsin pulled out a strip of thermal detonator tape from his pack and carefully cut off three centimeters. Then, he placed this length up against the door and its housing, so that it rested right against the locking mechanism. Cutting another two strips of tape (six centimeters each), Arsin then placed these along the top and bottom of the door, where the seals should be. Then he slipped back to where the captain waited. ?Alright, captain, when I hit the detonator, the detonator strips should destroy the lock and seals, making the door easily operable, despite the lockdown. The problem will be that we won?t be able to close and lock it again if we need to. But it should work for our purposes: quick, effective, and fairly quiet, too. Still, we should probably step back a bit??
